Risks from contact in bjj
« on: June 11, 2017, 12:18:13 pm »
I participate in bjj and am hiv negative and understand that small cuts in the open cannot pose a threat but if i were to have a fairly bad cut from say my teeth digging into the inside of my mouth from a choke and during the choke attempt my training partner cuts his arm on my teeth and bleeds directly into my mouth how much of a risk is there for transmission i understand it is a unlikely situation however i would like to try to inform myself the best i can if something like this were to occur also heavy bleeding from say getting hit in the nose as we all know nose bleeds are generally bad i know these may be silly questions to some but they are questions i cannot seem to find the answers to thank you to all that respond

Getting hit in the nose is not a risk.

The mouth lacks the cells to infect and the mouth is so simply test yearly as you normally would.  Giving a BJ is even with open gaping active wounds not an event to panic about.

By bjj i meant brazillian jiu jitsu bleeding is a common occurrence in the sport so if i were to have a fresh abrasion from my teeth which has some bleeding and my traing partner was applying a choke and i were to cut his arm with my teeth allowing him to bleed directly into my mouth with the cut it would not be a significant risk is that correct i just dont really understand the amount of blood and contact needed to be at risk thanks again for any explianations

This was not a risk for the exact reason Jim has has already explained to you.
