Jonathan Crutchley, co-creator of the Cambridge-based Manhunt.net, stepped down as chairman of the company yesterday after a whirlwind of events that began with his maximum allowable donation to McCain.

“Politically, it was just off-base, with the whole feeling over here at Manhunt,” said site co-creator Larry Basile yesterday, pointing out McCain’s views against adoption by gay couples and same-sex marriage.

“Boy, was I embarrassed when I found out he gave $2,300,” said Basile, who asked Crutchley to step down after several patrons of the gay hookup site cancelled their subscriptions.

McCain’s camp seemed just as eager to distance themselves from the brief alliance. McCain spokesman Jeff Grappone didn’t return multiple phone calls on the subject, and Crutchley has apparently been informed that his $2,300 will be returned.

“He said, ‘If John is too good for my money, I’ll give it to (presumptive Democratic nominee) Barack (Obama),’ ” Basile said yesterday.

Please, Mr. Crutchley,  don't even try. Obama doesn't want (or need) it...just split the money up. I'm sure there are literally dozens of closeted Republican homophobes running for office who'll take it.......you can probably find them through their Manhunt accounts!.... :)

I wouldn't be surprised if Manhunt starts to fade out.

Probably not necessarily becuase of the whole Republican tie in (though that will help) but simply becuase it's past it's prime and is considered old-school already.

Technology and ways to hook up change, and I know of friends back in New York who have learned to use BrightKite in quite an interesting way.

This is very likely.  Like I mentioned, AOL used to be the means of 'meeting' other men (at least in my area), then it was gay.com.  Now, it's ManHunt.  Who knows what'll be next?  Hopefully something reasonably priced (like gay.com) but without all its pop-ups and bots sending bogus messages.  It's all evolutionary.  It'd also be nice if whatever site comes along next has a version optimized for mobile devices like iPhones, cell phones, etc.

Already happening.

That's why many are using things like Brightkite that I already mentioned.  Private twitter groups accessible by invitation only was mentioned to me by a friend in New York and someone I know in SF too.  

The ones I know who use them love that they can be find hook-ups online wherever they are at the time and without a computer.

Since Manhunt got it's start here in Cambridge, Mass some of us refer to it as Mancunt. I did manage to meet 2 purely friends, both of which no longer keep in touch since I am not doing at all that well medically, so they were not so much friends as chat buddies

Around here it's gotten very old to me at least, a new flock of 18-25 year old twinks with 8-11" cocks seem to dominate the landscape on the local manhunt lawn

Nothing takes the wind out of the sails more than a well hung guy who turns around and begs to get fucked.  Come to think of it doesn't matter if he is hung or not, I just zip up and walk out, move on or leave.  I guess there's only one word to describe me.....versatile..... :D :D ;D :D

Gotta disagree with you on that one, your not really versatile at all, if you just walked away and didn't do anything (I would have fucked him anyway) I've never been known to walk away form a piece of ass beggin for me to give it, it's due, ..........for example: me, and my otherhalf were both versatile, in the bedroom, but, to most of our Gay peers (the ones we know) this is NOT acceptable, one has to be the Top, and one has to be the bottom or ( Bear or Cub if you will) what a bunch of BULLSHIT that is  ??? why is it so important, that we need such labels at all..........if I misunderstood the zipping up part and you didn't walk away.........atta-boy, att-boy atta-boy ;D
