Hi kobra;  As some one new here too it took me a bit to figure out how to use some features of the forum.  I recommend using the "search" function on the meds you want to know more about and you will find a long list of past posts on each med.

Your bf is fortunate to have someone who cares, and I wish him well.

Kobra;  one other thing...there is quite a bit of info (including side effects, storage, dietary requirements, dosage, etc) on the package insert of any medication - google  "package insert" and the name of the med.

     Leatherman gave me that tip.

Again, best,
JM

Why do you keep posting the same question in different forums?  This is the same question you posted in the I just tested poz section.

Generic Atripla should be equivalent to the brand name Atripla.  Don't worry needlessly about side effects.

The doctor in the hospital today told us that if we go with them is gonna put him on truvada.

The hospital should not be putting him on Truvada alone.

Hiv treatment must include at least three different drugs from at least two different classes of drugs.

Atripla has three drugs - efavirenz + tenofovir + emtricitabine.

Efavirenz is also known as Sustiva or Stocrin and it is from the Non-Nucleoside Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitors (NNRTIs) class of drugs.

Tenofovir is also known as Viread. Emtricitabine is also known as Emtriva. They are both from the Nucleoside/Nucleotide Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitors (NRTIs) class of drugs.

Truvada only has tenofovir + emtricitabine. You must add one more drug from another class in order for this to be effective.

I would imagine the hospital also stocks Sustiva (efavirenz) as it is available nearly everywhere. Taking Truvada and Sustiva is the same as taking Atripla and would only mean that he will be taking two pills instead of one and that should not be a problem.

I suggest that you learn more about the drugs. You should look at the Drugs (http://www.aidsmeds.com/list.shtml) pages and you should also read the Treatments Questions (http://www.aidsmeds.com/articles/TreatmentQuestions_5032.shtml) Lesson.

I've found two websites that you may find helpful:

HIV/AIDS in Cyprus (http://www.hivincyprus.org/en)

K.Y.F.A (Kentron Ypostirixis Foreon Aids) the Support Center For the Aids Bearers (http://www.kyfahivcenter.com/)

Bug, who died and left you moderator? If you have a problem with someone's post, you need to hit the report to moderator button rather than addressing the perceived problem yourself.

Kobra was asking a similar question with additional information. I have no problem with him posting it in the Questions About Treatment forum as that is actually the more appropriate place for him to post about - wait for it - treatment questions.

Uh Oh, someone caused Ann's claws to come out :o  I cower in fear when that happens.

Ha! My claws weren't out at all - that was just a gentle swipe with claws retracted. Trust.

 Hi Ann
Thank you very much for your informations and for your search. I will call the doctor and ask about the other name of the medicine. I asked already if they made him the test for drug resistance and he said yes.So i supose it is ok.
Regardind the fact that i posted also in the other thread is because i am new here and i don t know very well how and where  :-\ .So i apologise if i caused problems.
