Hey Phil, thanks for posting the pics here of us at Rosie's. BTW Ann those weren't balloons but Chinese lanterns...LOL...I would like to believe they put them up for me but I doubt that.

Phil, it was great to meet you and your partner.  You were gracious hosts and we got around to South Beach,to Twist to drink and the Clevelander Hotel to eat and to Miami as well, and had a great time with great weather, no humidity and great temps.  And thanks for the hookup with Alan, his home near Wilton Drive had perfect location, a very nice, comfy place and a pool to boot which I used a few times.

Ray, Ed sorry we couldn't hook up but maybe next time.

Jody :) :) :)

So we already have close to 9 inches of snow in the city but it's morphed in the last hour to sleet and will switch back and forth until noon when it becomes rain. It's also VERY windy gusting to 25mph.

I'm wondering if I should go ahead and try and shovel some before it all becomes incased in ice and impossible to dislodge. I'm definitely dreading this exercise, compounded by the fact I can barely move 30 hours after my first physical therapy session (I can move, I'm just very stiff).

Well damn them -- less than an hour ago our fabulous NWS magically upped our forecast from 6-8" to 10-14" -- and a hair's width from the 14-18" section.

I was about to go out and shovel and the past hour's nasty sleet and ice pellets have now morphed into near blizzard heavy snow, with winds now gusting to 35mph.

NWS further updates me at 10:30 AM to the 14-18" zone :( there's a lull right now in the storm and part two is supposedly going to appear later on around 8PM. We've had 13" as of 10AM at the airport.

Oh, and it's also showing snow for Saturday now.

For the rest of the week it looks like cool mornings. It's still too windy to rake leaves,so I"l wait until tomorrow !  :P

I had 7 inches of snow, and then sleet and freezing rain last night.  Total sheet of ice everywhere this morning.  Now it's snowing like crazy again.  Don't see this often here in southern NC.  When I was born, in 1969, we had a terrible ice storm, and power was out for 2 weeks.  One of my friends seemed bored when I texted him pictures of the snow.  He wrote back that it was just another day for him in Pittsburgh.   ::)

We just achieved our 5th snowiest winter season on record, and only need 0.8" more to go to #4 and we'll probably do that tomorrow. Then need 0.5" for third so I can easily imagine this season being #3. If we get one more very large storm we'll get to #2.

And the snowiest #1 season I lived through four years ago -- never again.

Evidently we had enough snow accumulate at the airport that we are now officially tied with 1898-99 for third snowiest winter EVAH.

And we're due another light snow event tomorrow night so we'll definitely straight out win third. Local forecaster says 1-3" in the city, 2-5" in western suburbs. NWS says <1" in the city to the shore, 2-4" in western suburbs.

About the same here, 2-5" from 2AM until 9AM... a little breakfast shoveling I say. Will warm up enough to melt a lot of it but there will then be a quick refreeze overnight, but Thursday and Friday we may reach 60F.

Supposed to get 4-6" here.  It's almost a white out at the present moment.  We are supposed to get to 50F at the end of the week, but back in the 20's over the weekend.  This has been an unusual winter all over.

Were sending you quite the mess from the Midwest. There was a fleet of plows out all morning and you would never know it now. Downtown is basically shut down in Milwaukee and the only people out are the desperate or the desperately stupid!

Took an hour to go two miles to the store (count me as a 'stupid' one) and there are cars just parked in the middle of the roads going uphill with their flashers on everywhere. No traction at all and no one will stop and help or they'll be in the same situation. More on the way!

Who is shoveling for you Betty?

Well, supposedly the new tenant in the middle apartment.  Yesterday one of his friends was out "clearing" the sidewalks.  There was just a thin coating of snow at that time lol, and I believe the man was bored.  We'll see later this morning if he goes out again.

Snow stopped here about 6:30AM (I was up early unfortunately) so I just went out and dutifully shoveled our 3 inches of snow. At least it was powdery and not heavy/wet.

In one more month the average high will be 53F -- something to look forward to, plus of course THIS!

What better place to post a rant.  I'm so freaking angry right now I could explode.  Living in the Midwest, you prepare for Winter if you're logical.  I made sure we were set.  With the continuous freezing periods, our heat tape went bad last week.  I spent an entire day last week crawling around in freezing water, repairing water lines.

That couldn't be helped.  So, I got the water going and instructed my mother to leave the water running in the kitchen as it's the furthest point.  I explained that I didn't spend extra time in the freezing ass water to replace the heat tape as we're towards to the end of the season.

She stressed about the potential water bill increasing and shut the taps off Sunday night.  When I awoke yesterday, I took my monthly medication that dictates that I be close to a toilet for the entire day.  I had no idea that she had shut the water off until I needed to use the toilet.  Yep, the water froze again.

I had no choice but to go to my own house for the day.  I suggested she come also or spend a day or so with one of her children.  There was no way I could devote time to thawing the lines yesterday and knew the weather was warming today.  I rec'd a call early this morning from a brother who said mother had tried calling me all night and morning.

This is total BS.  I checked my recent calls and this was a lie.  The water unfroze on it's own and she said it was flooding the yard since 1:00 am.  More BS.  There was no way it could have unthawed while it was still below freezing outside.  I just finished repairing the broken line.

Now the part I'm not so proud of; I suggested it's probably time to consider a home since she no longer has the ability to know how to turn off a water valve.  I've tolerated her inability to do anything, but this is ridiculous.

Then, after getting this all done and warming myself, she came into my room and asked if there was any chance I could help her clean the porch.  Are you fucking kidding me??????  Yes, there are a few things that could be tidied, but not now!!!!  I'm preparing for surgery and am not supposed to be doing anything strenuous but have out of necessity.

Thanks for the venue to vent all this.

Tis all good this morning.  Totally resting up and trying not to think of the pending surgery and recovery.  I had to stop googling it.  :)

My mother is very passive/aggressive and manipulative in getting her way.  I had no problem sitting on my ass watching her straighten up the damn porch.  Goodness, it's still too cold outside to enjoy and I'm sure a few more weeks wouldn't make a difference.

We're also expecting another polar vortex next week and I simply explained to her, her choices.  Potentially pay a higher water bill to ensure lines don't freeze, or definitely pay a plumber.  I WILL NOT be crawling around if it happens again.

Now, back to our regularly discussed programming and weather thread.  :)

We're supposed to be near 70 tomorrow with potential severe storms followed by another winter blast.  Our community is below lake level so we always stay wet around here.  Now they're predicting massive flooding since these huge mounds of snow will suddenly melt with nowhere to go.

Being honest is not wronging others, continuing the dishonesty is.

Yes....but you have mosquitoes and Ted Cruz.....paradise it is not!

Well the Texas Icepocalypse and unusually harsh winter down here has taken care of alot of the eggs and larvae of all our creepy crawlies (although not Ted) that start popping up around this time of year. SHOULD BE A FAIRLY BUG FREE SUMMER! Thank you Jebus for blessing your favored flock!

On a side note Ive had to fire up the AC i my car over the past few days and it appears I need a freon charge :(

Greg, I'm glad things worked out.  It's 41F right now, sunny, and the roads are slushy as hell.  As with you all, there are huge piles of snow, just melting and creating a mess.  But, over the weekend it's supposed to drop back into the 20's.  We seem to have similar weather.

And Will, Texas was the first place I saw a roach.  I was 16, on the bus back from Phoenix, and we stopped at a rest stop.  When I was in the bathroom, I saw this horrible bug, and I asked the employee using the sink what it was.  She told me it was a roach, and I almost fainted.

Gluttony, pride and avarice are horrible things! You should be ashamed of yourself.  I do recall one New Year's Eve I spent in San Antonio - 1987 or some year where Madonna was pre-botox - and there was a sprinkling of snow on the interstate.  I think they called out the National Guard and started proselytizing about end times or some nonsense.

Me and bf went to his cabin for the weekend; I was nice and I let him have the pleasure of shoveling the death trap steps.

I think next time Jeff and Willie should come along and they can shovel steps ;)

Lordy Michelle, I'd have several broken bones before getting that all cleared.  ;)

@Betty, I think we're only a couple of hours away from each other and we both are subjected to the great lakes affect.  We've had horrible straight line winds today.  I saw a new privacy fence in our neighborhood that was completely knocked down.

I attempted to drive my little truck to town today and could barely keep it on the road.  I promptly went and borrowed a family member's SUV.  OH, and I should have probably told him as he initially thought it was stolen....lol

But all is good as we'll return to our horrid winter conditions by weekend.  I won't mind since I'll be indoors sipping on tea.  I'd still rather put up with this for a few months instead of the oppressive summer heat in some areas of the country.

After this arctic winter, all of our hyacinth bulbs are coming up.  We had one coming up a few weeks ago, but now all are.  The trees have buds on them.  We often see this by late February, but I thought they'd be delayed this year.  We thought this cold winter would kill all the algae in the pond, but nope.  We have bright green string algae on everything.  The water was 45 degrees today.  The fish were out today, as it got near 60 and suppose to be 70 tomorrow.

You should hope they don't bloom.  You're also expecting extended winter weather.  :)  I sure as hell hope this doesn't mean a hotter than normal summer for the region.

Here is a climate question to ponder. Choosing between Philadelphia, New York City, Boston, Atlanta and Anchorage, who has had the most snow to date so far this season?

***ALERT*** Polar Vortex 3.0 arrives Sunday night, plus possible two snow events in the NE one Monday, the other Tues-Wed, with the second one being the more significant event.

So, we've had a few nice days and the snow is melting fast. Only 6-8" to go but the deep freeze begins again tomorrow.

I shoveled the snow on the deck off of our dining room to fool my mind in the coming week that spring is around the corner. Such an easy job. (fooling my mind that is) :P

If it holds out for the entire day, it will end our 18 DAYS OF STRAIGHT RAIN in a row.

About a week ago I pulled off the topmost blanket from my bed (since we were in the 80's)leaving only a sheet and a light feather blanket,  but tonight it is going down to 33. So BACK on with the heavy top blanket!

We're not expected to get much past 33 degrees for our HIGH temp in the next 10 days. We should be in the low to mid 40's. Spring seems so distant.  :(
