Hello after a LONG time and update
« on: June 28, 2010, 10:57:25 pm »
So, haven't been on here in ages. In a way, I could look at it as a good thing in that my life is "full" and "normal" to a certain extent, so the HIV part is a minimal issue. Not so completely, but I guess enough on the back burner that its not a priority.

Last June I realized I needed to take some time off work. I had never really taken a long vacation, and needed to de-stress. I was fortunate to own an investment condo which I sold and have been living on the proceeds ever since. Lots of people told me that it wasn't the most "prudent" thing to do, but I knew that I needed to. When was I going to enjoy that time, when in my 70s (I'm almost 55) I will have to get back into the work force soon though.

So, I have spent the past year, cycling swimming and running lots, and trying to train for triathlon. I did some great rides this past year. It's not that easy to be off that much, especially when you don't have a companion to share your time with.

On the health front, things are very good. Hard to believe that its been 11 years now since I was infected and 5 years since I got on meds. Selzentry is still working great and still no side effects.

I guess the only negative is the lack of a partner/companion, but its less stressful than it has been

Thanks for reading

It's nice to hear your update and good for you that you have taken some time off.

I was wondering, what else do you take apart from Selzentry?

Were you able to keep insurance coverage after quitting your job?

Thanks, I'm on Truvada as well. Aids meds are free here in Canada. As well, since I participated in the Selzentry study, they provide the meds for free and I'm still monitored every 3 months.

You're lucky you're in Canada, it would have been hard to take time off that way in the US as far as maintaining health insurance.
