HIV Diagnoses Decline Almost 20 Percent, but Progress Is Uneven
« on: December 08, 2015, 01:29:10 am »
I guess this isn't new news.  We've already heard infections are down in almost all groups, except MSM.  There has been an increase in those 18 to 25.  I'm remembering those ages off the top of my head.  I've also read infections are up in MSM over about 45.  I may not remember the exact age ranges, but I remember that article suggested many "older" men may have condom fatigue, along with the whole mid-life crisis issue.

I suspected minority MSM are still hit hardest, but I didn't know how much.  The South is still hit hard.  I recently said in a post that infections here were still about 50,000 a year.  However, in a similar article to this, I read it is about 40,000.  Surely, PrEP is playing some role, even if small for now. In that other article I mentioned, they discussed how it wasn't used much in its first year available, but that's picking up.  I know I hear more friends discussing it and using it.  There was another recent study which said PrEP used just when sexually active greatly reduced infections.  Wish I had that to post.  Will look for it.
