15 weeks Negative but still worried!
« on: March 23, 2011, 09:49:54 am »
Hi,

I got unprotected vaginal exposure with a high risk female in start of December 2010.

After that i got tested 2 times one at 12 weeks with ELISA HIV I&II - Negative and 15 weeks with ECLIA HIV I&II Antibodies SERUM which was Non Reactive.

But i am still worried about some symptoms which i am experience like Frequent Headaches, Back ache, Eye Aches along with some weird Bumps on my back.

So I am kind of doubting the results as if anyone can give me assurance about the sensitivity of ECLIA the test which i took later at 15 weeks.

I am not getting any authentic source or any information regarding ECLIA methodologies for HIV antibody testing. My question is...

1.What is an HIV antibody test by ECLIA method?
2.How reliable is the test?
3.Is ECLIA same as ELISA?
4.If it is not then what is the difference between ECLIA and ELISA?

Last but not least .. Do I need further Testing?

I am getting really anxious and can I rely on it and move on.
Quick reply will be appreciated as my marriage is on cards next month so i don't want to infect some innocent person..  ???

You have reliably tested negative for HIV. There is no need for further testing.

Whatever is causing your symptoms has nothing to do with HIV. Discuss the problem with your doctor if the symptoms persist.

You do need to learn from this experience. There is no such thing as a "high risk person." There is high risk behavior. As far as HIV is concerned that means having unprotected anal and vaginal intercourse. As long as you consistently use condoms for those activities you will be well protected. And you need to do that everytime no matter what you think you know about the person's history or how great they look.

You scooted by safely this time but HIV is nothing to take risks with.

There is no cause for further concern on your part about HIV.

Hi Andy,

Thanks a lot for your prompt reply.

But just wondering as some websites say there can be Late sero conversion as well.
What are those circumstances?

Whether HEP C can delay it?

Thanks in advance

No, Hep C would not delay seroconversion.

We aren't responsible for what other websites maybe putting out. The only exceptions to having to test out to  6 months are where longterm intravenous drug use maybe involved, also organ transplant or treatment for cancer. Otherwise 3 months will yield an accurate negative result.

But I will tell you that if you continue to surf the web you will absolutely find lots of unreliable disinformation to feed you worst fears. All to no good purpose of course.

See your doctor if you have a concern it has nothing to do with HIV.

You're asking the wrong question. It shoudl be, this is not HIV so what is it? And that's what you have doctors for to find out.

Just because you don't have an explanation yet doesn't mean by default that your problem is HIV.

You're HIV negative. Period. End of story. We can't speculate what the problem is but we do know it's not HIV.

There's really nothing more we can do for you in this setting. Discuss the problem with your doctor(s).
