"Love In A Time Of HIV"
« on: December 02, 2009, 01:24:34 am »
Showtime will be airing Love In A Time Of HIV throughout December, a film that profiles people living with HIV in New York, South Africa and London.

The link below includes a 22-minute clip in which they follow Tender, 25-years old, who came in 4th place on South African Idols.  She's beautiful and has an amazing voice and she's had HIV for 11 years or so.

One thing that sort of broke my heart is the HIV meds she's on. When she opened the fridge, she pulled out Kaletra and Zerit, along with another one (I could'nt see the label).

Kaletra has it's issues but it's not a bad drug combo overall but Zerit is a real problem. It's so upsetting to me that it is used so widely in the developing world.

The WHO issued a recommendation recently that Zerit should be phased out. I hope it gets phased out fast and that all of those with HIV in the developing world will have other better options.

Zerit is a crap drug... it pulled all the fat from my body and then some... rearranged to make a flat stomach into a visceral fat scene... it needs to be a last choice for anyone... I'm slowly getting rid of my belly through diet and hard work... but, it will never be the same... plus I had to get facial fillers to put cheeks back... I would have NEVER taken that drug (zerit) if I knew the side effects were as such!

   Itching,

Yea I saw that too.  My wife just got off Zerit 3 months ago.  If it would have not been for the information I got here from Aidsmeds she would still be on it. :(

Nice post, Inchlingblue; glad to see that Showtime is playing this.  For those who don't have access to this channel you can watch all segments of Love In A Time of HIV online:

Tender Mavundla is indeed a fighter with a vocal gift (anyone interested in checking her stuff can find several samples of her tracks on youtube).

KuLendawo is found below

And yup, Zerit continues to be frequently used as part of first line treatment in SA, India, and other developing nations.  Sad but true.
