Title: 83 day test and negative!
Post by: skyman on January 03, 2007, 12:20:18 pm
Thank you so very much for having this forum.  I need to ask a simple question.

Is a blood test at 85 days after your last sexual contact conclusive enough to know you HIV status?

I look forward to your answers and feedback.

Thank You and GOD BLESS.

sky,

Three months is considered conclusive so yes, you are conclusively negative. In the States the official window period is thirteen weeks and in the UK and the rest of Europe it is twelve weeks. Twelve weeks is 84 days. Anything over that can be considered conclusive.

Thank you for being here.  Your forum is excellent.
Last night a women I've known for a while made advances on me, we started kissing.  One thing led to another:  heavy deep fingering, oral sex and rubbing of my bare penis on her wet vagina.  No vaginal insertion.  Just oral sex and the described events.
What is the risk of HIV transmission?  Looking for advice.  Is there a need to test for HIV?  Comments please.
Thank you.

I apologize for the thread issue.  So your answer is no to all of my questions.  No risk?  No need to get tested?
I'm just want to make sure I'm clear with your answers.
Thank you

No.  You don't need to worry about the events you describe.  Confirmed.

And (re)read the lessons on Transmission and Testing. All the basics are in there and you need to know them and follow the info about safer sex. Getting that down will spare you this kind of unncessary worry.

I have my annual physical tomorrow.  I will get tested for HIV (blood drawn).
It has been 83 days since my last insertion encounter, male to female.
Is 83 days enough time for an accurate, reliable result?  Look forward to your replies.  Just want to put my mind at ease that 83 is conclusive.
Thank You. GOD Bless.

If you are testing in the US your conclusive test should be at 13 weeks and all others are 12 weeks. If you have a negative result I would count it as conclusive.

I am testing in the U.S.  I do believe Ann gave some advice in reagrds to testing at 12 weeks in the US or the UK and it did not matter.
I just need to know that a 83 day test is conclusive.  I want to put my mind at ease.  Thank you for your quick replies.

So...Is an 83 day test in the US conclusive?

In your case it is especially conclusive as you didnt have a risk.

I did have a risk.  Unprotected penis to vagina insertive sex.  That is why I need to know if an 83 day HIV test in the US is conclusive.
I am going bonkers with worry.  Tomorrow I have the test.  It will be 83 days since my last sexual insertive encounter.  Male to female vaginal.

No it isnt.  You said you did NOT insert.  You said and i quote  "One thing led to another:  heavy deep fingering, oral sex and rubbing of my bare penis on her wet vagina.  No vaginal insertion.  Just oral sex and the described events."

This is a NO RISK event.

I see what your saying.  Not regarding the event you discussed at the top of this thread.  In the UK 12 weeks is considered conclusive and they use the same tests as we do in the states.  It is up to you to decide if you want that extra week but I would say yes it would be conclusive.

I did have an encounter prior to what the original question was on this thread.  Sorry for the confusion.
That is why I need to know if an 83 day test is conclusive.  From waht you say and 83 day test would be.
Conclusive or Non-Conclusive?  That is what i need to know.

Andy do you have any thoughts regarding my testing at 83 days?
Title: Is 83 days long enough?

Is 83 days long enough to obatin a conclusive result from a HIV blood drawn test in the U.S.?
I'm going in tomorrow for mine and would like some peace of mind.  Thank You for your replies.

What, You think the UK version of HIV is different from the North American variety? 3 months is 12 weeks or 91 days depending on how you calculate it. Of course a week isn't going to make a difference. But if you are going to come back and question your 12 week test and the negative results because you though you should have waited that extra week then by all means do everyone a favour and wait the extra week.

Your risk was considered relatively low to begin with.

Sky,

I've merged your new thread into your original thread - where you should post all your additional thoughts or questions. It helps us to help you when you keep all your additional thoughts or questions in one thread.

If you need help finding your thread when you come here, click on the "Show own posts" link under your name in the left-hand column of any forum page.

Please also read through the Welcome Thread (http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=220.0) so you can familiarize yourself with our Forum Posting Guidelines. Thank you for your cooperation.

No surprise with the negative result - you were never at risk in the first place. You are conclusively hiv negative. Make sure you wear condoms consistently and correctly and you will continue to avoid hiv infection. Make sure you read through the condom and lube links in my signature line.
