Done With PT & OT
« on: October 03, 2006, 10:16:05 am »
So last week was my last physical and occupational therapy appointment. I've been discharged from PT and my OT file will be left open with no additional appointments scheduled. That's a good thing but I sit here today sad because therapy got me out of the house and I liked my therapists. I have additional appointments available through my insurance but I've improved enough and continued therapy just can't be justified.
Now What?
My vision remains to be my biggest challenge.
There is a possible therapy for my vision but it's not covered by insurance and is several thousand dollars. So the big question now is should I empty my savings and take a 401K withdrawl to give it a try.

This is the vision therapy

Jeff congradulations on completing therapy!  That is  GOOD thing.. That means you are where they think you need to be.   Now for filling up the empty spaces.  Keep the motivation going at the gym or a brisk walk through the neighborhood...  I know its hard to detach from those who have helped you along the way.

I hope the vision goes =ly well honey..

Love

Hello Jeff,

It is a good thing that you have been discharged from OT & PT. Making progress is always good news. To get out of the house, you may want to consider doing some volunteer work if you are in the position to do so.

Make the BEST of each Day!

Congratulations Jeff-san! I'm glad you had a fine relationship with those from O/P-T. I still have to see mine but...  i feel they weren't doing enough in the beginning.  I had to stay in a hospital bed a few months before any therapies happened.  The new team is better but isn't it true one makes the  most improvements in the first 10 mths?  I wonder how things work in other countries... like, i feel in the UK, they (in my experience) teach you how to live with the disablity whereas I had treatment aboard with a different approach: how to overcome the disability...

I don't know you/r history nor your visual status but i think if it is not affecting you too badly...  i'm affected & I can't read well in one eye.

Do enjoy your new freedom & to fill in the vault, why not learn sth new, like a new language eg Italian, Java... or a sport like swimming, yoga...  or sth useless like Japanese Tea Ceremony?  Have fun.

What can I say - you all are the best! I appreciate the kind words and continued support. It's most important for my progress to continue my therapies at home. On Wednesday I did the treadmill for 30 minutes and today my goal was a mile on the treadmill and that took me 63 minutes. I listened to the Blue Man Group CD during my walk so I was pumped up.  :)
Nick - my first set of therapists weren't all that great but I was lucky to get referred to a rehab center that specialized in stroke and neurological issues. As for my vision I haven't given up hope. I have a bi-Hemianopia to my left due to PML. My vision is OK looking straight forward but have little to no peripheral vision to my left.

Eldon - good idea, I've thought about it but I'm not allowed to drive due to my vision.

Eric - you're a sweet sweet man! Wish I could go to the gym to cruise the hotties when I'm on the treadmill.  :)

Jeromy - you already know how much I love and adore you! So wanna come kidnap me for a few days? I'll send you my address.  :P    <OINK> <OINK>
