SCARY numbers

hi all,
last week I had an appt on Wednesday to get my routine labs done, well low and behold Tuesday night i started getting body aches and woke up weds with a 101 fever and feeling pretty awful.  I went ahead and went to the doctor and he said i probably had a 24/48 hour viral infection of some sort.

He went ahead and took the labs, which I, almost passed out from, because i was so weak.  The results come back today and they were HORRIBLE!!.  My CD4's dropped from almost 800 to 264 and my viral load moved up to 50 copies and also my white  blood count was outta the park.  He said i definitely had something going on that day.  I'm better now, but I'm concerned about these numbers

My doctor said it was because of what ever I had was using up my CD4's which is why they probably dropped that low.  Anyways he wants me to come back in 3 months for another set of labs. 

Can being sick cause your CD4's to drop like that?  he doesn't seem too concerned about it, but i feel like I'm starting over again.  ugggggh!!

I was negative for Syph and cholesterol still little high on a side note.

When I got swine flu years ago I lost like half of my cd4s, but when I did my next labs four months later they were back up where they originally were. There's really no reason to freak out about this, it's normal for when you are sick. In fact, it's normal for someone that isn't infected with HIV. Your doctor explained all of this clearly to you so I don't understand why you're getting so dramatic.

I'm with Miss P. on dropping the drama.  You want to learn how to read your own body, so you know when something real is happening.  If you waste all your energy, worrying about every little thing, you will have no energy left, when the shit really hits the fan.   8)

Hey Mikey,

I know it's very unnerving to have this happen, I lost half my CD4's on my last visit. Doc says my flu bouts may have caused it. But the CD4's will come back.

Hang in there buddy, not much you can do anyways right? Just dont let it get to you.

Absence of illness, your numbers aren't that bad. Listen to your doc. If he is not concerned, you shouldn't be either.

Diagnosed in  May of 2010 with teh AIDS.

PCP Pneumonia . CD4 8 . VL 500,000

TRIUMEQ - VALTREX -  FLUOXETINE - FENOFIBRATE - PRAVASTATIN - CIALIS


Numbers consistent since 12/2010 - VL has remained undetectable and CD4 is anywhere from 275-325

Sorry to hear about your illness, but glad to hear you're feeling better.  Do you feel totally better?  There are some illnesses where you feel awful, start feeling better, and then start feeling awful again.  If you start feeling bad again, I would definitely get to the doc.
