Should I get tested
« on: November 10, 2012, 11:24:19 am »
Hi

I am probably worrying for no reason, but last weekend whilst heavily intoxicated, I had sex with a female sex worker in the UK. Although intoxicated I know that a condom was used and remained in tact through out (although I know it contained seamen and had to be removed at the end, can it fail in any other way) the girl supplied the condom and provided me with a wipe at the end. This is completely out of character for me and I have never done this in the past, however following a very stressful few months I wanted to release some steam and one thing led to another.

I am now anxious beyond belief that I could have caught HIV and I guess looking for reassurance that this is not the case. I have never had any std's in the past and previous blood tests to check for infertility to showed I was negative for HIV!

Do I need to get tested? Would a 10 or 28 day test be recommended! Please help I feel sick with worry

Thanks

Thanks for the reply, I had a very similar response fro
Another site (freedom health) I guess I should let my anxiety go and trust in the experts! A couple of things, first would it be obvious if a condom failed? Do they totally fall apart, or could it get small holes? Part of my anxiety is because I have cOme down with a cold recently (7 days since exposure) and I was paranoid this was the start of something! But thank you for the reassurance

When condoms fail, they do so catastrophically.

When a condom fails it's not about itty bitty holes that the eye might miss.

No, the whole thing ends up looking like a hoop with fringe on your penis. So it's quite clear what has happened.

So realistically I have nothing to worry about? Just need to ensure I dot make the same mistake twice

The mistake you need to avoid making twice is mixing excessive drinking with casual sex. It's a very dangerous combination because it affects your ability to practice safer sex among other things. This time you have made it through safely.

Don't play risky like that again is my very strong suggestion. Now get on with your life and stop the drama.
