Polycythemia ?

I am kind of worry, I just got some the results of my tests, ( viral load and cd4 count not ready until next Monday, Dr appointmet is on Thursday), and I open the envelope with the  other results.

Everything looks perfect, dandy,BUT:

Erythrocytes : 5.53 Max should be 5.5
Hemoglobin:16.3 Max should be 16
Hematocrit : 50.6 Max should be 48

 Does this shows I might have Polycytemia?

I noticed when I started truvada , I used to get very reddish, , and my legs also were red.
Since that the redness has diminished about 80%.

My Dr prescribed me in my last Dr's visit ,a lot of test since I have been filling tired, more depress, , lethargic.

All the tests:
Cholesterol, Alkaline phosphatase , Glucose, Prostate, prostate antigen  , LCD, Urea, cretinine, , were perfect.!

Also I went to see my My Psychiatry , he wanted to increase my dosage of my AD.( Remeron 30 to Remeron 45 )
I refuse until I had the results of this new batch of tests.

Why could that be those higher numbers, with the red cells ? medication?
Some bone narrow related problem?

Problem with the lungs?
I thought , everything looked fine in the tests until I saw the outlined dots, showing result out of the normal.
Please I need advice.

 Nov 16 2010: V l 937 CD4 188,10%
CD8T Suppresors 997 CD8%55.8
August 15th 2011 Vl UD, less than 40.
CD4:543(26.7%) CD8:887 (43.6 %) Ratio .61
Jan 14th,2012 ,less than 40.
CD4:478 (24.4%) CD8: 962 (49.1%) Ratio.50
June 2012 CD4 599, CD8 856 UD
Oct 2013 CD 702, CD 843 UD Ratio:.87

Hold on there, Roy.

Yes, your major blood indices are elevated -- but only slightly so. It's only when blood levels are repeatedly above a certain threshold -- for example, hematocrit levels consistently above 52 percent -- that a more detailed look at red blood cells mass and plasma volume is considered necessary to explore the possibility of polycythemia. And if, in fact, that's what you're dealing with, a good ole' fashioned bloodletting and attention to whatever might be causing it should do the trick.

I'm sure you're doc will tell you that your numbers are mildly elevated to the point of being borderline normal. It could be that you were somewhat stressed or dehydrated during your last blood drawn, which can contribute to acute, minor spikes in these blood levels. Follow up with your doc... but this is nothing to panic over.

I had never heard of this.  Is Polycythemia Vera the same thing as just Polycythemia?  I found this at the Mayo Clinic.

Sorry, I'm a little late here, but I was away for a few days.

First -- the "Max" that you cite for each test is the upper limit of the Reference Range.  Unfortunately, many labs and docs still misuse the phrase "normal range" -- these aren't "normal" in the sense that you must fall within them or you have some malady.  They are based on a population (should be the lab's local population, but that rarely holds true anymore -- and reflect what 95% of healthy individuals fall in.

One question I have for you is, Do you live at any sort of elevation??  The higher you are from sea level, the more RBC's (and HGB, HCT).  RBC's are particularly sensitive to individual differnces for a whole host of "normal" reasons.

Bottomline, I wouldn't sweat these results -- I wouldn't even have them repeated, but it won't hurt to do so.  I say this from experience -- I worked in a Hematology lab for many years and have done thousands and thousands of CBCs.  Of course, you should do whatever your doctor says, but really -- don't lose any sleep over these results.

Just to make a follow up to this post , I will say that the DR told me that is such tiny increase , that I should not pay any attention to it.

He told me I was having a good nourishment and my body was assimilating better, and I would find an equilibrium point later on.
