For those with ADAP experience
« on: May 19, 2016, 12:24:16 pm »
Good Morning!

So things are finally starting to role - my next DR apt is the 7th and I should be getting my RX then and I just was assigned a Case Manager with OK's Ryan White Program and I go to meet with her on the 9th.

She sent me a lengthy list of documents that I will need to bring in and my question is how does the documentation affect everything? I feel like I'm in a weird place because I left my previous employer at the end of 2015 and my income this year will be about 35% less than last with a much higher Tax burden due to being self-employed (dad-gum Social Security taxes lol.)

Any ideas on what I should expect? Just a bit freaked out at the possibility of trying to pay for medications out of pocket because there's no way I can afford that not as the sole income in the house.

If you are in a real bind with med costs, you can get your Doctor to Prescribe the Medicine and fly here to Thailand.  Here Brand Name Atripla costs about $120 per month.  Red Cross in Bangkok will provide you with a a six month supply based on you doctors script.   Read the website for details.   You could get an additional six months of medicine at a local hopital.  I use Pattaya Memorial where I get a 3 month supply of Edurant and generic Truvada for about $400 including Dr visit.  Bring all your lab tests with you.

I checked a round trip flight BKK to Palm Springs.  It was $811 round trip.

Just saying.

Good luck.

I had planned to move to the USA last year, visited but after one month of trying to figure out ADAP ect, hopped back on a plane and continue to live in Thailand.

Here is the link to the medicines page.
Note that at a hospital like Bangkok St. Louis (non profit Catholic) the medicine will be marked up approx.  50%.   At Bumrungrad or Bangkok Hospital perhaps 100-200% markup.

Will customs allow you to bring pharmacuticals purchased in Thailand into the US?

Yes.  Get the Doctor to give you a letter stating that the meds are for you.

Officially it might be 90 day supply.  But in my experience they  have never questioned my meds with prescription labels on the bottles.  I bring them in my carry-on.  So they do get X-rayed at customs.  Never been a problem.
