Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Negative at 6 Weeks - Thanks God!

Long story short.  I was having a lot of unprotected vaginal sex for a while with a woman who I thought I could trust but turned out to be a massive liar, the likes of which I've never encountered.  I had the following symptoms, but at varied points, in weeks 1-6: sore throat, muscle aches, night sweats and rash.  I never had this stuff before (except for sore throat).  I just tested negative at 6 weeks since our last sex.  Per Andy, I am regarding this as conclusive.  Thanks god.  The clinic says 84% seroconvert at this point so I will be back at week 13.

Ann, I hear your message.  Unprotected sex means risk of STI.  It's just not worth it.  I get it.  I'm looking at sex differently.  I've had a massive education in the past month which was the most stressful of my life.

Time to get on with life now.

Glad to hear you've gotten the message. Be sure to get that negative result confirmed at 13 weeks.

Another thing: please don't post in forums like I Just Tested Positive. Participation in those forums is limited to HIV positive people only.

I don't know where you got the idea that if you had unprotected intercourse a negative at 6 weeks would be conclusive. That's not something I would be telling anyone.

As Matty has advised you, re-test at 13 weeks for a conclusive result. It is true that a negative at 6 weeks is likely to remain negative at 13.

Also, you are only allowed to be posting in this forum and none in the HIV+ section. I would remove the threads you posted there but it would make the rest of the answers members have posted unintelligible. Please don't do it again. You are not at this point HIV+ and in my opinion likely to remain that way.
 
No less important is for you to learn from this experience. No matter what you think you know about someone's status or how great they look or anything else. Until such time as you maybe in a securely monogamous relationship in which both partners reliably test negative together, until such a time you need to be wearing a condom everytime you have vaginal or anal intercourse. No exceptions.

Good luck with your test at 13 weeks.

Oh - and one more point.  I have spoken with the free HIV counselors in my state and they are very professional - and free.  Also, I looked into meds and I would have been able to get them for free as well, from Atripla to Truvada to whatever else is out there.  The income cut off limit for the free drugs was rather high.  I wonder if it is like this in all states.  I was surprised at the good care one could receive, starting with the free STD clinics that I visited.  Not that I would hope anyone should need these services!

That's good news that you have tested negative. I expect that to continue with your 13 week test.

What I recall having said is that I don't remember anyone testing positive from a broken condom incident.

Hey Everyone!

Good news - I am negative at 10 weeks.  As for the chick that I thought I got it from, I wonder if she is positive, and it is possible I will never know.  I also went to the dermatologist to check out my rash.  It was not HIV related.

Excellent. I consider your negative at 13 weeks to be a slam dunk, but it's a good thing to re-test at 13 anyway.

Sure I'll get tested again.  It's free, why not.  I get varied reports on when testing can be regarded as conclusive.  The senior attending dermatologist I spoke to at the hospital, and the resident, said most people seroconvert within 2-3 weeks after exposure and both regarded my 10 week test as conclusive.  The social worker who administered the test said 3 months is necessary.  I guess you can't be too careful.  Anyways, what I can say with certainty is that every medical professional I encountered during this HIV scare treated me with the utmost respect and professionalism, and I can't say that is the case with other areas of my life.

It is true that the average time to seroconverion is 22 days. But the CDC still recommends testing at 13 weeks and we stick with that as the measure.

Retested per your advice at 14 weeks: negative.  My rash was part pityriasis rosea, part tinea versicolor.

That's good if not surprising news. Get on with your life and remember about always using condoms for intercourse. No exceptions.
