Worried Please
« on: September 01, 2006, 09:05:05 am »
Hi I am 33 years male from India, I had unprotected sex with a sex worker (only once) 8 years back and since then i am not active in sex until i got married in 2003. Since 2003 i am having sex only with my wife. So far i have no  complications with my health and even with my wife's health. I never thought about HIV. Recently when i was reading the articles about HIV i noticed that HIV may show its effect even after 10 years. Now i am really worried about my wife more than my health.

Please can someone tell me the risk for what i had 8 years back. 2 years back i had STD test for VDRL and some other STD (not HIV) for some requirements all are negative. But still i am worried for my wife.

You've been carrying around this concern for way too long. There's a simple solution and I expect the result will be a happy one.

You had unprotected intercourse so you do need to get tested. HIV is not an easy virus to transmit. It is significantly harder to accomplish from female to male. Given what you have described the odds are overwhelmingly in your favor against transmission having occured. But HIV is never something to guess about.

So do yourself a favor and get tested. You can do it anytime now and get a reliable result. I expect you will test negative and then you will be rid of this worry.

Good luck with your test result and keep us posted.

Good. Getting tested is the smartest thing you can do for yourself.

Good luck with your test. The odds are significantly in your favor.

Sorry if i am posting in the wrong area or forum, this is just to seek the opinions.

recently i read an article on calculating absolute CD4 count

Example

WBC is 7600
LYM (Lymphocytes) is 39.5%

SO TOTAL LYM COUNT (TLC) IS WBC * LYM %

7600 * 39.5% = 3002

ABSOLUTE CD4 COUNT = TOTAL LYM COUNT * LYM %

3002 * 39.5% = 1186 (approximately)

Are the above calculations are correct?

Thanks and Regards

I suspect you are trying to back into an answer about your HIV status by playing with these numbers.

You cannot do that. The ONLY way you can get a reliable answer about your HIV status is by having an HIV test. Everything else is guesswork and HIV is not something to guess about.

Get tested! In all likelihood you are going to test negative but only the test will answer that for sure.
