There's a town hall meeting in Columbus, OH this evening. Thought some of you might enjoy streaming it live. Will OH be the next state to recognize same sex marriage? Should be interesting based on the mostly supportive comments I've read on their FB page. It starts at 7:00. Sorry for the short notice

I just saw your thread. So, anything interesting happen? I did not see where it could be viewed, if you didn't catch it live. I was confused by the comments, because they were all discussing gun control.

Things are already moving along in Rhode Island, Delaware, Illinois and Minnesota in terms of legislation. I figure chances are as dim for Ohio as they are for where I live. I live in a nominally blue state for national elections, but a Republican-leaning one for state government because slacker liberals don't show up to vote in off years.

I'm afraid if the Supremes fail to make a decision that's broad and covers the entire country we are going to be able to get and stay married in only blue states.

You can see which states allow the gays to get married and which don't. You can also get an idea on which ones are the next in line and those that don't have a chance. It starts to look like the Obama/Romney electoral map.
So, when I get married in my state (WA) and we decide to move I am pretty much limited to blue states. It's still like being half a citizen, not like I'm going to choose to give up my marriage so I can move to Texas or Arizona.
Good for Ohio for starting the process and talking about it. You have come a long way since 2004.

10 years ago, I'd have said it'd never be possible in Ohio. Especially after seeing the polling and election results the last time it was on the ballot. I have noticed a huge swing towards allowing these rights. Somewhere during the debate, they showed that 51% polled believe in marriage equality. Only 39% disapproved. But more surprising to me, 54% believe we should have the right. That tells me that some who don't approve feel we should be afforded the right.
I try not to make disrespectful comments regarding religion, but the religious right zealots did more to define why we needs these protections than show why we shouldn't.
Most people recognize the tired and redundant comments like; "what's next, marrying your horse" and "marry children" or "marrying several wives". The one panelist simply explained that is because of those kind of sentiments that gay couples should be afforded the same opportunities.
Adam and "Steve" were mentioned many times by this same right. They couldn't accept that Christian Biblical scripture should never be used as a legal means.

While it's good that the issue polls better, that doesn't mean that it's the #1 or even top 5 issues when someone goes into a voting booth. Or that the respondent even is voting outside of a 4 year presidential cycle. I don't think we should be deceiving ourselves on how some of this is going to play out in most states.

America isn't the only country with idiots. Jeremy Irons gave an interview, where he says marriage equality could cause fathers to marry sons, for tax purposes. And, Mr. Irons is concerned about redefining marriage. Then, he goes on to say that loving anyone is great. Loving dogs is great.
Colbert plays the clips and gives his take. Iron's son looks hot in the pic. I post this, because this view about men marrying brothers or sons, dogs, goats, etc is more common than we may think.

Well in the good old days, a classy gentleman (like Liberace) simply adopted his young lover. Didn't need to marry him. :o 8)
