Title: Anyone Watch Law and Order: LA tonight?
Post by: emeraldize on June 27, 2011, 11:01:28 pm
I normally like this show and typically the research is pretty good. But tonight they just wrote into the script that the owner of a porn movie company had been tipped off to one of his actresses being poz, had her sex toys collected and the fluids on them tested, learned she was poz and hired a hit team to off her.

The plot failed, she ran away and survived.  Later, the cops had her tested and they learned the results before she did.

Well, now I want to know how to reach the writers and just say, ah come on, you're misinforming your audiences not once but twice. And these shows are created in the HIV-savvy land of LA.

Oh now the defense attorney is saying she would have infected other porn actors in one-time sex scenes.

And the prosecuting attorney is saying she had AIDS instead of being HIV positive. Okay, it's over and I'm done grousing. A show I respected used the disease to fit their plot instead of fitting the plot around our oh-so-clever virus.

Hmmm. This sounds like a CSI plot. :)

Doesn't it? I'm disappointed. Lazy writing.

I've never much cared for Law & order: LA.  I used to watch the original Law & Order, and thought the writing was pretty good.  I also like Law & Order SVU, though I admit the shows are so intense, I can't sit in front of the t.v. when they have a marathon for very long.

You should write them 'Em.

Probably one of the reasons Law and Order LA hasn't been renewed for the new season - thus, the reason they are showing new episodes still --- as they won't be airing in the fall....

Yeah, what Phil said...I was just about to post that it's been cancelled.

I didn't know there was a Law and Order LA.  They've gone too far.  There's a Law and Order UK (or London).  It sucks.

I also watched it last night and thought it was poorly written. They also used the term HIV or AIDS randomly, seemingly for no good reason.

I am surprised that their fact checker wasn't a little more thorough.  Just because you pay for HIV testing, does not mean you get the results, before the patient, which was the entire premise of the crime by the director.  His knowing one of his stars was poz, but did not tell her and allowed her to keep shooting, so he would not lose money.  If I was a casual watcher, I would be concerned that if I tested for HIV, through my company health plan, that my boss may very well find out my status.  Major fail all the way around.

Hey BT -- thanks for the vote of writing confidence -- I may have the ability to write a letter to the show's writers (which I'm planning to do), but I don't think I'm a good plot developer. Oh how I wish---there's money to be made there---even writing poorly apparently!. I've always liked SVU, too -- yes, intense.

Cliff -- There's a Law and Order: UK ? Righto! Well, we've got The Office--what's fair is fair and imitation is the highest form of flattery. Law & Order: UK (2009–present)[15][16]
Starring Bradley Walsh as DS Ronnie Brooks, Jamie Bamber as DS Matt Devlin, Harriet Walter as DI Natalie Chandler, Ben Daniels as James Steel, Freema Agyeman as Alesha Phillips and Bill Paterson as George Castle.
This show follows the format of the original Law & Order show but adapts it to the new setting of London, England, with detectives from the Metropolitan Police CID and the Crown Prosecution Service attempting to secure conviction.

Phil - I didn't know it wasn't being renewed. I don't follow that side of TV much and then am clueless when something slips off into the mist. Perhaps it's better then I can't be disappointed. I mostly watch comedy--but it's counterbalanced by law-related shows. Oh yes---and I like Cash Cab!!! Insomnia tv.

Joe - Good point about the possibility for raising concern about testing via a company health plan!! That could so easily be misperceived---especially now with more emphasis on opt-out routine hiv testing coming on legislatively. I'm going to write a letter -- even if it only helps prevent another blunder -- worth doing.
