Bloodwork and Virtual Visits

Hi All,

Hope everyone is doing well and if you are lucky enough to have some nice weather your way I hope you have been able to enjoy it the way you want too.

Now onto my story.  I had my virtual visit with my specialist just to do over some basics and to get orders for bloodwork and to get a refill on my Rx.  They would have refilled anyways but I wanted to get my labs done. Mostly my CD4 as I'm just pre-occupied with that.

Some of the results are already in and now the one that worries me is my Bilirubin level.  Not that it is out of range yet but it has been trending higher the past few years and just at the max normal range of 1.0.



My other livers tests are well within normal range.  I'm sure they will just say they will wait and test again in 6 months but I do the "what ifs" on if it is indicating another issue. 

Just another thing to look at but if their is a problem at least we will be able to look into it quickly.  That is the one benefit of being positive.  We know a crap ton about our bodies and catch issues early.

I had similar issue with my liver now too, my AST/ALT reading is considered high, and my doctor puts me in liver ultrasound +hep b/c testing.

Did your doctor give you any explanation what could possibly cause the high bilirubin?

Well I am one of those bad patients that look at my results before I hear back from them (That's the bad part of the online account).  I don't expect to hear from them until I get my CD4 results back in a week or so. 

I'm sure that I won't be able to get additional testing until it is truly out of range.  I do know that I got the vaccine (TWINRIX) for Hep A and B but I have no immunity for Hep B so they are looking at that closer. 

Just all the fun and see what they say in a few weeks.

At least the CD4 is back to where I thought it should be, as I didn't believe the November numbers. 

Last, is it bad that it made me think of "Life Support" from Rent?  (Hopefully that didn't age me too much)

Glad to hear that your cd4 is what you hoped it to be. I will be honest I don't have much input regarding the other figures, but I am glad you are that feeling good!

I wouldn’t worry about it if it’s in the normal range. Even if it’s mildly high.
If it’s greater than 3 and associated with acute severe abdominal pain or other elevated liver blood work then it’s a cause for worry.
I’ve had more dances with jaundice than I care to. Both involving either a flattened or blocked bile duct. In both cases I had severe abdominal pain, bilirubin was higher than 7, and other liver blood work (AST/ALT) was way out of wack too.

Sometimes I just need reminded that it's OK.  Even my Specialist came back and message that she is pleased with all of my labs but one is still waiting to come back. I can just from time to time blow things out of proportion.

Yes, the musical. Doesn't help that sometimes those songs come on when I'm at the gym.  I'm glad I have my headphones in as I could only imagine what people would think.

hopefully you're joking or else you're like my poor Larry. I don't know how he ended gay believing that "Burlesque" is a musical. At least it's got Cher. So now, much to his chagrin, I found out that DirecTV has a Musical channel and he comes home most days to hear me singing along. At least now he's interested in the  "legally blonde" musical. ROFLMAO
