Title: prep pill stability and risk of contagion
Post by: Ksb1 on April 22, 2024, 02:39:42 am
Hi

I was on prep for 30 days, then I continued taking truvada from another bottle I had but I realized that this bottle was one that I had opened 7 months ago and that I saved to have a reserve, and I confused it with the new bottle , so I have two questions

  1. Was I protected those days that I took Truvada that had been opened more than 7 months ago? Because I have read that after uncovering the bottle it must be consumed within the next 6 weeks, I don't know if it still offers effectiveness after this time. It should be noted that the tablets were inside the original bottle the entire time, at room temperature (maximum-33 maximum), although without desiccant because I took it out when opening the bottle a few months ago. I open again the bottle a couple of times last month to Count how many pills it’s have, but nothing more.

  2. The day I started the old pills by mistake, I received oral sex from two different people, one HIV positive and the other unknown, I only received the oral, but between them they were having oral sex and fisting, and fuck before they suck me, so i don't know if in their mouth was pre cum, blood, or something when they did oral sex in me. I wonder if the fact that they fucke and had oral sex before giving me oral sex increase the risk of getting infected by receiving oral sex? Or if that risk would continue to be zero?

3. when I knew that one was HIV positive I started taking tivicay but have the same problem that the truvada, was one bottle that I had opened since 7 months ago, this also can still work?

ps: both truvada and dolutegravir had days where they were in my backpack and were exposed to the sun for a couple of hours, but the pills always fell out of their packaging

  thank you so much

Hiya.

I presume the meds are still in date, anyhow, what you posted here about the meds isn't an issue. You don't need Tivicay (DTG) and, you had no HIV risk from receiving a blowjob.

Relax and move on with your life.

Here's what you need to know to reduce your HIV risks:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse correctly and consistently, with no exceptions. Consider talking to your healthcare provider about PrEP as an additional layer of protection against HIV

Keep in mind that some sexual practices described as safe in terms of acquiring HIV still pose a risk for other easier-acquired STIs. So please do get tested at least yearly for STIs, including but not limited to HIV, and more frequently if condomless intercourse occurs.

Also, note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms; testing is the only way to know.

Kind regards

Jim
