Has anyone ever tested negative at three months and positive at 6 months?

Y is it that every single time I go to the doctor and see a different doctor I get a different window period? One doctor told me it could take up to 10 years. The one today told me to test at 3 months 6 months and a year. Which one is it???

Many doctors don't keep themselves up-to-date/don't have a freaking clue when it comes to hiv. It's either arrogance or ignorance or just plain stupidity. Who knows.

Ten years? Seriously? That's one doctor I would never go back to because that level of ignorance is astounding and I wouldn't trust a word he said about anything else health related. A doctor in 2012 who is still spluttering about a ten year hiv window period should be struck off and not permitted to practice medicine. He should go be a janitor somewhere. Are you getting the idea that doctors like him piss me off? Well, you'd be right. They do.

The window period has been three months for years now. In fact, the vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by six weeks, with the average time to seroconversion being only 22 days. A six week negative is highly unlikely to change, but must be confirmed at the three month point.

Why are you fretting about hiv window periods anyway? Unless you've been having unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse or have been sharing drug injecting equipment, then you haven't been at risk.

Yes I did have unprotected sex in February. Tested negative with a third generation Elisa at 87 days. But I'm still afraid because I'm having neuropathy issues and very stubborn periodontal disease. I've began to have acne and so many other things. I tested for others like lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, hepatitis and the doctors can't find anything wrong with my blood. I have an appt to see a neurologist next month. I'm just scared of the unknown. Ive been reading about some of the diseases like xmrv, htlv etc and these are scary because there is barely any research or medication for these diseases. Feeling like  stuck in the middle right now. Plan to get tested again for HIV next month which will make 6 months so well see. I also got tested for diabetes because my symptoms sounds so similar to that. But the more I test and rule out things the more afraid I get. Hoping for the best!

You have already ruled hiv out as well. An 87 day negative is absolutely conclusive.

You do NOT have hiv.

Keep working with you doctor to find out what is going on. Whatever that may be, it is NOT hiv. You are conclusively hiv negative. YOU DO NOT HAVE HIV.
