Anxiety through the roof. Symptoms.

Hello, I’m 39m and received oral from another male (status unknown) without a condom. We also rubbed/stroked penises together. He had leaked quite a bit of precum as well. And we also kissed (deep) quite a bit. There was no penetration.

3 days later developed slight sore throat. Then by day 5 developed small rash on my wrist. My skin also felt hot but had no fever. Still slight sore throat. Now today is day 8 and feel like a small sore if forming on the side of my tongue. Tip of my tongue also feels strange, like I burned it.

As you can imagine, when I google...HIV comes up. And my anxiety is through the roof and have trouble sleeping. I also wake up feeling hot (but not sweating). I tested for HIV at day 4, but I assume this is way too early. It came back negative.

Am I overreacting to this? And when should I test for HIV next? I plan on testing multiple times but I want to make sure i test at the correct times. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

What you posted was no HIV risk. Your symptoms are not HIV specific and have nothing to do with HIV from this encounter as you had no exposure and it would be far too soon.

I hope you feel better soon but instead of googling go see your doctor and treat whatever is making you sick. Use condoms for any intercourse and test out of routine at least yearly for HIV & STI's.

Here's what you need to know to avoid HIV infection:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, every time, no exceptions. Consider talking to your health care provider about taking PrEP going forward as an additional layer of HIV protection.

Keep in mind that some sexual practices which may be described as ‘safe’ in terms of HIV transmission might still pose a risk for transmission of other STI's, so please do get fully tested regularly and at least yearly for all STI's including but not limited to HIV and test more frequently if unprotected intercourse occurs

Also, note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms and the only way of knowing is by testing.
