Found expired bottle of Genvoya

Recently cleaned off my shelves and found an unopened expired bottle of Genvoya. It expired May 2018. I definitely don’t want to chance it and take the medication, but I am really really upset with myself for letting this expensive of a bottle go to waste. Does anybody know if Gilead or any pharmacies would take this back and replace it with a new bottle or some sort of compensation? Not that I paid out-of-pocket for it, I do have insurance, but it’s the principle. TIA!

I am by no means a pharmacist or anything, but if that bottle has been kept dry and in relatively stable temperatures I wouldn't hesitate to use it.  I personally have meds much older than that that I use and have not had any issue.


If you really don't want to use them you could ask your doctor if they want them.  My doctor offered to take some older meds which I believe would be used for patients that were caught in an emergency without meds.  Your local ASO would likely take them too.

Maybe this incident will remind you ( and us all ) to be more aware next time that there are people somewhere in this world who die because they simply do not have access for this medication. Don't be harsh on yourself, we are normal human beings and for sure things sometimes slip between our fingers.
