My ID doctor is probably tired of me harping on a situation that I can't let go. I had the same ID doctor from 1991 until 2008. Looking back, I realize how much of an idiot he was. I have to drive an hour to my new doctor, but he is well worth it.
In 1995, I was suffering a severe illness. I lost 20 pounds in one month (down to 120) and was so sick I couldn't even hold down water. I awoke one morning and actually was feeling better and suddenly Bill looked at me with panic in his eyes. I was bright orange! He rushed me to the hospital where I was admitted and diagnosed with Hep B. I was suffering complete organ shut down; liver, pancreas etc... I was in the hospital for almost a month.
As a nurse, I absolutely knew there was something wrong with the diagnosis. I absolutely did not participate in any of the activities that would spread this virus. Well, I went on to recover although I had constant doctor visits to have all my organ functions tested. It caused quite a strain on our personal relationship because Bill also worked in the medical field and was skeptical of how I contracted it.
So, for 15 years, I believe I had this virus. 2 years ago my new doctor rechecked for the virus and indicated I never had it and even gave me the 3 course vaccination. Sorry this is so long, but has anybody ever had a similar experience? It almost drives me crazy trying to figure this out.

I'm not sure why you would blame absolutely all of this on your ID doctor, though maybe partially -- you initially went to the hospital where, I assume, you had different doctors give you this initial diagnosis correct? Someone somewhere back at that point must have run something that gave you a positive result for this, as I can't see someone just making something like that up out of thin air.
Aside from that I'm not familiar enough with this to know what the likelihood of a false positive is to know at what point your ID doctor should have rechecked for this, though currently my doctor rechecks for adequate response to my vaccination as people with HIV often have a less adequate response to this vaccine. Other than that I don't think in the early 90's I was vaccinated off the bat. Maybe my memory is faulty but I think I was first vaccinated some years later -- like in 1996 for the first time.

Hey Wolfter,
I was exposed to Hep B many years ago, probably from one too many trips to the baths.
Doesn't matter really. But I never became ill and my body managed to fend it off, leaving me only with immunity to Hep B.
It would suck to go that many years and then find out the initial diagnosis was wrong.
I have seen people lose their immunity to hep vaccines, but not be told they have it and then discover they don't.
On the bright side, at least you don't have to worry about treating the Hep B as well as HIV.
