good lord.  Are you talking about the real mccoy or the tv show? I know you have the acting down and of course it wouldn't surprise me one bit that you know a thing or two about handcuffs so you're certainly qualified for either one.

You don't do anything half baked, do you?

Good luck!

Hey Jeromy,

I asked to borrow some cuff links once, he misunderstood and presented hand cuffs.  I borrowed them anyway.  Sometimes one just can't get too many accessories.

NYPD huh? If they don't accept your application, the SFPD is actively seeking HIV+, gay applicants.  You could come for AMG and apply for work at the same time.  Have the best day

Hey I wish you all the best Jeromy on the exam. Never hurts to have a friend on the side of the law that can fix tickets.  :D Or at least when I see NYPD beating the shit out of some poor old slob I can look and see if it's you.  :D

Have you lived in NYC previously?  Why would you select that?  While it's much less dangerous than 15 years ago I'd still not want to be a cop there.  I assume you realize how difficult it is to live on that type of salary in the most expensive city in the US.  I'd think about that fact very carefully.

But whatever -- good luck.

Well shit. Matty the Damned is conflicted.

On the one hand, he loves Jeromy very much, but on the other hand he knows that all (without exception) coppers are evil. They are the enemy.

This isn't just limp wristed left-wing bitching either. Every experience I've had with coppers has not just been bad but terrible. Once a person becomes a copper they stop being a person and become a uniform.

Shit.

Besides the somewhat crappy salary, the hours often suck.  At least the retirement is good.  However, we're not quite ready for you to leave NC, unless you move back to be close to your family!

Go for it...

The starting recruitment salary sounds obscenely low (and it is) but it goes up to $32,000 and change after 6 months and after 5 years you make around $60,000.

Plus there is a shitload of overtime everyone grabs where you get hourly time and a half calculated off of your base salary. I know a bunch of people very close to me that work for the NYPD -- some with kids and houses and all that added crap -- and they are doing just fine.

Plus the benefits are really great and you retire after 20 years with full pension (half of your ending salary also calculated with average overtime tax free -- which is pretty fucking good) and medical for life. My cousin just retired at 42 and bought a kick ass house in Florida and does some security consulting to pass the time.

And you get to carry your gun with you when you are off duty which, in New York, can be an added bonus and hand out PBA cards to your friends so when they get pulled over they can get slip it pass the officers eye and get out of nasty speeding tickets. ;)

If you have a passion for it, go for it.

Maybe some of 'those' movies... you know, with the cops and the bad guys.  The ones where they all end up in a tangled pile of men doing all kinds of (fun) things to each other.   ;)

I just know I did something that warrants a cavity search!   ;D

One of my neighbors is humpy local cop in Internal Affairs, and his house is swarming with hot SWAT and regular uniformed officers every weekend.  One can only imagine when there are 10 police vehicles on the block, yet there is no one outside..... perhaps I need to install a web cam in his unfinished basement?

Good Luck Jeromy, if its what you really want to do.

They are progressive imho. They even have an association for gay cops. It's called GOAL (Gay Officers Action League) and maybe they know about issues with HIV. I remember this one cop from GOAL wanted to um, get to know me. Nothing ever happened. I thought he was way too into donuts. But he was nice

Edited to add: It wasn't this guy tho! -> http://www.goalny.org/pres.html

Just for the heck of it, I wanted to see if they have a website and they do. That president is a supervisor in the hate crimes unit. Progressive indeed

Well...I have been forbidden to go thru with it...the significant other said I am not allowed to put my  body into danger...all I want, all I ever wanted to was be a part of Charlie's team...I am just as angelic as those three!! ;D

hey B...

don't worry, the "forbidden" part wasn't serious...he just wants me to be safe and sound, and would rather I not become a cop.

I am doing well, and who knows, they may find out about my film career...

Jeromy, if this is what you want to go for, you should consider at least going as far as you can in the app. process. You'd make one hell of a cute officer!  ;D

I also have been led to believe the NYC cops get an extra bonus each year that isn't stated in the pay package ( the guy who told me just retired a year ago, and got $15k/yr as a bonus, around xmas holiday time) .

Whatever you do, I wish you the best!

And I'm also wondering if your film career would have any impact at all, so long as you don't perform in your official police uniform~~??

Hey Jeromy-
I wanted to be a Michigan state trooper once.  I went to the recruitement post and passed the visual, hearing and written exams. The guy in charge told me I would go to Detroit for 2-5 years after I was finished in the academy.  That stopped me immediately from pursuing it, mostly because I was a single mother.  If you really want to do it, hey, go for it.  Good luck.
