Hi All,
I am sure these question have been answered but it would help me alot if you could answer them one more time so I can quit stressing and get on with my life. My story is as follows: In December 2010 I was dating a girl and we decided to become sexually active, prior to that it had been three years since my last sexual encounter. On Dec 4 She gave me unprotected oral and we had protected vaginal sex. This issue I had is the condem felt like it was slipping off(not all men are created equal) but it never came off entirely. On another occasion, Dec 13 we had a mutaul masterbation session in which there may have been time when my penis was rubbed against her vagina also she performed oral sex  on me. She said she is not HIV+ but I am sill nervous. Were any of these experiences risky at all? My concern stems from  the fact that in March 3 2011 I came down with abdominal pain  and groin pain with diarrhea and  which lasted about a month. And toward the end of March my lymph nodes became sore in my neck and are still a bit tender. In addition I have been sore in my joints.  Could this be ARS? I was tested for HIV on April 5th 2011, 15 weeks after my last sexual encounter and the result was negative. My doctor said that is enough testing but im just scared. Is this test definitive? Can I let this thing go and move on with my life and quit worring about this or should I get tested again. I have been very scared and nervous and am trying to move on. Any advice would be greatly appriciated.

No, you have not had a risk for hiv infection.

Getting a blowjob is not a risk.

Protected intercourse is just that - protected. There have been long-term studies of couples where one is positive and one is negative. In the couples who used condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, but no barrier for oral activities, not one of the negative partners became infected with hiv. Not one.

Mutual masturbation is not a risk. Rubbing genital together without penetration is called frottage and frottage is not a risk for hiv infection.

You do not need any further testing over any of this. It's no surprise you tested negative as you never had a risk. You are conclusively hiv negative.

Here's what you need to know in order to remain hiv negative:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED FURTHER TESTING AT THIS TIME, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Thanks so much for your response Ann. I feel better about my situation. I did have two more questions if you have the time. Why is it that some some sites recommend testing at six months? Is it possible to test negative at 15 weeks and then test positive later from the same exposure? Just curious is all, I'm trying to put my overactive imagination to rest. Thanks again for the help. I have no idea why some websites continue to publish out-dated information. The window period for conclusive hiv testing has been three months for quite a few years now.

You're not going to test positive after having a fifteen week negative - particularly since YOU HAD NO RISK TO BEGIN WITH. Even if you did have a risk - which you did NOT - your fifteen week negative would not change. It's conclusive. You do not have hiv.
