Expat Health Insurance covering HIV meds

Hello everyone!

How you doing today? I have a question for you: I am looking for an expat health insurance that would cover my HIV meds (in case of emergency).

My company has sent me to Mexico and although the local health systems provides medications and doctors to everybody (this is what I am using now) at the moment the Mexican government is changing the inventory system and that is resulting in shortage of any sort of medication in the entire country.

As my company would be paying for my health insurance, I was wondering if you could help me out in suggesting one that would cover my HIV meds (currently on Truvada and Tivicay) in case there really will be a shortage of medications.

As far as I know there is no such insurance for expats. I did my research and the reality is cruel about it.

There are companies online that you can get generic versions of some of the drugs.

No private insurance for expats will cover preexisting hiv.   If it is a group company policy then it depends on the contract.

That said it is my understanding that if you currently have Blue Cross Insurance (and maybe blue Sheild) the GeoBlue Global expat insurance will accept you without underwriting.  But it is a costly program. 

Probably better to see if you can get the meds sent to you from a mail order pharmacy in India.    Start at  iwantprepnow website.  (It also  had treatment meds) for a list of companies they have worked with.  Be sure to order the meds at least a month before you run out.

Sorry for the late reply, I have been travelling quite a lot for work these days and will for the next couple of months.

Thank you so much for you replies, I'll make sure I will check them out.

They do sound like good options as well. My only question is, are we sure meds bought online will pass through customs? I'm currently living in Mexico and I'll a little concerned about it.

In any case, I'll check that out and will let you know.
