Seen in a few posts where folks were wondering when they could expect to see rebate checks...

Here's the schedule. Having direct deposit really makes this quicker.

Direct-deposit payment If the last two digits of your Social Security number are: Your payment should be sent to your account by:
00-20 - May 2

21-75 - May 9

76-99 - May 16

Paper check If the last two digits of your Social Security number are: Your tax rebate check should be in the mail by:

00-09 - May 16

10-18 - May 23

19-25 - May 30

26-38 - June 6

39-51 - June 13

52-63 - June 20

64-75 - June 27

76-87 - July 4

88-99 - July 11

I think we are all entitled to the rebate but do have to file in order to get it. Like Betty, I will believe it when I get it in the mail

Mine (if it materializes) will buy some new tires for my car....or pay down my credit card balances. Some of it may indeed be used for gas -- I paid $3.37 for regular yesterday in Birmingham.

Holy Crap

I nearly missed the filing deadline. Since I have no real or percieved deadlines, I often forget the dates. But today, my computer clock was 1 hour off the rest of my clocks and when I checked "time and date", lo and behold... today is the deadline with hours counting down. The IRS wanted bank routing numbers on the 1040A and since I seldom write checks, I had to find the check book. I found 3 Ben Franklins in my check book which may be the Stimulus Payment OR I, Sonomabeach may simply be a flake who hides money and forgets

Actually my instructions state for the stimulus package you have until 10/15 to file 1040A form. I would assume that the "normal" tax date of 4/15 was for someone to get their rebate as early as possible.

According to the e-mail I received from Hot House Entertainment I should use the cheque to stimulate myself and the economy.

Of course I'm Canadian and won't be getting a cheque, as our economy hasn't headed into the shitter. So I guess I'll just have to continue stimulating myself.

Confused, I have direct deposite for my social security disability check, but My daughter said, mine would not go automatically to my direct deposite account because i filled no taxes, do to low income. She said my check would come in the mail. Is this true??

Netta, you should have filed a 1040A out and sent it in. On that form, it has something where you can put your routing number for your bank account. If you did that, it will come direct deposit. But either way, if you don't work, you should still fill out that form and get it to the IRS. If you don't, you won't get anything.

My daughter did my 1040 for me, but she did not put in my route number for my checking, thinking that was only for someone filing regular taxes.
so I guess its to late. I could have gotten mine earlier since i'm an "04" last 2 numbers of social. I'll just have to wait on mailman and that will be a trip cause I don't want nobody in the hood stealing it. lol

I never report 'extra' income. For example, voc. rehab paid me $16/month for gas for going back and forth to school. I never reported that to any other government agencies. If I had, I'm sure I would've lost my food stamps.

Here's a note from the IRS FAQ (course it would be better to get it in writing from Social Security, but this at least sounds hopefiul)

Q. Will receiving an economic stimulus payment in any way affect my eligibility for other federal benefits, such as temporary assistance for needy families, food stamps or Social Security? Will it count as income for purposes of my Social Security benefits?

A: No. The stimulus payments will not have any effect on eligibility for federal benefits.

We had the same question, Alan. Will the stimulus $$, which will go to pay down our debt and refund us for what we had to pay the government this year, count against the kids' SSI. I talked to our case worker yesterday and she said we may be asked to "prove" what we spent the money on. If we spend it and it doesn't sit in our bank account, then it won't count against us. We may be different, though, because we only have to turn in our income statement (copies of our taxes) once a year and not monthly (pay stubs) because we are self-employed. You may want to check with your caseworker just to be sure.

Whenever I get "reviewed" by my welfare caseworker, she only asks for a bank statement. I never report my student loans, nor will I be reporting this stimulus payment. But, things are different from state to state; I realize that. I just hate even asking my caseworker "should I report x, y, z," etc. because to me it seems like it opens the door for cuts.

Didn't Bush say that the stimulus will not affect your welfare? With this food shortage going on, the last thing I need is for them to be cutting my stamps. And another thing....If the stimulus payments are starting next week with the direct deposits when should I be expecting mine? Before all this, I was due on May 9, so should I start looking in my acct on Monday?

Yahoo had a story that said the IRS discovered that it was depositing checks into the wrong bank accounts and that the $300 /child monies were forgotten in many cases. They also reported that the checks are running about 2wks behind schedule. So, if you've gotten your's, congrats! If not, and it's more than 2wks late, they are telling people to contact the IRS (good luck with that!) and see if it was posted. If it was and you never got it, then some lucky bloke is being stimulated by your money. And, of course, they offer NO advice about how to get your money back. Yee-stinkin'-ha!

Still, my poor deceased Mom got a refund from her tax return that we filed for her after her death and I got $350.00 out of that.

The IRS website and their 800 number is a joke. I have tried their online search for my stimulus check as well as the 800 number and both tell me that there is no information available. Now I mailed out the paperwork the same time as my rent rebate. My rent rebate was finished on May 6th though I can't get that til July.

Now they say on the website wait 2 weeks from the original date, for me that would be the 23rd which is next Thursday. I doubt it will be there then, funny they know how to take your money, not a surprise they fuck it up when it is owed to you.

No, Joel, we didn't. I don't know which one of us kids would get the rebate if we did file on behalf of my dad.

I just knew, that because Bush thought up this whole thing, there would be a bunch of shit that happens. He only gave the IRS 90 days to put this into action. For those of you who got the stimulus, all I can say is lucky fuckers. Since I had to refile, I don't even know if I'll get one.

Received my rebate check last week ,paid some bills off. Now this week broke again and my lawn mower decides to die off. Trying to decide if i want to spend money to repair it, or buy a new model? It was new in 2002 and it is a Toro. My life seems so normal compared to many of the persons I read about in these forums. I mean even though I have had aids for six years, I work everyday. I own a home, I have insurance, I buy a new car every three years and I pay over $ 5000.00 in out of pocket medical expenses every year. Like most americans I am in debt up to my eyeballs ! But what the hell if I die before I pay off the debt , what are they going to get? I believe that if I can maintain decent health for another six years , I might pay down another $10,000 or $20,000 . Life is what you make of it ! I try to make the most of it each day and do all I can to prove to people that hiv/aids does not mean my life is over. I wish all of you eternal good health and happiness!!

I finally had a live conversation today (Saturday) with a person from the IRS.

I filed on time and am on the list for direct deposit payment on May 16th (yesterday)

The Internal Revenue Service may have my Stimulus Payment processed within the next few weeks

I read on the IRS site that what I should have done when I refiled, was to file an amended return. Instead I refiled with a 1040 I got when I received the stimulus package info in the mail. So, I printed the 1040X (amended) form out. It's all horribly confusing and of course, since April 15 has come and gone, there are no more "free" tax services anywhere. I filled it out the best I could. I might just give up on this whole fucking thing. It's a nightmare for me.

oh Betty. I feel for you. I gave up on trying to interpret all those forms and went to Mr Don to do my taxes. I had his 'fee' taken out of the return. I was to get my return direct deposited on the 9th and when it did not arrive, I called and like sonomabeach could not get through and finally found on the website that having the fee taken out for some reason negated the direct deposit option

and I would have to wait for a paper check in June.. $:-\$ Like you, I give up..I'll believe it when I see it..

My Dear Queen,

I called 1. 800. 829. 1954 and got a living person after a 3 minute wait. They wanted SS#, Filing Status and Income. Yesterday, the call would not go through and since... I have free long distance in the U.S., I called every number on the IRS site for California and no office in California was taking calls yesterday.

You remember when Medicare Part D was dumped on us? It was dumped on us before anyone knew if it was going to work. We had Project Inform come from San Francisco 4 times for conference as the legislation was being changed while the facilitator was enroute to the meetings.

I think it was Betty who said the stimulus program was dumped on the IRS with 90 day notice. I think it is believed IF a person has filed, that person will receive Stimulus within the next few months.

If it has been filed with routing and account numbers, it will be direct deposited and after the tax year docs are filed, no one can change their mind. I did find out mine was in progress but it was on the list (as per the IRS website) for payment on the 16th.

My thoughts are we could get our payment in the next few months and it may come via check or direct deposit. Have the best day

The recorded message for all the listed offices on the IRS who are not taking calls say, "appointments are not necessary, if you have any questions, visit your local field office."

If you are having trouble with completing the tax forms, there's a free tax assistance service available for folks earning under about $40,000 per year. Here's a description from the IRS website

"Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA)
The VITA Program offers free tax help to low- to moderate-income (generally, $40,000 and below) people who cannot prepare their own tax returns. Certified volunteers sponsored by various organizations receive training to help prepare basic tax returns in communities across the country. VITA sites are generally located at community and neighborhood centers, libraries, schools, shopping malls, and other convenient locations. Most locations also offer free electronic filing. To locate the nearest VITA site, call 1-800-829-1040"

The 800 line might know if there are still some sites open after tax season.

There's also an elderly tax assistance program run by AARP, but I suspect you are too young (Not sure the same applies to me

since I read about them in my AARP mag )

I am still in stimulus limbo. I haven't gotten a check or a Dear Jane letter saying that I am not getting one. Mine was due on May 9th but then after talking to someone at their 800 number, I was told those of us on disability will be the last ones to get them. Strange though, a few people I know on disability has gotten theirs. Now my date has changed to the first or second week of June. I'm guessing I'll get my rebate check before I get my stimulus check.

Our's still hasn't come and we've passed the 2-week "delay" schedule. Oh, well. We're self-employed and paid our mandatory self-employment taxes even though, after deductions, we showed a negative income. The government is quick to receive, but slow to give. $:-\$ Honestly, I hadn't even thought about it again until I saw this thread.

Funny you say that about them being slow to give out money when we're suppose to get it but quick to snatch it when you owe it. I have been saying that for the longest time. I am past their 2 week delay too and the last thing I was told was the first or second week of June. I'll probably be back here whining next week too.
