A few members have contacted me regarding this years AMG CD Compilation. This project was spearheaded by Bailey (aka DingoBoi) last year and was immensely successfull. Bailey is currently on hiatus and unable to be reached regarding his availability to complete this task this year. I'm hoping when Bailey returns to the forums he will once again be able to undertake this project. Either way, this project is going to continue. It meant too much to those who attended last year!
This is your chance to to suggest a song that means something special to you; A song that empowers you and helps you get through the day. The genre can be rock, pop, country, dance, etc. Anything as long as it has a meaning to you!
Due to the time and cost involved, please limit your contribution to one song choice each. If you do suggest multiple songs, your first choice will be used on the compilation. Multiple choices may be used if time permits.
Rules are simple. Include the full name of the song and artist. This will help us easily locate your choice. If you have a copy of the song you'd like to contribute on your PC and would like to email it to me, please pm me for my email address. Most importantly, include a brief description of how your song choice touches you.
In an effort to have these completed to hand out at our gathering, please submit your song choice as soon as possible.

Hi Dennis
Thanks for bringing this to our attention, our 2006 CD was a big hit thanks to Bailey it would be ashame if we didn't have one again this year, I hope Bailey will come in when he is ready and give us his advise on this.
I would like to have (if possible)
"You'll never walk alone" by Gerry and the Pacemakers...some of you young ones may not of heard of him but it's a great song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aSrVJl8TF8
It is normally played at the end of an evening and would be a great song to finish up with on our "Meet and Greet" night.
Hugs

hehehehe...
Just had to let you know that I read this thread after working over in Am I - and my first reading of the thead title had me thinking it was...
AMG '07 OCD Complication.
::)
-
LOL @ Ann!
I have also been wondering if there would be a CD this year. Bailey did an excellent job on last years CD. I still play it all the time.
The song that I would like to submit is... Through the Rain by Mariah Carey.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=CENuYcNUdkw
I burned this song for Rodney last year when he was sick and sent it to him.
-
I submitted this last year, but I was too late for a couple of reasons...
"One of the Living" by Tina Turner.
If you replace the theme of "Post-Apocalyptic Survivors" with "People with HIV/AIDS," and think of "they" as "governmental agencies who are standing in the way of our health and happiness," I think you'll understand why I think this song is appropriate. And everyone loves Tina, right?
I only have this song on vinyl right now, but I just ordered the CD from Overstock and should have it in a couple of weeks.
I'm attaching the video link only so you can appreciate Conan the Saxophone Player.

Mr. AMG Guy....
With a tip of the hat to you, Blixer and Bosque, I would love to include Global DJ's version of "If You're Going to San Francisco."
It's a great song, from the past, with a great techno twist to it and it's about where we're all going to meet come September. Past. Present. and Future. Sounds pretty inclusive if you ask me.

For lovers & friends long gone.
Des'ree - I'm Kissing you
Pride can stand a thousand trials
The strong will never fall
But watching stars without you
My soul cries
Heaving heart is full of pain
Oooh, oooh, the aching
'Cause I'm kissing you, oooh
I'm kissing you, oooh
Touch me deep, pure and true
Give to me forever
'Cause I'm kissing you, oooh
I'm kissing you, oooh
Where are you now
Where are you now
'Cause I'm kissing you
I'm kissing you, oooh

My suggestion is The Village People's "San Francisco" from their Go West album. Thom and I have seen them many times over the years. In fact Thom 'personally' knows Scar and the late Glenn. They are an icon. No collection would be complete without them. Thanks, Ric

bump...in hopes of getting at least one song submission from each attendee!

The Supremes: You Can't Hurry Love
I've always loved the Supremes from the time when they first came on the music scene. I never paid much attention to the words, but the catchy, upbeat melodies and great blending of voices just made me feel good. Listening to this music today brings back memories of a time when life was full of possibilities and promise.

Hey! That brings back good memories for me too. The last memory I have of the Supremes' "You Can't Hurry Love" is when my partner improvised a brown paper bag for a wig, dark cat-eyes sunglasses, balloons under his t-shirt and off he went with mic (carrot) in hand! I laughed till I almost pee'd in my pants. :D

TITLE: One More Time
ARTIST: Daft Punk
Reason: The beat makes me feel like dancing. The words, for me, encapsulate what I've come away from the two previous AMGs feeling. Living with HIV isn't a party, surviving AIDS could never be described as a "celebration", but for a few days, I get to be with others who have the same struggles I do. Our lives, histories, and personal challenges are broad and diverse, yet when we gather, our bond is simple.
So come September, "we don't stop, you can't stop", we're coming together, "one more time", and I'll "feel so free".
RAB :D
(I've got the longer version on my computer, but suspect the shorter "radio" version will fit the CD better. Besides I don't have a clue how to e-mail it. ::))
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_CfUs4VmDg (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_CfUs4VmDg) (Ignore the corny video here.)

Keep the songs coming! I've been able to acquire all but one of the suggestions thus far.
-
Dennis,
Going "old school", but Holiday by Madonna always made me smile and want to dance. The words tell you to leave your cares behind, give yourself a break and enjoy life. That is why I am coming to AMG. Yes, I will still deal with HIV/AIDS, but it is a time to celebrate life - at least for me.
My three cents..

Come on everyone! Keep those song submissions coming. With over over 40 people confirmed to attend I've only gotten about 12 song submissions.

"I left my Heart in San Francisco" by Tony Bennett
"What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong
Thanks Dennis!!!

Peter Gabriel/Kate Bush Don't Give Up from the Peter Garbiel album SO.

Song choice: Waterfalls
By: Lisa Lopez
...because the song is a tribute to her friend that died of AIDS.
If I could have two, I would also like to have "In the Arms of the Angels" by Sarah McLachlan(or is it McLaughlin?) I can get tearful everytime the ASPCA commercials come on with this song playing. It just has very special meaning to me.
-
"CHANGES" By David Bowie
I loved this song before I had HIV. But the words have even more meaning now. It is a song I have loved for it's simple honesty and I think it is true for all of us.
Changes. Turn and face the Strange.
Not sure why, but it lifts my spirits every time I hear it. If I ever get down, this song always lifts me out of my funk. The live version is the best but hard to find. I will do dome digging. I will also include a b&W picture I took of David bowie in 1978 at Madison Square Garden, when I was a press photographer for the entertainment section of a weekly newspaper on Long Island, New York. Those were the days!

For Jonathan. :-*
These Are The Days Of Our Lives - Queen.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=axMB8cyR0rE
-
My suggestion is "Crazy" by Seal. Because we're never gonna survive, unless we get a little--Crazy.
Plus it's great mood music ;)
My runners-up:
"Uncle John's Band" by the Greatful Dead. A very close second, because it's the Dead.
"These are the Days" by 10,000 Maniacs, cuz it's good to live in the day.
"Love Shack" by the B-52's, cuz it makes me feel good.
"She Bop" by Cyndi Lauper, cuz it makes me feel real good.
"Wicked Game" by Chris Isaak, because he's from SF, and dead sexy. His voice, I mean.
And last, but actually closer to second, are both/either "These Dreams" and/or "Dreamboat Annie" by Heart. I have live cuts that are great. My first rock concert was Heart. I am dating myself, of course.
I'm posting the runners-up just in case anyone wants to adopt one, or in case you end up with dead space on the CD. And also just to let you know how I spent my day! Haven't listened to most of these in a while, so I had a great time. BTW, everything posted by everyone above sounds great, too.
Can't wait to see you all! 8)

Please have all song submissions in by the end of this week.
Thanks

It has taken me forever to decide, but if it is not too late.... my request is for "My Heaven" from Mary Chapin Carpenter's "Between Here and Now" disc. It is a lovely vision of what heaven looks like...and we are all in it! Let me know if you have trouble locating it... I may be able to email it (if I can figure out how.)
I am arriving in SF late Sat. morning (I know, I am the last to get there.) I hope I will be able to hook up with whatever will have already started that morning.

Dennis how is the CD coming along?
