consultation on possible risk
« on: January 18, 2012, 01:56:50 pm »
On December 15, 2011 I had a relationship with a sexosevidora which I performed oral sex without a condom, she rubbed her vagina on my penis without a condom and vaginal sex with condom do, I know the health status of this woman, after two weeks notice a swelling in the neck to this day not a lump removed is at least 1 / 2 "in size with no pain, I have had thrush in the throat, tonsils area that lasted me a week. Since two weeks ago and until today I have had headaches for no reason, fortunately I have a fever, because of the distress that I caused these symptoms, I do a quick test of saliva which was negative to me two weeks of contact, I also make a VDRL serology and pharyngeal fortis which also gave negative or nonreactive.

 My questions are:
 1. There is a risk of contracting HIV, according to my case, that possibility is there?
 2. I've had the symptoms may be associated with a primary infection by the virus?
 3. It takes 30 days after exposure, I can carry out tests to give me some clue? What kind of test?
 4. my doctor asked me a test for HIV1 and HIV2, this test is reliable with my time (30 days)?
 5. no risk of contracting other diseases? which?

 I appreciate your responses!

You never had risk of contracting HIV from oral sex. It is possible to contract STDs from oral sex.

JC,

I'll answer your questions, but I'm going to lock this thread when I'm finished. You started out in the Spanish Am I Infected forum and that is where you should stay. We ask that members keep ALL their questions or comments in one thread and one thread only.

1. No. You did not have a risk for hiv infection. Cunnilingus (giving oral to a woman) is not a risk. Rubbing genitals together without penetration (called frottage) is not a risk. Protected intercourse is not a risk. There have been three long-term studies of couples where one is positive and one is negative. In the couples who used condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, but no barrier for oral activities, not one of the negative partners became infected with hiv. Not one.

2. Neither symptoms nor the lack of symptoms will ever tell you a single thing about your hiv status - ONLY testing will.

3. The vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by six weeks, with the average time to seroconversion being only 22 days. A six week negative must be confirmed at the three month point, but is highly unlikely to change. As you did NOT have a risk, a test at any time will be conclusive for you.

4. A rapid test is reliable. As I said above, a test at any time will be conclusive for you as you did NOT have a risk.

5. You would be wise to test for all the other, MUCH more easily transmitted infections. You can do this now. You should be having a FULL sexual health check up at least once a year anyway.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED TO TEST SPECIFICALLY OVER YOUR CONCERNS FROM DECEMBER, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Please return to your thread in the Spanish forum. Thank you for your cooperation.
