Just a simple question and I'm not talking about (for example)... Green Tea Supplements I'm merely asking who likes a cuppa of tea or perhaps afternoon tea etc..

My favorites include Earl Grey straight, Darjeeling one of my Du joir teas, Irish Breakfast Tea or English Breakfast has a nice kick, and Green Tea or Oolong Tea brewed they are pretty good as well.

So what are your favorites? One thing I really like is not only does tea create a perfect balance in my day it also has many health benefits as well.

Hi mike

I'm mainly a coffeee drinker but I do have one cup of tea at supper time.

Alpine Tea..ingredients are..senna leaf, fennel seed, ginger root, marchmallow lead and a few others ican't remember..and it's 100% pure herbs, it can be taken as is or you can add honey or lemon to it...I take it as is and it has a really nice flavor.

silver needle & song yang white tea is ok too,if it's made properly

I love a good cup of tea in the morning -- usually after I get to work, or on weekend it is usually after I've had breakfast. Just plain old black tea, with milk and a bit of sugar.

Of course, on hot days here in Texas, I can quaff gallons of iced tea. Being from West Texas, that means *non-sweet* tea, as opposed to those East Texans and Southerners who seem to enjoy sweet (*extremely* sweet) iced tea.

I love any kind of flavored tea with sugar substitute, but mostly drink coffee (black please).
I can't stand the taste of regular Lipton tea.

I love that special brew of Japanese rice (green) tea called genmaicha. Give it a try if you can find it.

I do like coffee but i have toned down on it as my tolerance went way thru the roof however I think I like coffee for the taste it seeems when i come down off of coffee my energy goes right to the bottom. But yeah I do enjoy coffee just as much.

I find that tea gives me a sorta well being healthy feeling

Oh yes, very British, should be made up thinly sliced, cut into triangles, presented on your best china plate and served up only when the Vicar calls in for a afternoon cuppa. it's a well know fact in the upper class circles that Vicars only eat cucumber sandwiches...

It only happens in Bridget Jones Movies...theme parties have moved on a bit since then (where have you been Philly)..but if you ever find yourself hosting one I suggest you serve those cucumber sandwiches...watching Vicars going through cucumber withdrawals is not a pretty sight..

BTW..If this ever happens at a Tarts and Vicars party you are attending..there is a good home treatment you can use...just whip off the dog collar and stick a whiskey in his hand, he will stop screaming as soon as the whiskey has been swallowed....trust me it works every time.

Sounds like a riot. Is it preferable to have her Royal Majesty be in attendance for these special events? Perhaps her Royal Majesty could address her subjects, and if the King himself is accompaning her royal majesty he might fancy a glass of the finest scotch availible vice the poor mans tonic better known as whiskey.

. . . and they grow the best tea. Nice, clean refreshing stuff with very little tannin. Not that ghastly muck from China that tastes like paint stripper or vile rot from India which is not dissimilar to three day old dishwater strained through a football player's sock.

If I where to have a cup of tea I would choose Earl Grey with cream and sugar, sometimes without the cream.

I'm a North Texan so I usually polish off a gallon or near a gallon of sweet iced tea a day. About a cup of sugar per gallon of tea.

That is 3.8 liters or 8 pints a day.

Hey I'm new to this tea thing, and who got my a$$ hooked on it miss Betty?

She gave me a Pomegranate Raspberry green tea that is addictive as hell. to make matters worse i cant find it here, i had to go back to Indy~anner to get some more.

She did give me a Chamomile tea that helps with the side effects of the meds i have in the morning, and helps me sleep ( i don't sleep good anymore)

I've always liked the smell of coffee. I've never liked the taste.
I wont even eat Tiramisu even though it looks delicious I cant stand the coffee taste.

Its an Italian cake. A lot of people go gaga over it.

Basically it is sponge cakes soaked in coffee and rum and layered with a custard made out of mascarpone, beaten egg white and sugar.
Then topped with cocoa powder. Served chilled.

Well to be more clear as I said earlier I do like coffee and prefer good roasts and the like If you seen my kitchen I have a Starbucks French press and a top of the line coffee maker and some would conclude that I am the above average coffee drinker. Truth be told though I have cut back on my coffee drinking to the weekends as I have found that drinking morning cup of coffee every morning no longer helps me anymore in fact it makes me more tired not too mention I have the aftertaste left in my mouth at the end of the day similar to drinking soda. However the recent touted antioxidant benefits of coffee keeps me coming for the morning cup on the weekends.

Having said all of that and keeping with the topic at hand about drinking tea I find that I drink tea not for the caffeine content or waking up like a coffee effect but tea gives me a longer awakeness perhaps with the natural herbs or content of other things in the tea leaves not too mention I think tea drinking is good for those who are HIV+, now comparing tea to coffee is simply when I drink Coffee I drink it for the taste or occasional pick me-up but like I said Coffee doesn't give me a healthy or well being feeling per say.

As we all know Coffee is a universal thing even more so than tea is and Western Civilization such as ours "America" probably can't or don't appreciate Tea as much as those in say European or Asian countries.

I think Tea drinking is more of a personal thing it's more of an acquired taste. Just because you don't drink it is your choice understandably so, and just because your HIV+ doesn't mean you should or shouldn't drink Tea but I think it's better to drink Tea than take supplements as we can over do it with pills and vitamins and not necessarily get the benefits we hope for and sometimes do more damage than good.

I hope this all makes sense.

It's a cultural thing.

In Australia, NZ (and the UK) most of us start drinking tea from an early age. I remember as a kid coffee was nasty powdered stuff, but tea was always drawn fresh in a pot.

Nothing is as invigorating first thing as good strong tea.

I believe that in continental Europe things are different and coffee is the norm. Same with the States, I'm told.

oddly enough I can not drink tea in the morning. It makes me nauseous.

I went to breakfast with some girlfriends before school 20 + years ago and drank a few cups and on the way to school puked in the poor girls back seat. I haven't been able to drink tea in the morning since.

In Britain and some Commonwealth countries, the order in which the milk and the tea enter the cup is often considered an indicator of social class. Persons of working class background are supposedly more likely to add the milk first and pour the tea in afterwards, whereas persons of middle and upper class backgrounds are more likely to pour the tea in first and then add milk. I drink all kinds of Tea... from your basic southern sweet tea... to calendula, yarrow, burdock, stinging nettle, yerba mate' and lots of coffee... for a sweetner from sweet-n-low, refined sugar, splenda, and stevia... plus too many cokes... hot tea for a hot afternoon... cold ice tea year round.... I am a fan of tea, much more so than coffee. I think I drink coffee in the morning just because everyone else did when I was growing up.

I was given a very nice English Breakfast tea. It is Ceylon black tea, packed in Sri Lanka and very delish with just a bit of sugar or honey.

My ex gave me some wonderful Georgian tea that also was scrumptious. (Georgian as in Russian, not the southern state.)

I also like Earl Grey and Irish Breakfast. Tetley makes one called British Blend which is tolerable as an iced tea.

I am not crazy about tea bags, but in the U.S., they are almost all you can get much of the time. I would prefer my tea loose, just like my men!

Yogi Egyptian Licorice is my fav. I've got one of those bodum teapots with the unbreakable outside. It's an extravagence I can't really afford, but it gets used!

Tea seems to me a more subtle pleasure than coffee, appropriate for more advanced tastes.

I've started mixing chamomile tea with my regular iced tea. There is a honey vanilla chamomile made by Celestial that is tasty. I had some at a party and thought that the host had melted a butterscotch into the tea.

Someone recently told me that Chamomile is a relative of ragweed. If you have strong allergies that you shouldnt drink it.....?

I've had a lot of problems with my intestines and chamomile is touted as a natural remedy for stomach ailments.
I actually noticed a difference. I don't vomit hardly ever. Nausea is rare. I've had lower fevers in the evenings or none at all. I still have abdominal pain but I have had that for years now.

It could be a coincidence but it might not be. I donno...

You where right about the ragweed thing. I googled it. I guess I'm not allergic.

The following are also known to soothe an upset stomach;

*Peppermint
Ginger (best use freshly cut slices)

Avoid alcohol, cigarettes, aspirin and ibuprofen, since they can exacerbate nausea.

* I have a spray of pure food grade Peppermint oil when I dun feel too well tummy wise. I just spray a pump into my mouth and it helps calms my wanting to throw up or feeling below the weather. For tea, try to look for Peppermint tea bags that has strong essence and the tea brewed will be likewise. Some brands of Peppermint teabags dun even have any minty aroma to it and that's not good.

Red korean ginseng does not come under the tea 'umbrella' it is more herbal.

When taking meds ; it is best not to use that as it is supposed to bring alot of 'fire' into the systems , your body becomes too 'yang'.

Hello water duck. I stopped using meds 22 months ago and added Red Korean ginseng tea to my regime about 2 months ago.I agree that red korean ginseng might not be beneficial while on meds but the results so far have been beneficial for my cd4 count.

Hello philly267.It is very possible that red korean ginseng is driving my viral load up as well.I am finally able to work again and quality of life has improved dramatically since i subsided meds.While on meds and viral load count dropping to undectable i was unable to work due to the huge amount of side effects.For now i will maintain my course of therapy.

Ugh--I guess no place like THIS place for a bit-o-disclosure eh? Before reading this thread I had just brewed up a fresh pot of Harney & Sons Jasmine. I mixed it with some dried jasmine flowers and ginger I keep for the afternoon stomach upset and heartburn I sometimes get.

and...the cup...

I also grow the following herbs to mix with the green, black and white teas I drink: chamomile, chocolate mint, anise hyssop, rue, lemon verbena, basil, sage, lemon balm and peppermint.

Teas and herbal teas seem to settle my stomach and help with fevers. Also just a part of my complementary therapy. Something about growing things, the process of steeping them, the relaxing enjoyment of drinking them--either nice and hot or iced..that just makes me feel better.

I'm not saying, I was trying to get you to clarify. You see once you've been around here awhile you'll see we get all types of quacks offering cures and such with herbs and supplements, reiki, macrobiotics, smoke and mirrors, you name it. Of course none of it supported with scientific proof. You see thousands of folks looking for the quick fix read the Nutrition forum, so if you think about it, nothing you post really is just about you. If fact now that you've declared yourself a trained herbalist, don't be surprised if you get pm's asking about your therapy.

I'm not trying to start anything, but as you can see from one poster who has suspended HAART it's important to always give this caveat, "check with your doctor before trying any alternative treatment."

So brew you a cuppa and calm down you don't want your card pulled over a cat fight.

HA! Guess it's a Siclian thing. Ya know--NO tomatoes like your own homegrown tomatoes.

Let me just say I've been on HAART since 97 (went the first 5 years on monotherapy then nothing) and I know its saved my life. I'm a true believer. In '96 I started an adherence support program and worked with others to create educational videos for patients, doctors and case managers in hopes of increasing adherence to HAART.

When the topic of tea came up, I just thought it an interesting discussion point regarding nutrition and wellness that I thought I'd toss my 2 cents worth at. I really hope no one mistook what I wrote for some sort of earth-child-damn-the-western-medicine approach.

I do however believe in 'balance' in my life. For me (and ONLY speaking for me here) that means balance in my physical, emotional, mental and spiritual areas. That's how a guy like me can through cabers on the weekend, build a dug-out wood kiln, garden, cook for spouse and family and spend time in the studio with other musicians whenever I get the chance.

As for other 'complementary treatment' I use: mmmm, nothing better than a nice puntanesca over angel hair, a chunk of warm bread dripping with butter and garlic and a bottle of a nice dusty red. ;-) Food IS love!!!!!!!

I think once I came to grips with being HIV positive, I saw an opportunity to let all the 'parts' of me out--stop carring about what others thought and do the things I always wanted to do.

Nope, puttanesca was safe because I've never heard the word. I had to Google it.

In Sicilian family's its not rare at all to have a 'family sauce'...hmm and my family's is a puntanesca--guess that says SO much about us, eh?

Family secret recipe: melt the anchovies and capers together with garlic, onions and just a few pieces of hot cappacola (Thin sliced spiced Italian ham) and red pepper flakes...stir in fresh crushed tomatoes (HAVE to crush them in your hand over the pan) stir it all together, set on simmer and let it all 'sweat' together

Add a fresh sprig of oregano and 2 basil leaves and serve over oiled and spiced (garlic/salt/pepper) angelhair past ...

Damn--I just made myself hungry!

Wood kiln is a kiln dug into the ground and the fuel used is wood. Slightly lower temperatures than gas fired raku. Think of 'warm finish' on pottery. The opposite of a glass-looking or metallic looking glaze...maybe a more 'organic' look to a piece fired this way.

As for sweat lodges--sure! I've been able to attend a few and liked them. What I got out of them--and hope to again , is a great feeling of exhilaration and a chance to have a 'quiet mind'. I've never been sure what 'new age' actually is so I can't comment on if what I do or think fits that definition.

I guess from what I've heard others attribute new age to some of it may fit, some not.

I gotta say I am a TEA Freak!! I have about 30 types in my cupboard and 3 tea pots and cups. I find the whole thing relaxing and helps my day. I used to drink a ton of coffee. This past year my stomach is bad, caffeine is too much so I switched to tea full time. I love White Tea, I have a custom blend I make of white tea/roses its very good and soothing and also a rare white tea called osmanthos silver needle it is wonderful. My birthday was last week and my family got me a new tea pot and 10 new types.

I drink all types, but I really like green tea with a bit of honey and lemon juice. Once in a while, I'll throw in a shot of Bacardi. I used to be a big coffee drinker, but since I had a stroke, I stopped drinking caffinated beverages all together. Btw, My neurologist at the Cleveland Clinic thinks the stroke is HIV related, most likely from the meds. But there's been more reports and instances of poz peeps in their 30's that have been poz for several years and are having strokes. Fortunately, mine was relatively minor.

I drink green tea with my meals. (Used to drink root beer) Have even graduated to adding lemon.(sweetened with sweet-n-low)

Sometimes I get the wrong box off the shelf (all those Celestial flavors to choose from)
Once got what must have been a sampler box as it had all kinds of flavors. Didn't even know untilit was brewed.

They all tasted good.

I just started drinking tea several times a day. I have heard rumors that echinacea tea can help your immune system some. Is this true? My mom just bought some for me. I have also tried the Celestial Seasonings Mixture Pack that has different sampls in it. i find i like the peppermint the best. I also heard that taking echinacea as a supplement can affect how your meds help your immune system in maybe a harmful way. What is the correct thing to beleive in this case? Is drinking echinacea tea and taking a supplement a good thing or a bad thing?

Echinacea can affect some of the HIV meds. I am not sure which ones though. You may want to check with your doctor. As far as echinacea tea, I don't know. It's potency is probably not as strong as the suppliments so it may be ok. Again, check with your doctor for more clarification. In the mean time, drink another type. It's not like there isn't an plentiful to choose from.

I am the only person that drinks tea in my household. I usually only drink regular tea. I boil about 3 tea bags to make a gallon I believe. I do add sugar to make that almost old fashioned sweet ice tea.

I am wondering if I should start using Honey instead. Honey is supposed to be very good for you.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Trader Joe's White Tea with Pomegranate is the deal. Some Hibiscus (which has been shown to lower blood pressure) in there as well. An anti-oxidant bomb at a very good price.
