Two years ago I took an interest in genetic geneology and sent oral cheek scrapings to Family Tree DNA.  I now know of ancestors from Wales on this continent before the Revolutionary War.

Recently I discovered that FTNDA offers CCR5 delta-32 testing for existing and new Y-DNA and mtRNA customers, so I ordered the test.  The results posted last night:  I have one copy of the delta-32 mutation, in addition to the HLA anamoly found by NIH.  My partner gave me his "That's nice, honey." look

Geneology is a fascinating subject. Your information is very informative.
I too have ancestors who came to this country before the Revolutionary War. Some from England and some from Holland.  They settled on Long Island, New York. The Dutch of course were in New Amsterdam (now New York City) previous to moving out to Long Island. I also happen to know that there are gay members of my family on both sides...my mothers and my fathers (sides).

edited for clarity? Whats not clear ...I have gay family members, that I know of, dating back to the 19th century .

Does it take more to produce a gay child? STRIKE THAT..."mother's and my father's [sides]. I got it now. Remember how much the Thomas Jefferson Family enjoyed the result of their genetic testing. DNA all the way!

Just imagine how much fun my father, the Free Will Baptist minister, will have as I get him tested as the possible source of this blip, then potentially reach out to extended family if he's the donor parent!  My mother, who diverced him when I was 2 years old, is open to testing for delta-32 and my HLA B-44+ blip, though I keep letting her wiggle out of appointments.  Still, I have a couple known distant male relatives with a common paternal ancestor somewhere in the 1600-1700 range who are Gay and surprised that they did not contract HIV years ago -- this news gives them more reason to have their CCR5 tests run, even if I can't get my father or one of my step brothers involved.

OK I'm a bit clueless about the genentic code. Are these "gay genes" or the immune resistant genes that saved many in the black plague days?

I saw the PBS documentary about that and they ended up with a gay man that survived all his friends deaths and turns out he has the 2 genes that ward off infection.

I probably confused things by adding that I have gay ancestors. I believe that redhotmuscle was ONLY speaking of the genes that prevent HIV from attaching.
