Unexpected Benefits Of AIDSmeds.com
« on: December 13, 2006, 11:35:12 am »
Ive been a member of AIDSmeds for about two years now, and I've just realized an unexpected Bonus :

I was looking at some of my posts in the Archived Forums and I cant help but notice the drastic improvement in my computer skills, first it was learning the simple task of posting a link to a website, then uploading a profile photo ( which was tricky in the Old Forums if you were using a Mac.) Using some basic HTML code, Then setting up and writing a Blog, doing an audio 'Podcast' and now doing a series of videos and Video Blogs ( Vlogs )  on Everyones favorite website  YouTube.

I suppose that I could have simply ordered 'Video Professor' and learned all of that stuff in a few hours,  but I was alot more motivated by the folks here, and the continuing 'Hey Look what I can do now'  thing that continues every day.

Anyway just Thought Id share, since 'tis the season and all that. but more on that in an upcoming Post..
Has anyone else realized any 'hidden benefits' of AIDSmeds other than the medical/technical info and ofcourse the support of a truly diverse group of people from around the world?

Brava LWood!  Meeeee toooooo. Ditto, ditto, ditto!

I've noticed all sorts of improvements in my computer skills that I didn't learn at the Brentwood Secretarial Academy all those years ago.  I also have a really fun time doing the graphs thing in the 'Cool Tools' section!  Sometimes I pull out my 'Elizabeth Taylor Fantasy' day planner and compare what my lab results are on the graphs to what I was doing or what outfit I was wearing on the exact day the blood draw occurred.  You're not going to believe what I'm about to tell you, but truly amazing things happen when one breaks all the rules and wears stripes and plad together at the lab!

Thanks for sharing a commonality, sister!

I've leared how to edit photos a little better.  I'm not much of a picture guy but we have to do things we hate sometimes, like showing our image.  There are so many other things I've gained from this website beyond the technical bits.  I also expect there to be many more once I begin meeting people face to face...  such as next week when I meet Chaplinguy in Denver  :)

That's great Lwood. I wish I was where you were in skills. I am good at some things and suck at others. I would like to learn how to do web pages and be able to add music to it. I would like to know more about pics too, I tried to use photobucket and even that confused me....Will even admit to buying html for dummies and still couldn't get it... ;D So, what does that tell ya?  Any suggestions?

I haven't really picked up any computer skills (I work in IT), but I've met some really great people here in person.  That's definitely a benefit I never expected from the forums.

Longislander - try keeping both hands on the keyboard :)

Oh yea - I have an aunt who lives in a little town way out east on Long Island - my dad was born there - cool place.
And I wished for guidance, and I wished for peace
I could see the lightning; somewhere in the east
And I wished for affection, and I wished for calm
As I lay there - Nervous in the light of dawn
