Cliff or others who know:

Could Tim Horn's presentation be viewable to members not in Montreal via Skype?

If someone brings their computer and we have a video camera, if the hotel has WIFI, could all of that be set up so that it's viewable on a Skype conference call?

Is something like this even doable?  Dumb idea?

RAB,

This is certainly doable. I'm not familiar with those type of set ups but would think there are better options software wise for this than Spyke.

If I'm not mistaken, Skype is a bit limited.
In theory, all we would need is someone's laptop, with a camera, but Skype only allows for the host, and four additional participants.(for a conference call)
However, another recording platform would work. Maybe something like YouTube. Record the conference, then upload it for viewing, but again there is the problem of length.
I'm not very well versed in such manners, but I'll bet that Bailey might know how to do this.

I can upload up to 100mb per video on youtube with no time limit since i have director status there.

It wouldn't be an instant viewing thing, but it's possible to get it posted quickly, however, I won't have a computer up there to work with., though anyone who does, can edit the video to compress it and then shoot it to my youtube account.

Skype might be difficult to do, just because of what Lisa said (the limitations of the number of participants).  But Dingo's idea sounds good, (or maybe even Poz would be interested in posting it on their website).  We would need someone who has a digital camcorder, but I would be surprised if someone didn't bring one.  The quality may not be fantastic as compared to a professional production, but it would definitely be doable.

Good idea!

When I first thought of this idea this morning, I was thinking it would be a way for Tim to communicate with a broader group of people, besides those of us in Montreal.

It's obviously not as simple as I hoped/imagined.

With the equipment limitations and techical skills needed the issue Cliff mentions about quality might be a concern for Tim and Peter.  The entire cost of his presentation is being provided by AIDSMeds so I guess they would need to give an o.k. first.

I have no idea how to go about something like this, so if it can be done, with their approval, someone will need to take charge of this and bring it together.

Dingo, anyone else?  Would this be too time consuming for you while we are there?

it's definitely doable on a recorded basis, at minimum for uploading after upon return home.   That's easy.   It's also easy if somebody has a laptop that can download the digital video into and compress it and then upload to youtube while up there.

A live broadcast/podcast type thing is possible, but I don't know where to start there.

yes, i hope to get some video clips of the group, sites and some one person 'confessionals' to say whatever and then through the power of home editing (if i ever figure it out) combine it with still pictures from the group, I shall make DVDs of the comprised clips.   No matter what, I shall upload the edited versions to youtube, but I plan on making dvd's for those attending (or rather computer cdroms that look like a dvd case and such for cost control :P)

Hi Gang:

I'm actually going to ask that we hold off on video recordings of the workshop.  Given that I really want the workshop to be more of an open forum -- giving everyone the ability to ask questions and to share their personal views -- I don't really know if it's appropriate to record the event.  I want everyone to be able to speak freely and, if necessary, confidentially.  There are potential problems with this... and when I've done similar workshops in the past, I've expressly forbidden video or audo recordings.  Cameras can have a very strange influence.

But here's what I'll do... soon after the presentation, I'll make my PowerPoint slides available to everyone in the Forums, along with any notes providing more detailed summaries of what's spoken about.

Would this be okay with everyone?

Thanks guys,
Tim

Tim,

Your point is well made and well taken.  I like the idea of the PowerPoint presentation.  After all, you are the expert.

So looking forward to this element of the Gathering.

Warmest regards, Ric

Great point Tim. I think you have come up with a perfect solution.

Powerpoint rocks. I wish I had more occasion to use my copy of the thing.
