Our cat passed away
« on: April 27, 2011, 11:04:29 am »
I'm not a "cat person" but we've owned this stray for 20+ years.  People constantly drop cats and kittens in our area thinking we must want them.  Back when Miss Kitty showed up, we tried to shoo her off as usual.  She would have no part of that.  My mom finally took her to be fixed and we adopted her as an outdoor cat.  Through the years, we wouldn't see her for days at a time and then she'd show up hungry.  She'd gladly let us bring her in when the weather warranted it, but for the most part she was happy being free.

She's been looking kinda rough lately and I went looking for her.  I found her curled up in hercat house. Not sure if it was proper, but I went ahead and buried her in the pet cemetery before my mom returns home.

 :'( my condolences

My Mom has "Mr. Kitty" an outdoor cat that she adopted. Last year I taught him how to use the doggy door. LOL Back in the winter we thought he had had a stroke but the vet worked miracles with some antibiotics and now he's back to catching mice and sleeping in the AC every night.

My own cat passed away a couple yrs before I left up there in Ohio. At 19 1/2 yrs old, she had outlived 8 dogs and my 2 partners and I thought she'd outlive us all. I did find out then that the oldest cat on record was 26 yrs old.

My condolences on your loss. Having always had cats, I empathize with you and offer the following:

A Cat’s Prayer *

Although I am too proud to beg,

and may appear to be a very independent creature,

I ask for your loving care and attention.

I rely on you for my well-being much more than you may realize.

This I promise you, my benefactor, that I will not be a burden on you.

Nor will I demand more of you than you care to give.

I will be a quiet peaceful island of serenity for you to gaze upon;

a soft soothing body to caress,

and I shall purr with pleasure to rest your weary ears.

Since I am a gourmet who appreciates different taste sensations,

I pray you will give me a variety of nutritious foods and fresh water daily.

You know dear friend, how I love to go.

Allow me, I pray, a warm sheltered place

where I can rest peacefully and feel secure.

If I am wounded in battle or suffering from disease,

please tend me gently, and see that I am treated

by loving and competent hands.

Please protect me from the inhuman humans

who would hurt and torture me for their own amusement.

I am accustomed to your gentle touch and am not always suspicious

nor swift enough to avoid such malicious acts.

In my later years when my senses fail me

and my infirmities become too great to bear,

allow me the comfort and dignity that I desire for my closing days

and help me gently in my pain or passing.

Hear this prayer, my dear friend, my fate depends on you.

Thanks for all the kind words.

Sorry for the loss...  Did you tell your mom about it yet?

I was just wondering because I remember one time when I was 7 years old I woke up early one Saturday morning before my mom and pops.   We didn't have these channel selections back then that these youngins have today so I was bored.   My mother had this parakeet named Feathers who was quite the daredevil.  I also happened to have the Scoobo Doo Mystery Van that Feathers fit in perfectly.

The morning started off amazing, and with every corner and turn Feathers took I sensed, with my limited 7 year old knowledge, that she indeed wanted something more daring!  I set the cushions up into a little ramp and was ready to do a mock Evil Knievel Canyon jump like they showed me as an impressionable kid on Wide World of Sports (CBS?)!!

I double checked the side door of the Mystery Van and made eye contact with Feathers.  Wolfie, I swear she gave me the nod and she looked forward as if to say, "I'm ready Tommy!!!"

So I let the little van go....  as it gained momentum towards the sky jump something happened.   Think Dale Earnhardt here if you must, because the damn van got sideways.   As it careened recklessly out of control, I imagined Feathers turning the wheel in utter desperation trying to gain control, but there sadly was no wheel and Feathers didn't have hands, oh yes.  The van hit the side of the jump at a trajectory I hadn't anticipated, meaning there were no safety pillows in that part of the landing zone.   She hit with force... but it looked innocent, just like Dale's crash at turn 4 in Daytona.

I'll stop there with the  details.  When my mother woke up Feathers was sleeping soundly on her side at the bottom of the cage.  Sadly she never woke up.

I waited a little while before I told my mother what really happened to Feathers.  It seems waiting 20 years sometimes makes bad news not so bad..
I despise the song Love is in the Air, you should too.
