Reactive Insti Test - very worried

<< < (2/4) > >>

Jim Allen:
Well, I think my thoughts are clear on this one.

--- Quote ---If this was your only sexual encounter/activity, I see no reason to test outside the yearly routine, and the reactive screening test was just that and nothing more.

If you had any exposure not mentioned here, then, by all means, test at six weeks with a blood draw (lab) antibody test. The result will rarely change, and retesting at three months generally isn't needed.

Now let me change the situation and pretend you told me you had had condomless intercourse.

In that case, I would tell you to retest at six weeks with the lab blood draw antibodies test to confirm your HIV status as you are currently testing within the window period.

Hey,

Im really concerned because me and my fiance are trying to get pregnant but i dont want to have unprotected sex with her yet.

What is your opinion?

Thank you very much

Jim Allen:
I've removed part of your post that I've already answered as I will not repeat myself and merged the posts.

Posting more than three questions or responses requires a paid subscription. Hence you could not post here without one, but that doesn't mean you get to post in sub-forums for people living with HIV to bypass the subscription requirements.

Don't post outside of this thread again. Next time, it will lead to a ban; thank you!

I wish you both the best.

I'll mention the same thing I do whenever anyone mentions being in a relationship. If you engage in condomless sex with your partner, you are obviously at risk of acquiring HIV.

In relationships, condomless sex is often based on trust or past test results; however, this does not prevent HIV, so if condomless sex does occur, you should consider testing more frequently.

Dmt89:
Hey i am back with subscription, thank you for your replies back then.

I tested every week since my positive rapid tests throughout 6 months since my last exposure and 4 1/2 since the two positive rapid tests.
I did about 30 4th gen tests, 4 times PCR for HIV 1 and 2 and two times Western Blot.
Besides that I also did about 50 rapid tests (Alere and Insti again). All negative.
I am still worried. I hope you can understand that somehow, since the positive INSTI tests, which are known to be very reliable, were very traumatizing.

Can I really be 100% be sure now? I am still experiencing some symptoms and back then, when the insti was positive, I had lots of very specific symptoms. I know you always tell symptoms mean nothing as long as you don't test positive, but paired with my positive rapid tests maybe it needs a closer look, because I actually tested positive, although the follow up tests were negative until now.

I couldn't find any reports from other people online with positive Insti tests. That is still so scary. I always read about Oraquick false positives but NEVER Insti.

Are there any other tests available to be really sure? I don't want to infect my wife. We want to have kids, but I am scared to have unprotected sex with her.

I know I did too much testing but I just went crazy about all that.
I also know being positive is not a big deal these days. But being undiagnosed for a longer time can do more harm.

And one last question:Could this much testing and having so much blood drawn affect my results or immune system?

Thank you!

Wait when did you last have condomless intercourse or a broken condom during intercourse?

Use a condom

Unless you lock her up 24/7 and test her after being locked up for a few months before  condomless intercourse it will mean you are accepting the risk of acquiring HIV.
