Lab Results

I'm kinda frustrated about my lab results, but at the same time I shouldn't be complaining.  I started meds almost 16 weeks now. It worries me why my cd4 are not going up faster and why am I still not at undetectable yet?  I was hoping for slightly better results this time.  The doc told me it's normal...as long as I am seeing my cd4/% increase and vl decrease, it's a good sign and the meds are working.  He also told me that it takes time for cd4 to go up.  I guess i'm just very impatient. 

Last Lab was at the end of January 2007:
cd4 - 260
cd% - 33%
vl - 169

New Lab results 2/28/07:
cd4 - 267
cd% - 38.1%
vl - 132

it may be slower than you want, but all show definite improvement, especially the %. I don't think I would worry about it so much either, but I'm not in your place yet. Good luck with it all~

Don't complain.  They're going in the right direction. 

As far as VL there was a time when the measurement was <400 = undetectable, so by that older definition you are indeed undetectable   Plus your % is quite good, and went up quite significantly, and is much more important marker these days than a cd4 count.

38.1% and you're impatient for an improvement? Sweetpea, as far as I understand 38.1% is within the normal range. You can't get much improvement on that.

Thanks for the responses and you guys are right, I shouldn't be complaining.....I do understand that by the old standard, <400 is undetectable....but I was hoping that I would have achieved undetectable vl according to the new standards by now.

Nice numbers. I agree with the rest of the gals, your numbers are going the right direction. From my understanding it can take months before someone can reach undetecable viral loads. My first ID doctor also told me that it can take me many years a really high number. Some people go up very quickly some take longer. You'll do fine cutie.

There is only 1 month difference between these readings so you can't really expect much of an increase.  And it's only been 4 months that you've been on meds.  It's still might be too soon. I'm curious, what were your numbers when you started?  If your t-cells were low, they take longer to respond.

What the others have said, though, that your percentages are good, they're right on.

Hi Robert, before I started meds, my cd4 was in the 240s....cd% was lingering around 29%-30%....vl 34,000.
