Although sensible i did make a mistake!
« on: April 27, 2007, 09:26:18 am »
Hi, let me introduce myself a little. I'm a 25 year old English bloke that live and works abroad. I spend most of my time on aeroplanes and in hotels for work but when i head back to Germany (where i base myself) i do all the stuff I enjoy. That includes drinking, football, going on holidays and of course women.

I have been lucky enough to travel to Asia and Africa but in Africa i wouldn't have sex and only got a hand job with a condom on. i know that sounds stupid but i know at least i was safe... But I was sent to Poznan, Poland to work for 2 weeks where i met a girl who tunred me on like no other girl had. After dinner et all we went to my room where one thing led to another. We ended up having sex BUT at first I went in unprotected... After maybe at the most 10 seconds (I would have said more 5 secs but just to be safe) I pulled out knowing that this was wrong and then put on a condom and did the rest....

I did some reading after and I realise that HIV is a very fragile virus to transmit. But 2 1/2 weeks later I had a sore throat and then a tempreture. Went to see my doctor about this and the first thing he said was "You have tonsilitis (Forgive my spelling) again." So i told him what happened in Poznan and he said "You had a risk but in this case I do not think that this is HIV. To me this is just tonsilitis." He also went on to say that it was a hard virus to transmit etc. However on Tuesday night when I was at home, My throat started to hurt. it feels like my glands were swollen. So i went to my doctor again today and explained that they hurt and this has now been going on for three days and he explained that this is just normal. However in my experiences with  tonsilitis i have never had a throat pain like this before.

My main question is what do you guys think? Am i just being paranoid or do i have a lot to worry about right now? My doctor's assessments have ususally been spot on but maybe it's the worry about my mistake. I always said i would use a condom unless i was in a monogomous relationship.... However i almost slipped up here. My doc said he would HIV test me at the 3 month window but he also said "I would gamble my house that you do not have HIV from this very brisk encouter."

It won't kill you to take the test and find out your status.

It's all but certain that you will test negative, but HIV status is not something to ever guess about.

Since you're sexually active, why not just get a full STD panel done? It's something ou should do at least annually. I do expect you will collect a negative for HIV but why worry and wonder? Get tested, collect your negative and learn from this experience to always, ALWAYS use a condom no matter what.

Cheers,
Andy Velez
