Is anyone self employed and what insurance plan do you use?
« on: September 25, 2018, 06:11:48 pm »
I'm not right now but may be in the future but having second thoughts.

I'd rather be poor and have all of my meds and visits and labs covered than to have to spend money on medications.  I just had my new doctor send over refills for Triumeq which I didn't need right now but they said it was too early anyway and the price was $3,300 a month, that's like $110 a pill a day.   Plus I have 2 other doctors for non HIV things that i need meds too.

Just wondering.

Also at what level of income do they say we can't assist you even if you spend down by buying meds?
Pray God you can cope
I know you have a little life in you yet.
I know you have a lot of strength left.

I'd imagine it totally depends where you live. Me, Texas, 800.00 per month for obama care policy and have a 3k cap on meds per year. That leaves me paying 3200.00 per month for Triumeq. I'm currently debating discontinuing meds. I currently have income so that pretty much disqualifies me from assistance it seems.

That is crazy and sad and scary.  It's not even worth working if you then have to spend so much on medicine.  Please do not stop taking your meds.   Try to keep looking for other programs or call a local AHF chapter so see what programs may help of even if the manufacturer has discount programs or try to find a different medication that may be cheaper.  Also see if you can buy the meds from somewhere else overseas.  I know one person who I heard of who was getting them from India I believe much cheaper that way.

Please don't stop taking your meds.

I'm one of the folks whose investigated ordering from India. I believe I've found a reliable source and placed my order just two days ago. If this source pans out it will cost me about $100 usd/month for meds. I'll report back if it's legit or if I got taken for $620.

inhousepharmacy is a reliable source that I've used before but their selection is a bit more limited and costs are a little higher.

https://www.purchase-prep.com/product-category/u-s-a/treatment-usa/

The above link is from the British site I want PrEP now, but includes a couple of treatment options.

Good news. The Indian source I used is legitimate. I received my meds today. Unfortunately, I can't upload a picture with proof to the forum.
