What an awesome idea, this Friday night I'm going to have some THC fudge brownies my cousin gave me, with some wine and munchies... Homer will fit right in to the festivities  :D

I also enjoy watching the Marx Brothers when I'm getting stoned  ;)

I'm recording today's.  we have an extra DVR not being used, so I am going to hook that up and record as many as it will hold.  You cannot get Simpsons on Netflix and they've only released up to like season 16 on DVD.

It is interesting to see the evolution of the characters-- the look and voices.  They were pulling in 35 million viewers in those first couple of seasons and still pulling in 15-25 million for years.  This last season had ratings down to 3 million.  So, if that doesn't pick up, I'm not sure how much longer FOX will keep them on.  FOX cancelled American Dad, but TBS picked it up.

I remember the Tracy Ullman Show and the roughly drawn Simpson cartoon characters years ago at their start.

Cartoons?!  Of course that's for kids.

Now animation on the other hand .  . .

sorry, I've been caught up in the #EverySimpsonsEver all day. Thank goodness Planet Fitness has FXX.

so you've never watched a show that been's on air for 25 yrs? If I were you, I wouldn't tell too many people about how disengaged you are with pop culture. But don't have a cow man, that's just how I feel ;) ;D ;D

I just realized, checking out the simpsons wiki entry, that when this show started I didn't even know I had "teh aids" yet, and my pet store was still in business. Good times back then :)

Yes. why yes, you have.

You have disclosed to the 24 reads of this thread (as of the time I'm posting) and to everyone that will goggle up simpsons and find a link to this thread ;)

I need to do some math now. I am waiting for the ninth episode of Season 8 - "El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Jomer (The Mysterious Voyage of Our Homer)"

edit to add: I'll think that'll be some time on Sunday

gods no! Doh! I took french in high school in nc with a teacher who had a Southern accent. LOL besides I can't roll my r's anyway so spanish was out.

that episode is entitled in Spanish because Homer eats a Guatemalan insanity pepper (mmmmm insanity peppers) and hallucinates an Mayan pyramid looking for his soulmate as he is assisted by the Space Coyote (voiced by the late great Johnny Cash)

I don't get smoke marijuana. It has a negative effect on me. I get very depressed.
I did like the Harpo when I was younger. The funny thing is when my husband shaves everything except his mustache he looks like Groucho at times. Especially with his glasses on.

I hooked up an unused DVR and it is just about full.  I recorded on the standard definition channel, to get more episodes.  I guess that will be about enough for me.  This goes on for another week until Labor Day.  I'm just now getting through the ones I recorded on my TIVO.  I am on Season 3.  Chief Wiggum and Mayor Quimby still talk funny.  The Chief still has dark hair, instead of blue.  Mr. Burns is still very evil-talking; they haven't made him more comical yet.

I'm already started to feel burned out, so I don't want to ruin my love of the show..lol.
They will be playing the episodes after 9/1, but just on a regular schedule.  I can catch them down the road.  So, I will just watch a few episodes here and there.  I really wanted to see the early ones anyway.

wuss!  ;)
Season Eight just started with a Halloween episode (Lisa grows a micro world; Kudos and Kang dressed as Bill Clinton and Bob Dole go "twirling twirling twirling towards freedom" to win the election in a two-party system).

The episode I've been waiting on doesn't play until 630 so I'm still watching and waiting.

I remember that episode.  It was Bart's tooth, I think, which started the micro world and Lisa becomes their god.  So, you're waiting for Homer eating Chief Wiggum's chili peppers and going on a spiritual journey?  I like the one where they go to NY and Homer's car gets booted and he has to run to use the bathroom in the World Trade Center, but he has to be at the car when they come to take off the boot.

Edited:

The bit I laugh at still to this day is when Homer tries to drive the car into the river for insurance.  He jumps out but rolls back into the car.  I can be going to sleep and think of that.  For whatever reason, it cracks me up.

I remembered President Bush bashing "The Simpson's," like Dan Quayle did "Murphy Brown."  I had to look it up to see exactly what he said.  He said American families should be more like the Walton's and not like the Simpson's.  I read in reruns of the episode, where Michael Jackson plays a mentally ill man, they changed the opening to include the Simpson's watching what Bush said about them.  (See below)

I do remember an uproar over the show.  I was in middle school, when they premiered in 1989. and many parents acted like it was porn.  As I am watching these early episodes, Bart was actually pretty respectful to Homer.  They did many father/son activities.  God was a big part of the show.  Homer doesn't want to go to church anymore and Marge tells him not to make her choose between her God and her man, because God would win.  Even Lisa was a god-fearing Christian in the early episodes.  Bart struggled with right and wrong.  I would think conservatives would have loved that.

Of course, the Simpson's then and now is very tame, compared to American Dad and Family Guy.  It is just another example of conservatives focusing on the wrong things.

6 episodes in I realize: what am I going to do about the show playing at 4am tonight?!?! I can't stay awake for 12 days and never go anywhere ::)

I had that same problem during the Breaking Bad marathon.

I did all that recording to learn FXX is basically going to be The Simpson's channel, after the marathon.  They will be running mini-marathons daily from 6pm to midnight, with some days having shorter ones.

Now, if I could get a marathon of Knot's Landing, then I would be happy.  They've only released the first 2 seasons on DVD, and it appears that's it.  Guess it didn't sell well.  The first 2 seasons were boring.  It wasn't until the 3rd season that the show got interesting and Knot's made the top 10 shows.

I've learned it is currently playing daily in the UK on a network called "CBS Drama."  I don't understand why they get that network and we don't.  Apparently, CBS Drama Network is dedicated to showing many of the old shows, and not just dramas and nighttime soaps.  For anyone living there, I would gladly send you a Slingbox, so I could stream the show here across the pond..lol.

we're up to season 22 now. Less than 48 hrs to go. #EverySimpsonsEver

I can't believe how many of these episodes I've watched. LOL It sure helped make the time pass while I painted the kitchen and the master bath after the remodeling. (we had a very bad case of black mold and our house has been nearly rebuilt from front to back and side to side. )

this afternoon Pivot will be restarting Farscape (the best scifi show ever!) in mini-marathons on Sunday afternoons. #FrellYeah

Are we responsible for Fox News, by watching The Simpson's?  They were pulling in over 30 million viewers in their best years.  Well, Bart apparently thinks so.  It is an interesting question.
