Starting treatment today - nervous and my tummy hurts
« on: July 01, 2011, 12:31:48 pm »
After two years of living with HIV I decided to start treatment.  My numbers (below) are good but my VL has been inching up steadily over the last 2 years - not bad but a trend.  I just decided that I could now deal with adherence and my bf has been nagging me to start - says I am tired more than before.  Prolly some truth in that.
Well I took the T and I this morning and besides a little tummy ache I feel nervous but OK.  I hope I made the right decision but no going back now. Not thrilled about twice a day Isentress but will switch to quad pill when it is available.
I got the script filled once and my insurance says I have to do mail-order ongoing (express scripts subbed to curascript). So far getting it setup has been a nightmare - lots of bouncing around and no ship date yet but I got 30 days to get it straightened out.
It feels comforting being back on this forum after 2 years -  it got me through the agony of testing/diagnosis and I felt compelled to reach out again on the treatment milestone.

Welcome back boneil -
I'm sure you will do fine on the meds -
First going on them can definitely produce a lot of anxiety -
but, hopefully your body will adjust well with no or minimal side effects.

Best to you and keep us informed how it is going.

I was you two months ago man..I was very nervous my first night to take meds..I held the pill bottle in my hand for almost a half hour before I could take it..I'm not on the same meds as you are, but Im happy to say that my side effects weren't all that bad and they faded quickly..Just mild light headedness and fatigue..I hope you also do well!

Metamucil. This will solve all your problems. You can buy it cheap at a health food store, they call it "psyllium husk" and it's wonderful.

If you're constipated it makes you regular.

If you can shit through the eye of a needle (diarrhoea) it will give bulk to your poo.

Of course you will still fart like a two bob race horse, but that's ok. :)

Unable to trust in a fart. :(

Reminds me of the saying for people on HIV meds:

"Never waste an erection. Never trust a fart"

I'm sorry Bonell, sometimes you just have to find the humor in any situation to make it better..I hope I didn't offend you :) Is your stomach getting any better since you have started meds? Any worse?

boneil- I had to give up dairy for the first year after starting because of the Truvada Ass Blast. I have slowly started to add it back to my diet.
Happy 4th!

Day 5 and it seems to be getting a little better.  I now eat something with my morning pills and I've eliminated dairy.  The gas-x also helps but I still feel like the Hindenburg by early afternoon.  I guess I was just expecting T&I to be a cakewalk and since I didn't have to go on meds I am a little peeved that I have side effects when I was good before.
