Belly fat, meds?
« on: January 21, 2018, 01:44:33 pm »
I’m doing well, mental health is better than ever, but wanted to post a question about physical changes. I’ve been on Genvoya now for almost 2 years. No issues at all, before that was Stribild. But I have a bit of a pot belly that’s driving me nuts. I’m starting to work with a trainer in hopes of getting in better shape, but is this the lipo due to hiv causing the belly fat (I’m a lean thin guy otherwise) or is it a medication side effect? I have no fat anywhere else on my body and have taken to wearing compression shirts to hide it. Would a different medication be worth a try? I’m also trying to improve my diet but I’m a thin guy overall who’s always had a flat stomach at least before I started hiv meds. Just wondering if there’s another option or if this is just something I have to work through myself?

I would not suspect with this class of drugs, some weight gain is possible but more general gain. The thing is if your concerned check with your doctor they can give you a checkup and look at the fat and tell you what they think.

Glad to hear you are doing okay BTW. Are you still working?

Thanks yea I’m doing great overall! In the scheme of things this is very minor. I’ll ask doc, not sure if it’s the meds or lipo or slowing metab.
