I really don't get what a long term survivor is except I may be one, I have been positive since '97.

I have been positive since I was 17 and well 15 years later I am struggling with boredom :'(! I like to quilt, cook, and be on the net. In fact I just finished my quilting class today and I still have a few more to go.
The reason why I joined this site is because I am comfortable in my life but I just do not have any positive friends except my hubby. :-*

Hi Idee, welcome to the forums.

I really don't get what a long term survivor is except I may be one, I have been positive since '97.

Unfortunately, you don't really qualify to post in the Long Term Survivors forum. From this forum's Welcome Thread:

Quote

This forum is a safe place for long-term survivors (LTS), defined as people living with HIV who tested positive for the virus before the advent of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) in 1996. This forum is a result of LTS members petitioning for a place to discuss issues unique to those who lived with a diagnosis of HIV through the initial decades of the AIDS epidemic.

Please read the rest of the Welcome thread (linked to above) as well.

This forum is for people who were diagnosed back in the pre-1996, pre-HAART (Highly Active Anti-Retroviral Therapy) dark days when there were either no meds available, or when they finally were, they were much more toxic than the ones in use today. These older meds often caused severe side-effects, many of which caused permanent damage that our LTS members struggle with to this day.

You are fortunate in that you were diagnosed post-HAART when not only did the meds become more user-friendly, but also much, much more effective.

I'll have to ask you to please not post in this forum. You may post in any of the others, with the exception of the Am I Infected forum.

Please don't feel hurt - I understand that you meant well and just didn't understand the definition of Long Term Survivor that we use for the purposes of this particular sub-forum. There is one forum where you may post where many other members of our forums may not - Positive Women. I hope to see you post in there from time to time.

By the way, I also removed one of your posts from another thread in this forum and put it here with this one. I left the third post in yet another thread, but you shouldn't reply in that other thread again.

Again, welcome to the forums and please don't feel hurt or let this mistake put you off posting in the rest of the forum.

Thank you for your cooperation in not posting further in this forum. I'm looking forward to hearing more from you elsewhere though!

Hugs,
Ann

PS - just so you know, I've also been poz since 1997 so I'm also not permitted to post in the Long Term Survivor's forum. The only exception is when I post in my role as forum administrator and moderator. ;)

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts
