My Mom
« on: August 21, 2007, 04:52:48 pm »
I have tested + a little less then two (2) yrs ago and really hadn't told anyone until I had accepted it, now that I have I had the talk with my parents and Mom is not taking it well. I am looking for someone who has a really cool mom that can be a buddy over the phone with my mom to help answer questions and just be an ear if needed. My family is the greatest and very loving and supportive, I just don't want to let them down and not be any assistance to them while they go through what I just went through the past several months. Please let me know of anyone or anywhere I can get info on such a person or program.

Thanks ,

Sharp,
Your Mom can post in the Someone I Care About has HIV forum. I would also call your local ASO, and see if there are any family support groups.

Would she go and talk to a therapist?

How long has it been since you told her? It has been 6 years for my Mom, and she still has trouble dealing with it sometimes.

Sharp,

Welcome.

I agree with Christine. A really good solution would be for your mum to join and post in the SICA forum where we have a number of excellent female parental units sharing and talking and supporting each other. I've no doubt they'd be delighted to help her shoulder the burden.
