Key West
« on: March 17, 2008, 10:02:12 am »
My confused, bi-sexual, lesbian friend and I are talking about going to Key West for a vacation. Neither one of us have been there before, we thought it would be great to go somewhere 'gay-freindly'.  Has anyone been there? Is it a great place for vacation?

I have been there 2 times in the past 4 years.  It is a great place to go.  They have many gay and some lesbian hotels (resorts).  It is a beautiful Island.  I've driven to Florida and then gone all the way down by car to Key West.   It is a beautiful ride.  About 2 1/2 hours from Miami.
Pray God you can cope
I know you have a little life in you yet.
I know you have a lot of strength left.

Key West is a blast. One of the last places down here where you can actually relax. Plenty of stuff to do and the people are very friendly. There are quite a few hotels that cater to the gay community. If your schedule is flexible enough, try going during Fantasy Fest, but you would to make reservations early because the island gets packed during that time and the hotels get booked up well in advance.
If you want to save some money, fly into Ft. Lauderdale airport, it's only about a 30 minute extra drive, depending on traffic, but you can save quite a bit over Miami International.

When I was growing up, my family would go to Miami once a year to visit my maternal grandfather.  He had retired to Homestead, and built his own house there.  His house was one of only 3 on his block that wasn't destroyed by Hurricane Andrew.

Anyway, when we would go to visit him, we would drive down to Key West for a few days.  Agreed that the drive is gorgeous!!!  Lots of good stuff to do there, a fun, friendly atmosphere, and some of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen!!!

The last time I went with my parents we stayed at some fancy resort that had a private beach.  There were lots of topless women lying on the beach, and my Dad says, "Look at the tits on...oh, never mind."   ;D

If you're going before Memorial Day, make sure to see Porsche perform ( don't know which bar/club) . Awesome drag who uses his own voice. I'm lucky enough to catch Porsche many times over the summer at Fire Island!

I Bet you are gonna love it,I do. I used to go often. The ride down there is so cool , the way land just gives way to the sea, the bridges...Every thing !. If you like to snorkel check into a day trip to fort Jefferson on the Dry Tortuga's . It has some of the best snorkeling Ive encountered. Fort Jefferson Is some distance from Key West . You can get there by boat tour or my favorite a sea plane tour. Its been about 10 years since I  I snorkeled there. It may seem a little pricey but I think its worth every cent. ... Let us all know how you liked it...personal stuff like did you party like a rock star and maybe if ya got laid LOL ...Jeff

If you want to do some snorkeling and can't make it out to Jefferson, you can try Pennekamp Park. Plenty of charters and a great reef system in the middle and upper keys. If you scuba dive, I van recommend some great wrecks.
