Latest Results - good news!
« on: May 25, 2007, 09:51:51 am »
Hi everyone, just thought I'd share this bit of news with you all.

When I was first diagnosed in February of 1993 I had a CD4 count of 450

Up till now it's never been any higher than that, but it as been as low as 54 two years ago, just before I started meds of Kaletra and Combivir.

Since starting meds, my CD4 seemed to settle at around 350, which I was happy with, but when I got my results back at the start of the year, it had risen to 425, so I was obviously curious to see what my next set of results were.

Got the answer yesterday - it's now up to 486!

So, after living with the virus for 14 years, my CD4 is now higher than it was at time of diagnosis!!

My viral load has gone from undetectable to 94, but my doctor said that it's so insignificant, it's not even worth thinking about, and she's more than confident that when I get my next set of results in September, my viral load will be back at undetectable, and my CD4 will be even higher!

I'm very happy right now  ;D

Have a great weekend everyone,

Luv

Richard

Good deal, Richard.  Did the CD4 percentage remain constant or rise, too?

wow Richard,

That is good news!!!
I was diagnosed in 1988 and allways stayed around the 400 mark. till 6 years ago it went down to under 200 so started meds.
The first few years it stayed around the 400/500 mark but the last 2.5 years its been around the 800 mark.
So fingers crossed your will go up and up (though the 500 mark is allright too ofcourse!!).
we both are evidence that you CAN live a long and good life  :)

Hi all

Well, back in May of this year I promised everyone that once my CD4 went above 500, then the drinks are on me...

I'd better start saving up, last Thursday I got my latest set of results back... and it's up to 502!!

I have been on Kaletra and combivir for 4 yrs, but my t cells never went passed 301...
Recently I changed my combivir to Truvada..........Iam hoping to see a difference,
but if i don't..I just keep on keeping on..........
My last t cell count was 241.........But as long as i feel OK...iam not going to complain............ ;)

Hi Rich

Glad to hear you're having such good results.

Have you tried asking your clinic for your percentage?? The information was never volunteered to me until I asked, i think that it's a test that's always done as a matter of routine, it is here in Manchester anyway but I think that they assume that unless you ask then you wouldn't know the significance of the result anyhow. Ask your Doc to see your full test results next time you go, most of them won't mean much to you unless you have some medical knowledge but you might be surprised at the number of parameters they measure.

All the best, john.

Hello John, I'll ask when I'm next at the hospital, which will be in January.  Not too sure about whether or not it'll make much difference to me personally as I don't fully understand percentages- I failed Maths you see  ;)

In fact, if I'm honest, I only make a note of my CD4 and viral load as a guide of how I'm doing rather than how I'm feeling; two years ago, the day before I got my worst ever results  (CD4 at 56 and viral load at 650,000) I'd spent 3 hours on a tennis court helping my club to beat a rival club in the tennis league!
