 Hi Cliff

The brown Alpacas you were asking about are Mum "Meg with her little boy "Java" and "Carlos" a fairly new comer to the family.

Thanks Jan!  They are gorgeous (especially Little Java, well he's not so little actually).  Are they different breeds (Carlos and Meg)?  I'm trying to decide which coat I like better.

Hi cliff

They are the same breed..Alpacas come in two breeds.."Huacayas' and "Suris" ours are Huacayas, they come in a variety of colours, and make up 97%  of the Alpaca population.

I have them sheared once a year and already have a buyer for their fleece, it's mostly spinners who buy the fleece..but there is a company here who export it and want to buy the fleece from all of ours..I didn't know it at the time but they all have top quality fleece.

The fleece is what they are reared for, there is money to be made if you have a large herd, but mine are just pets to me...but to make really big money you have to have a good breeding farm, the money comes from selling the cria's, but when Meg has her cria (sometime in febuary) I'm not selling her/him.
