No one ever talks about the statistics. However, it would appear that roughly 1 out of 300 people have hiv/aids in the US. (If I'm doing the math right).

According to the CDC;

"CDC estimates that 1,144,500 persons aged 13 years and older are living with HIV infection, including 180,900 (15.8%) who are unaware of their infection."

So your number is a little high.

HIV statistics vary wildly by county, and of course counties vary wildly by population density, not to mention the US is very large. If you want detailed statistics for where you live try using this:

In fact at least for my county which is coterminous with the city (meaning they are the same thing) I can obtain statistics down to the actual zip code -- which knowing the racial and income demographics of areas I can see a illustrative example of how HIV disproportionately effects people of color and lesser means.

example: in my zip code the prevalence is 1,816 per 100,000 while the zone directly to the west it's 2,552 (that is a more African-American lower income area), however the "gay neighborhood" downtown has a rate of 4,145 per 100,000 even though it's a high income area. The most Caucasian area of the city, meanwhile has a rate of 185 per 100,000.

I've also seen maps for my city per zip code that focus on new infections and that changes everything, because I know it's an area in the far west of the city that currently has the highest rate of new infections. Information like this is very important in terms of focusing resources on getting people tested in hard to reach communities.
