1 year anniversary
« on: August 15, 2006, 08:24:37 am »
hello everyone,
today is the my one year anniversary for testing positive, now i am one of the types that read read read  but never post or make a profile, but felt now is the time just to associate myself with a great group like ive found on this forum.

alittle background : about a year ago started getting extremely tired, felt some lumps on my neck, thats the gist of it,  had routine blood work done as well as HIV test
all came back except HIV test . after 2 weeks i finally went to my doc an said what about the HIV , he didnt know.. no answer,   so he calld the lab. which informed him
of inconclusive,  but they did western blot which was pos

so i sought out an I.D doc, having a best friend who is an oncologist helpd me deal with alot of the , as i call it  my 2 weeks of walking around in a cloud of  OH NO THIS IS NOT HAPPENing to me state, with a million questions

other than that ive never been sick, ill etc.. just tired..  labs came back as  Vl  430,000   cd4 275   %17     and started   meds of sustiva/truvada
one month after treatment   VL 320 cd4 320  % 21       now one year  VL undetectable  cd4 275 %28

i dont drink.smoke, sleep well, try to live stressfree but lifes ups an downs  we all know how that goes.

im 41, living in the USA   male      work probably too much , enjoy life as much as possible.

sideeffects subsided within a week of meds .

yesterday i had labs again   but was told of a new combined sustiva/truvada as ONE pill    ( right now i take 2 pills at bedtime)
ive never missed a dose ,  im alittle overzealous about it ,  making sure at the RIGHT time every day etc etc..

so theres alittle bit about me.. i cant tell you how many times ive came to this site and read storys, info etc just to help strengthen knowledge and to know im not alone

thanks  and  i will now be officially posting from time to time

mike

Mike,
Welcome and I am glad you took that first step to post.  I just had my first year this past Feb.  I know I deal with all this stuff pretty well.  I still have my days where I get in a cloud of wow I cannot believe this is happening to me.  I started also on Sustiva/Truvada and changed to Viramune because of the side effects of Sustiva.  I recently did a med holiday and just in the past 6 weeks started back on Sustiva and Truvada and now just this past Monday I started Atripla (the new combined once a day pill).  Remember we all all here for ya if you ever need us.  Like I always say we are given a hand to play and it is not the hand that we were dealt but how we play the hand we were given and it looks like you are playing yours very well.
Welcome again glad to have ya here!

Hello Mike,

Welcome !! My first year was spent in a bar room loaded most of the time. That was back in 1985-1986.

The first year can certainly be tough, but it sounds as though, you are doing pretty good !! Having a great attitude, trying to live stress free ( at least as best as possible) taking care of yourself, keeping busy, and sticking to the med schedule, can be the best thing for you !! it's great to control the virus, and not let the virus control you !!

Be looking forward to hearing more from you !

Take care of yourself-------
