Our brand new public ice rink (http://philly.curbed.com/archives/2014/10/15/you-can-try-to-ice-skate-at-dilwoth-park-beginning-nov-14th.php) next to City Hall opens tomorrow!

We're not supposed to be above freezing for over a week. I don't mind, I want a massive snow fall this year. I'm heading in to Winter without injuries so I might get to enjoy it. Perhaps I can finally make another huge snow fort?
-
Here we go ! Looks like the upper to lower mid west will get the worst of this one.
Wore my shorts today , I think for the last time .
The Cape is supposed to get only rain ,but still cold !
One of those ocean storms will kick our ass soon though.
Everyone take care and NO FUCKING FALLING !
-
Believe it or not it's snowing outside, but it's also 35F which means it's colder aloft a bit.
(it's currently NOT snowing at Granny's so I guess Miss P wins again!)
-
Getting cold , aint it !!
-
Why can't it snow in Sacramento :( we're still in the 70s and 60s we drop at night but nothing unbearable. I just want rain, lots and lots and lots of rain.
-
Its 26 here and I am going to have go out in it in a bit . My friend Ron is in a bit of a pickle and needs my help . He had hernia surgery and they did a Laparoscopic surgery but the problem was that they had to fix 6 holes and I think it left him feeling like he has been shanked 6 times and since he is rather large man he is in a massive amount of pain and truly needs assistance while his husband is at work . Also ... it feels good and free to call him my friends husband since they got married . It brings a smile to my heart every time I say it .
-
It's 43 and raw out here on the Cape . Nasty !! I feel for your friend Jeff,
I had a bi-lateral hernia repaired , I think in 97. It was the old fashion way with two big incisions
The pain was miserable , and was constipated . My business looked like the Bride of Frankenstein
VERY large and swollen , Shame I was in too much pain to use it !!
Betty said she needs a hobby , maybe she can knit everyone underwear...
Every body keep warm !
-
Well, we lucked out. Woke up to NO snow!
(Granny hopes Miss P keeps "winning" ALL winter long. :). )
-
It's 80 here now and no humidity...A beautiful day 8)

But to be honest, I do miss having snow and 4 seasons :(

One of our winter predictions is in! (http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/weather/stories/Hurricanes-18th-Annual-Long-Range-Winter-Outlook-282407431.html) -- you can see our last five seasons accumulations (2009-10 was our #1 in recorded history, and last season was #2 or #3) but this season while still over our yearly average might not be as bad as last year.
SUMMARY:
Average winter temp: 31.8 degrees (3 below "normal")
Snow 40-45” (“normal” is 22”)
HIGHLIGHTS
*COLDER THAN LAST WINTER
*COLDEST SINCE 2002-03
*>40” SNOW 4th of last 6 YEARS
*FEWER DAYS WITH SNOW THAN LAST WINTER
*AT LEAST 2 STORMS OF 12”+
*POSSIBLY MORE SNOW SOUTH OF PHILA.
>>> so I need to majorly stock up on snow/ice salt when I go home to my parent for Thanksgiving and have use of a car.

Sounds Good To Me !!

What a bunch of whiners lol. It was not only in the 20's here today, but we also got a foot of snow. It's a good time to have a broken leg lol.

I'm so jealous.....I want all that snow. We only got the cold with a little snow. I NEVER whine about Winter, I save all that for the nasty hot Summers. ;)
Plus, it's the time of the year when I can enjoy my nice flannel sheets. I bought a really expensive set last week in anticipation.

I know you like winters Greg. I don't mind this time of year, though I really like the autumn weather better (the temps in the 50's and 60's). Until, that is, there's a shit ton of snow that has to be removed in order to get out of the driveway. Though we are supposed to get a snowblower before the heavier snow hits. And speaking of that, this is really not a good time for the broken leg because I can't help to clear the snow. My housemate had to clear that stuff we just got. And it was not forecasted ahead of time. Totally unexpected.
Speaking of flannel sheets (of which I am a fan), I got into fleece sheets a couple years ago. Last year I got a set that is so soft, and maintains that softness even after multiple washes. They are a little more expensive than flannel, but I love them.

I would love to see what Sac looks like with snow. It would be so pretty. I really wish for some heavy rains and snow. But it's unlikely.

Well, I always like me a little winter -- so long as it only comes when I want it!! I do not want this cold just now.
We are sailing out of New York on Tuesday aboard the brand new Quantum of the Seas cruise ship. It is forecasted to be in the 30's as we set sail for a 3-night cruise to no where.
I've only ever brought a heavy coat on one cruise before -- Alaska (and that was only because we were going for a dog sled ride on a glacier). Oh well -- the main point was to experience this new ship -- I guess we'll see all of the inside of it (hope the casino is a generous one)!!

Have fun on your cruise. We're also taking a 2 day trip. To Louisville, KY of all places. ;) All that way for a damn pottery shop. OH well, at least I can interact with my southern boys. I've always been highly attracted to my southern KY boys. The dumber the better even.
-
The forecast is for anywhere from 1-4 inches here tonight, into tomorrow. There is a pocket right on top of Louisville for 5-8 inches. I don't remember an accumulating snow this early.
-
Forecast here is for 8.5"... oh wait wrong thread. my bad.

I hope you don't get disappointed if it only turns out to be a dusting. :)

We got down into the 20's in Central Texas, and expected to have sunny weather starting Saturday. WRONG! It was misting as I planned a hike in the nearby state park, and turned into a downright drizzle. So we've not been hiking, just driving carefully, and although it warmed up a bit it's getting cold again. Still drizzling for 2 days now.
I feel cheated out of Fall. We should be having what you Northerners refer to as Indian Summer about now.
-
This area is under a winter storm watch unt Tuesday at 7pm. Isn't everyone jealous? We got a couple inches (of snow) this morning.
-
I will be thinking of you all as I sit out in my back yard sipping Pina Colada and working on my tan. ;D

We will be transitioning, later this afternoon,.. and Tuesday's high will be in the 50's.
Finally,... jean jacket time !! Wednesday morning lows in the 30's . Shrinkage factor weather ! ::)

Good lord people it's gonna be 26 down here in San Antone tonight! I just got through dripping the outdoor faucets and covering my 'maters and beans. Now I gotta go dig out another blanket to throw on the bed :-*
But first some Hot Cocoa

Stop whining. I'll be down to 20F tomorrow.

Officially, Louisville got 3 inches. But, the city/county is huge and some places got 5 inches. We were trying to think of the earliest accumulating snow. A few years ago, we got an inch or so on thanksgiving night.
We are now bracing for lows in the single digits tonight. School was out today, as the storm hit overnight. I bet school is canceled or delayed tomorrow, with the bitter cold and freezing roads.
The snow was heavy and collapsed the protective net over the pond.

It's 17F here right now with 21mph winds and the sky is dumping snow exponentially. We are due to get 8-10 inches this evening and overnight. Tomorrow the temp will be going down to between 0F and -10T. I DON'T WANT TO SEE ANY WHINING ABOUT BEING COLD!
-
Ted do you have fish in the pond? Do they fair well in the sub-freezing weather? My son just made a huge pond and has gold fish (coi/coy?) in it and was curious how they do.

T. I DON'T WANT TO SEE ANY WHINING ABOUT BEING COLD!

Northern Indiana, right? Lake effect?
Oh, I was watching the Today Show and they were showing what was trending on twitter. At the bottom is JCPS. That is our school system, Jefferson County Public Schools. We are one of the bigger school districts in the country, but it must not be as hard to trend, as I thought. I guess the same as getting in the NYT Best Seller's list.

We have goldfish and koi. We worried, too. Here, they need at the bare minimum 18 inches depth, but we are tad over 2 feet deep, now. They all survived last year, when it was just 18 inches deep. They go dormant and hide away in caverns. Can't feed them, even if they wanted it, or it will likely hurt or kill them under 40 degree water temp. Got to keep a hole in ice, if it freezes over. Our fountain kept a hole, but some use heaters.
-
Betty always unfortunately wins the prize. It IS a good time to stay put with your broken, broken bones. Just smile and offer hot cocoa when your roommate comes in from the cold if you can. You still can be her hero. lol.
Ted, good luck this year. It might work out ok. We need 30" pond depth here and had a few fishy floaters over the years. More consistent frog fatalities but they came in on there own and took their chances. :'( At least they had a beautiful summer... well except those who were swallowed whole by bullfrogs and snakes.
Ahhh... winter. >:(
-
The wind, rain, and the thunder storms, made it;s way through here at about 1:00 this afternoon, with some tonado warnings in effect for this area. They have since expired.
Our rain gauge shows about 2 inches of rain, and the current temp is 68 degrees. Cooler temps are on the way !

I want to go somewhere warmer. it is now 11F with wind chill feels like 5 going to be colder over night. Anyone got a spare bed ,couch I can camp out in the warmth till spring? Oh Yeah I need a plane ticket and I will cook. lol asking to much?
-
My son just made a huge pond
Is it lined with cinderblocks like in your back yard?
-
Northern Indiana, right? Lake effect
Actually now, Southwest Michigan. mean, nasty lake effect. But, that's why we have lots of blankets. Lol.
-
I definitely think we chose the wrong time to go on vacation. We walked mere blocks along the Ohio River before being chilled to the bone. Guess we'll be spending the evening in the gayest little hotel room I've ever witnessed. I truly thought it was a joke when I first saw all the gawdy decor and this had the highest ratings of any hotel in the area.
But then again, it is where it is. :) stay warm all.
-
It's 6am and a cool 36 degrees here it's supposed to rain tomorrow but we're still maintaining the 60s may drop to the 50s tomorrow. Yay for rain!!
-
14°F wind chill... and of course I need to go out and run some errands >:(
-
Its 23 here and the wind is blowing ... I need to go to the store but its no big deal since I have warm truck to drive .

Carhartt? LOL -- they don't make ski coats filled with down feathers do they? That's more like what you wear on a construction site.
Marmot is specifically ski wear: http://marmot.com

Mine is like this -- fyi, I have owned this for over 20 years and have taken very good care of it so it's still in fine order. It was a wise investment when I first move up north. I only wear it on sub-Arctic days like this.
Now I need to go find my long underwear!

I was in Fred Meyer last night (The Walmart of the Pacific Northwest) and saw people running around in shorts with the freezing cold wind outside. Even with my Midwest sensibilities and full-on winter gear, nothing says "Winter is not here just yet..." quite like cheetah-print spandex.
-
DanO,
I assume that the women are wearing that but with Oregon I'm not so sure.
Init,
I prefer the Carhartt. Never knew it came in pink. I wore mine last winter while visiting Miss P. She must have been biting her tongue.
Anyway, I see that just south of Buffalo they are getting lake affect snow up the ying-yang. 6' or more! How does one deal with that?
edit: I take that back. I wore a raincoat in Philly and I froze.
-
Ms P knows she just loves the pink carhartt she is just being all uppity in public. Ms P I really didn't know fish net stockings were called long underwear . Learn something new every day! and Dano just heard on the news some place in ny will get over 70 inches of snow over night. How the heck does one deal with that much white crap... looking for my swim suit right before I came on the board. said we are going to warm up to the 60's this weekend wooo hoo Heat wave! UGH meant to say Mitch not dan lol need to hire a proof reader
-
DanO,

Neither was I.

Buffalo, NY just got SEVENTY inches of snow. If they get six more inches from the current story it will surpass the all time record for 24-hour snow set in Silver Lake, CO in April 1921. (actually this will happen at a place about 15 miles south of downtown Buffalo)
-
I haven’t seen Betty online much today, hope she is not frozen in with no power again .

Being from Buffalo, I am reminded, while watching the Weather Channel, why I moved down here to Florida 34 years ago. !
It's interesting how these snow bands set up in an area. I am very familiar with the areas that are getting hit hard,... Lancaster, Cheektowaga, Dunkirk/Fredonia...
I've seen 3 feet of snow fall in Buffalo, and barely an inch of snow 7 miles north.
The bands are supposed to shift north by tomorrow, so Downtown Buffalo, may be getting it soon.
-
SEVENTY INCHES ?
Wrong....Just Wrong
-
Just got back from the bay it's in the 30s now ,
there are big waves , and the high winds and sand are stinging !!
Time for a nite cap

Finally have time. I am going to text you a pic, Jeff, tomorrow, of my front yard. We got over a foot and are still under a winter storm watch. The temp is 17F and the wind is going around 25mph. At least it's not Buffalo, that looks like a total shit storm. Some people have no power there. Jeez.
I did clear off the porch three times with a big broom. But I haven't seen the outdoor kitty today and am worried sick about him. I hope he's alright.

Nice day today, God I miss snow, why can't it snow here. I did wake up cold, and had to drive to my eye doctors appt where I waited an hour for him to say nothing's changed come back in a year. Ugh! Then I went back to the warmth of my office, where I accidentally left my AC on, oops.
-
Perhaps it's because the Ohio River area sits in a valley but there have been nasty winds for 3 days now. It's downright bitter. We only have 2 antique malls and one wine shop left on our WVA adventure before heading home.
We managed to find some Hull pottery that was missing from the other Greg's collection. I was quite amused as he was balking at the cost. 2 days in an expensive hotel, several hundred miles of travel, endless miles of walking and bickering over a few dollars?.....priceless.
I don't negotiate, I simply pay what they're asking and move on.
Being in an area that I will always consider home has brought about great memories and a renewed calm. Did a lot of driving from the Parkersburg, Ravenswood and Charleston corridor.
We took all back roads to get here but will pretty much insist we take the interstate to get home.

It was 41 degrees this morning, for our low. The house got down to 63, so I cheated and put the heat on for a few minutes, and warmed it up to 66.
63 is cold, when you get out of a hot shower ! ;D

I would never let me house get down to 63F... I find even 66F difficult. The most I let mine go to is 68F and that's only at night. Otherwise I keep it at 71F

All I can say is that I need to plant bulbs so it better not be too cold this weekend. I only buy them when they cut the price and they only cut the price after every sensible person has planted them in warmer september and october.
But whats spring without flowers peaking up from late feb even, to may.

I like this time lapse video, on the blizzard lake effect that hit South of Buffalo, this week.
It was played quite a bit on the Weather channel. It's amazing how the frigid air sucked the moisture, right out of Lake Erie :

They finally lowered this to 1-3" (I'm at my parents house in northern Virginia) and 4-8" in the far west of our county so hopefully it might not even accumulate on the roads where I am.

Actually NOAA has winter storm warnings all the way down to the North Carolina border -- the Poconos down here will get a foot of snow. But from the coast inland 100-150 miles is all rain.

Oh, those Carolinians just love it. Better to wash out the poisons from mining ash poluting their drinking water courtesy of Duke energy. :(

It was 69 here today, and I'm still harvesting tomatoes and beans :D
-
So where is winter anyway? Not complaining mind you. Only 2 or 3 dustings of snow so far. Hopefully this weather will continue as Im not sure if I could take another one like last year. It's going to get a little colder soon but no big storms in sight!
It was in the mid 50's yesterday and around 50 today. Got outside and did some pruning and got my sad body moving.
-
Snow storm last night. Flurries all day today. Shores of Lake Geneva Switzerland. Cold arrived. I was waiting for sub zero so I could defrost my freezer. Finally did it today.
Sad all that meat I chucked. Took a good long time to clean the fridge. Had to clean behind all the door seals and shit. Fridges are not designed like they used to be. Not average consumer ones. There are a number of details that should be easier to clean. pieces that should be thick rounded safety glass or thick plastic and thats it. this model has some stupid ass design angles and corner and mixes of plastic and glass. Thinnish plastic. i was a dumbass not to buy frost free when I bought this 7 years ago. I need a 1000 bucks for an easier to maintain model.... Oh well, maybe next year... Its very clean for the moment.

this winter season is messing with me. torn between working outside or following my agenda.

:P
We're still raking the endless amount of leaves that keep falling. It's hard to keep up with it. Every day the patio is covered an inch thick ! ::) I need some cooler weather.
Something between 55 and 60 for the highs would be nice ! We're still at that fine borderline, where the AC has to be turned on for a few minutes.

I use a mulching mower on my leaves … my yard can use the thatch so its a good option for me .

I just let my leaves blow into the neighbors yard.
-
I just let my leaves blow into the neighbors yard.
a couple of Summers ago, I spent the typical full day raking my mother's entire yard. The entire neighborhood has those god awful huge maple trees which produce about 10 huge lawn bags full of leaves. I was totally overheated and grateful to have completed the chore and went inside to suck up some air conditioning. I stood at the window wiping myself with a cold rag admiring my hard work.
The neighbors on the back side watched me working tirelessly the entire day as they enjoyed their beer and smokes. The ignorant bastard then fired up his leaf blower and proceded to blow all his leaves under our shared fence. After watching for a few minutes in disbelief and witnessing my anger level reach the upper limits, I decided to battle him.
I ran down to the post and borrowed a leaf blower and promptly returned the gesture. I was so pissed that I purposely made sure that they were landing on their family and guests. I just smiled wickedly as they were yelling and cussing at me to stop. Didn't happen until I didn't have a single leaf remaining.
-
I haven't raked leaves or mowed a yard for 30 years.

There's a very bad ice storm arriving this morning in the Northeast but fortunately I'm avoiding it by 50 miles or so and just getting rain because I'm closer to the coast.
Then the temperatures go to the upper 60's on Sunday before plummeting to 12F a couple of days later.

Here comes that polar vortex....
http://www.msn.com/en-us/weather/topstories/ready-to-shiver-arctic-air-to-put-america-on-ice/ar-BBhsqlY?ocid=mailsignout
Ready to shiver? Arctic air to put America on ice
WASHINGTON — Much of America is about to get the Arctic shivers.
Meteorologists are forecasting frigid polar air will plunge much of the central and eastern U.S. into sub-freezing temperatures next week.
National Weather Service meteorologist Paul Kocin, an expert on winter storms, said it is a classic pattern of massive blasts of Arctic air hitting just about everyone east of the Rockies. He said it will rival last year's January Arctic outbreak that introduced the phrase "polar vortex" to America.
"This is going to be a big cold outbreak, pretty windy as well," Kocin said. "It's going to drive all the way down south."
Kocin predicts a small Midwestern band of intense snow along with the cold, with some also in parts of the Northeast.
Even though it is several days in advance, meteorologists are pretty sure about this forecast. Kocin said many of the best computer models are saying the same thing.
This is all coming from cold air escaping from the Arctic. The center of the cold air will be around Quebec, Canada.
-
The fridge was bare so I decided to take the 20 minute trip to the store.
1) realized I forgot my wallet 15 minutes into the drive.
2) arrived 40 minutes later to a packed store
3) wasn't paying attention to the forecast
4) not a flake in the sky until I walked out, a snow squall dropped about an inch while I shopped.
5) 20 mph all the way home. lol.
Yes, Miss P., 60 tomorrow, and down to 2 Wednesday night with 1-3" of snow on Tuesday or Thursday, I forget. Still better than last year and am hoping Ray is wrong!
Too bushed to cook. :P

Ps- Sligo must be in Ireland

Yup, Sligo is in Ireland.
As for the accent, there was no sound on yur clip.
Now if you want a hot accent, pour 20yrs of Northern Ireland, add a dash of NY, dilute with 20yrs So Cal, and shake. (lightly).
As for weather I've been lying in the sun in Palm Springs topping up my winter tan.
Today apparently Palm Springs was the hottest place in country. 71*

-
Well, We're certainly not going to get the blizzards and snow, that's forecast for up north, but it sure is windy today !! If it was summertime, I would think that a small tropical wave was passing through.
The Tampa Bay area, is still ahead of the front, that will be passing through here in 4 or 5 hours, and throughout the night.

The good thing, we got to go swimming in the community pool yesterday, and we also went today. The pool temp was about 80 degrees. ( heated)
And both of us really need the spa today !! So,.. we sat in there for about 30 minutes.
The rest of the week looks a little to cool for the pool. !

WEATHER ALERT!!!
Miss P. and I will get a mix of snow and rain. It will arrive in Philly at 9:42PM. !2:17AM here but I'm not staying up.
Total snowfall will be 3" in Philly (I'm sure the "official" total reported at the airport will be closer to 4") and we should get 4" here.
First need for a shovel this winter and it's going to be wet and heavy but not that big of a deal.
End of Accuweathermark report but I reserve the right to alter the forecast after the 5:15 local news.

our latest NWS briefing package (http://www.erh.noaa.gov/phi/briefing/packages/current_briefing.pdf) shows the city proper getting only 1-2" downtown and points south, while the northern sections will get 2-3". But then it's supposedly going to change over to rain after 2AM (go figure) which I will assume means that when I wake up there won't be anything to shovel.

Hey, I got distracted and was not able to update my forecast!
Ya, we're getting mush and slush here too.
I honestly would like to see one good storm before spring. Preferably no later than the end of February.

rubbing it in a little? lol hey we are going to be up in the low 50's this weekend .was suppose to get snow tonight. It seems to be the kind you can not see or feel. none yah!
-
It's been snowing hard here for the last hour, but it's 36F so it's not sticking. The snow/rain line on radar is just 25-30 miles south of the city. I'm not expecting much from this one but we shall see.
-
We hadn't gotten any measurable snow this month, until tonight. The last time we didn't get any measurable snow in January was in like 1932.
Two days ago, I took this photo of hyacinth bulbs already popping up, after a few sunny days in the mid-50's.
Tonight, we got this, which was not expected. I live about 12 miles from downtown Louisville. We went downtown for Brian's birthday dinner. No snow downtown. I love snow. We got some at Halloween. We got some at Thanksgiving. Didn't get any for Christmas, which I always love with the Christmas lights.

Official totals:
Center City 1.3"
Airport 1.0"
but evidently it transitioned to all rain here at 2am so I'm only left with slush, but right when I went to bed around midnight it was snowing really hard and with the largest snowflakes I've ever seen. Like the size of a quarter.
Oh, and there's another smaller "clipper" system coming through on Monday.

We got about 4" but it turned over to rain this morning. Still too much heavy white stuff to shovel. :P

Good morning Granny -- NWS just slapped a full on "BLIZZARD WATCH" (http://forecast.weather.gov/showsigwx.php?warnzone=CTZ007&warncounty=CTC007&firewxzone=CTZ007&local_place1=Haddam%20CT&product1=Blizzard+Watch&lat=41.4531&lon=-72.5079#.VMTkmMa1TYs) on top of you. Expect 12-18 inches and wind gusts up to 50 MPH.
NWS has me getting 6-10" and wind gusts up to 30 MPH
-
We had frost on the ground today .
-
***BREAKING NEWS*** National Weather Service just extended blizzard warnings from Ocean County, NJ though the entire NYC metropolitan area and from there to the New Hampshire border. This is going to be a very major event. Up to two feet of snow expected in these areas, wind gusts now to 55mph.
-
:o keep that shit up there. we have rain today said freezing rain but to warm for that
-
South Texas is making on run on the stores too! But its for Beer and BBQ, gonna be 73 today. Now where are my sunglasses...oh here 8)

I actually PM'd him this morning and made a special request for a new sign during this blizzard. Hopefully it will read "CONNECTICUT FISTS GAY TEXAS TEABAGGERS"
-
now I am actually reading “possibly the biggest blizzard in history” - “1 to 2 feet from Philly to central NJ. 2 to 3 feet for northern NJ, NYC, Long Island, Westchester, Rhode Island and eastern MA. Up to 2 feet in Connecticut and Western MA. There will be strong winds with gusts to 50mph during the blizzard creating drifts of over 5 feet.”
BARBARA PLEASE! :P 8)
-
Im totally jealous … I love a good winter storm .
-

And Donald Trump would have beaten Obama. Bloviation....
I remember snow storms with multiple feet of snow every winter throughout my childhood.
-
Im totally jealous … I love a good winter storm .
I guess we aren't supposed to like them anymore in the build up to the storm because of media, hysteria and people do get hurt and killed. But snow storms are great when all goes well, I agree.
Seems to me there were big dumps every winter I lived in NYC and we could cross country ski around Brooklyn.
-
Will you be doing community service again for this blizzard?
Yes, you should see the lines!
I think these photos probably hold the record for repeat posting here. Once again I must post the truth for the newcomers to see.

Fuck me. Since their last projection 8 hours ago the National Weather Service just doubled Philadelphia's snow totals. It's even worse for NYC -- 24-36"! I think the record for NYC is 27".

-
Yikes Ms P. I guess we will see ya in the spring after all that shit melts and heads down river!
-
One good thing about a winter storm ,and no power
you can just put your food on the back porch and nothing goes rotten !
So used to living through hurricanes in the south , took me a while to figure this out.
I have a great big cooler with legs and a built in bottle opener
has a new home next to my back door ! Empty out the freezer to the cooler,
and the legs keep it high enough to keep out the varmints.
All in All, life is good !
-
Buy the way Ms P
I grew up right over the bridge in Riverside.
Yup , I'm a South Jersey Boy.
Remember storms like this when I was a kid !
Long time ago ! Still had pay toilets in Macys . Had to pay a nickel
and no glory - holes !!

I'm not liking this one bit!! The latest report I saw was that we would be getting 22-30"!
I just got an automated call from our power company to be prepared for power outages. I can't ever remember getting one of those call EVER.
-

Oh, and the free BJ's refer to snow blowing for the record. 8)
-
Dang, I was going to tell a good story about getting home in the wee hours of the morning and not actually sleeping until the sun pissed us off. :)
-
The storms name is Juno.
I got one of those automated calls also , not a good sign !
7-14 " and high winds , 70 mph here
Snow blowing.......Hmmmm
-
I think only the Weather Channel names winter storms, it's not an official thing. Call it corporate media self-promotion. You won't see it on NOAA/NWS's information.
-
OH .............,
and I've learned the proper way to pronounce the event,
going to be a Blizzad
-
Think your right ! Ms P
never heard of winter names till past few years, and it was on TWC !
Call it a way to get everyone stirred up
-
Ha ha… my snow totals are getting lowered. Evidently there will be a quicker tapering off on the western side of the storm. So now I’m seeing 6-10” or 10-14” predictions depending on source.
But anything east of me is still getting screwed. Whew! might dodge a bullet (slightly) if it's less than a foot.
It's already snowing here lightly right now, "part one" of the storm before it goes offshore and strengthens this evening.
-
lordy, just saw how badly the East coast is supposed to be hit. Up to 3' in some areas. Totally envious. We only got about 4" and it's already stopped and moved east. We're in the snow belt for god's sake and we deserve more.

Have you stocked up on canned foods? Will you be checking up on your elderly neighbors? .....oh wait, you ARE the elderly neighbor, they should be checking on you.

I somehow doubt that the reptilian type of snake is what you are wearing leather chaps for.
-
LOL #fail -- 1PM NWS update raised the snow totals back up to what they were before they lowered them this morning. ::) :P
Basically they have no clue.
ps: I'm all prepped -- made a methadone run to the pharmacy at 10am so I'm fully stocked with 90 pills :-* and I also even managed to take a pair of new pants to be hemmed for my upcoming birthday trip to NYC next week.
Oh, and I picked up some fancy cheese ;)
Have you stocked up on canned foods?
Girl, you know I never buy canned items! There is no La Choy Chow Mein in the penthouse!
Are you still shoveling snow ?
yes :(
-
Not sure what happened here before the snow but there is a coating of ice underneath all the snow. I could barely get into the vehicle to warm it up in advance of my trek to the city. I suddenly like this big suv even less when you can't figure out how to scrape the windows that sit so far from the ground. Hoping by leaving it run for an hour does the trick.

I agree with DanO's assessment. lol.
And why are you playing with a cactus anyway?
--------
Well, it's been snowing lightly almost the entire day. So far 1/2"!
I've heard so many different snow totals that I can't keep track any longer. Anywhere from 15-36". I'm thinking at the very least we will see 20" but the wind is supposed to be between 50-60 mph for hours and that worries me more. If we lose power it could be days before we get it back. Our generator will keep the house heated, the fridge running, tv/internet (if we are lucky), and a few light bulbs so it could be worse. Getting up in the middle of the night to add more gas to the generator isn't fun either but at least I have Kenny to do that. ;)
It should start to really get wound up by midnight and continue to blast Granny til at least noonish with the heaviest of the wallop.
Good luck with the winds Bubba!!
Miss P should get at least 8-10". I hope she is not too disappointed.

Im going to have to go to dairy queen and have a blizzard so I wont feel left out .

Cute.^ I took a before picture. This high tech LP video stuff is just a modern miracle I tell you!
Our local station named the storm "Colbie". Too funny.
-
Yikes! I was just watching yet another local forecast and they are saying some of us may get 42"!
-
Yikes -- after this one hits you all up north, looks like I might be next. Miss P's favorite weather site (WxRisk) is calling for 12-16" in Richmond on Feb 1-2. This would rank up there with the most snow I've seen in my almost 15 years in Richmond
I'll watch this storm from afar (though my mother is in the middle of the 2+ feet area) and see if the next storm comes to fruition.
You all take care up there -- No fresh pictures from Mitch until the sun returns to Connecticut!!!

The Weather Channel is giving out WILDLY different information than National Weather Service is doing -- one of them is going to be not only seriously wrong but borderline negligent.
The lame thing about the Weather Channel is that they say one thing on TV, another on their web site, then link to NWS official projections and none line up. Mind you, for hurricanes they completely defer to NWS/NHC so I fail to understand why they do not do the same for a full-on blizzard.

You need to read his wording more carefully -- he never makes a forecast that far out, he presents what weather models are showing and discusses the variables. He never makes his own forecast until the system is 2-3 days out. Like any responsible meteorologist does.
With this current storm he was spotting it before it was being mentioned elsewhere, and his current forecasts in the past 24 hours have been very in line with NWS projections.

I did read it -- clearly anything a week out is "iffy" at best, but here is the lead into this post on the WxRisk Facebook page:
"**NOTIFICATION ** POSSIBLE SIGNIFICANT ( major ) WINTER STORM FEB 1-2 FOR MUCH VA as well as southern md ... northern / western NC"
He does go on to say all the things that would have be true for this scenario to come to light.
So.... yes, perhaps my use of the wording "calling for" was incorrect -- however, he is throwing it out as a potential.
Given the lack of any real winter weather down here -- I'll happily take it. I can hunker down and watch the Patriots beat the Seahawks whilst the snow accumulates.

Key word: POSSIBLE
-
Our local weather man (the one used by the Philadelphia Inquirer) just lowered his forecast map wildly to this:
... meanwhile the National Weather Service is still sticking to 10-18"
-
Wind is really starting to whip now,
will be surprised if we don't loose power , the snow is really wet.
going to get worse as the night goes on, think the worst is between 12-3 o'clock
Went down to the corner for chowder and a sandwich, couple drinks,
and a rusty nail for desert ! Had piled up quick since we went in. Let my dogs out when I got home, did their business and cane right back in ! No farting around.
The weather channel sucks ! Local radio weather has bee right on so far .
Think Mitch is getting hammered !
Long as no one drops a house on me , we'll be fine.
I want one of Jeff's blizzards ! Everyone be safe !!
-
I just can't stop thinking of clam chowder on the cape in the winter with an impending blizzard. The brisk windy ocean smell. Yumyum.
-
Windy winters in Wyoming are the main reason that people don't live here. HOWEVER, it was 65 degrees on Monday and the same is forecast for today. People were walking their dogs in shorts. ;D
-
Looks like we got about 20" so far and it's still coming down heavy.
No power loss. Yay!
-
They completely busted the forecast for Philadelphia and almost all of New Jersey. It snowed a lot, but hardly anything accumulated. I've not gone outside yet to shovel but I'd be surprised if it's two inches here.
The NWS claims on twitter to have adjusted the forecast at 10PM to show the corrected amounts. Which is a lie because the mayor at 10PM said the latest NWS was still showing a "revised" 6-10 inches of snow and blah blah blah this and that would be closed.
OK...
At least my fridge is fully stocked with food.
-
We got about 10" so far , and wind has died down considerably
snow is wet and heavy ..it's 36 and I think there's rain mixed in, going to be 40 by Friday
We still have power too !!
-
Official Philadelphia snow totals as of 10:30am EST: 1.2"
#win
Do I even need to bother shoveling?

That insane Mark ... I am jealous .
-
I wish we would get that much snow. I still have my huge fire pit ready for a huge snowfall. I love spending time building a fort around it several feet high then lighting a fire. With a Built in cooler for your beverages.
-
Still snowing on the Cape ! Cars are still not aloud
on the road in eastern Ma. Blizzard warnings extended till 8:00 tonight
grateful to still have power .
-
Mine was far easier to deal with :P

Just the joys of ice salt.

Just fished shoveling. Kenny did the bulk of it with the snowblower and helped with the walkways. I did my best in three 20 minute spans. It was a lot of snow but luckily it was light powder. Still exhausted.lol.
I slightly overestimated the amount. Our official total was 19" so this doesn't compare with the 36" we got last winter.
-
Good for You !!
mine is not light powder, and is still coming down,
although not accumulating to much more.
but the wind is still fucking HOWLING !
will shovel tomorrow

Thanks Mitch !
Didn't loose power, now time to clean up
We got lots of snow !

We will rebuild.

Damn Willy, did they shut down the state because of the horrific weather? :)
We didn't get much snow but are enjoying our below zero windchills.
-
Think we got about 20"
just finished shoveling,
one of my neighbors has a Backhoe and did the dirt roads.
I got stuck in a snow drift up to my waist,
had to crawl out like a slug, good thing I had my shovel to help pull me out !
only 5'4" but still..... lot of snow !

We had a horrific coating of thick ice on everything this morning. I didn't even realize we were supposed to get freezing rain. After spending about 20 minutes breaking into my vehicle to head to work at 4:00 am, I was met with a click click click. A damn dead battery.
I hadn't started my 31 year old chevy truck for a while and was sure it would be in vain. Unfortunately, it fired right up. So I had to spend 45 minutes removing all the snow and ice off of it.

Well THAT sounds like a fun morning. When living in Minnesota during my senior high school year I had a VW Bug. It never failed to start up. The problem was that I had to scrape the INSIDE of the windshield most of the winter and wire open the heat from underneath the car. It didn't seem to make much difference.
Other winter news... Our kitchen window today:

Yup ,another load of shit here too !
hopefully it will be dry snow this time , much easier to clean up.
got up to 40 yesterday ,and some melted, then got a light dusting this morning.
Any one else notice the metal parts in your body get cold ?
I was shoveling snow the other day my knees started to ache bad
thought I pushed them lifting the heavy snow, but
I think both knees froze ! they stopped hurting after I warmed up.
This has happened before but not as bad ,forgot to ask the ortho doc about it.

They keeping edging this next storm further north Philly's possibly just going to see sleet/freezing rain. At least that's my bet when the next big forecast comes out in a few hours or at least before I go to bed.
-
It looked like we were going to get hit tomorrow, but all the data says it will be Indy and to the north. I have been wanting a good snow-- nice snow and not blizzard. Our latest good snow has come in March a few times, so there's still time.

Going to get snow then rain, then snow = ice.. SHIT !!
calling for 2-4" here
looking like 4- 6" for Mitch , weather people are all giving different numbers,
I like these the best.
and Jeff...He's lying awake nights thinking up snow chicken recipes..

Hey init
you forgot the vodka !!

lol I still have lots of rum I brought back from my cruise.. care to join me in a few drinks?

Sure ! is the Snow Monkey coming ?
-
No snow here, just rain. they never get the weather right in the Ozark foothills .. might as well go out side and see be better then watching on tv..
-
:o I have never had someone call it a snow monkey before. but I guess after a few drinks it might be cumming.. ;)
-
Yep, forecasts now showing me only getting rain now. Starts with an hour or two of non-accumulating snow, then by midnight the temperature goes up to 35F and higher throughout the night giving us just rain.
-
Well, we're getting 12-16 inches of snow here. Already have about a foot. I've shoveled twice. The temp has dropped 10 degrees since this morning and we're supposed to have 40mph winds. Ick!
-
That sounds dreadful. We've practically had a drought all winter, at least of snow. I think our total has been 4" only half of which amounted to ground accumulation.
-
Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow, predicts #SixMoreWeeksofWinter
-
Well... we got 3-4" overnight, a long period of light freezing rain and then a switch back to snow. It's still coming down heavy. About 8" so far and mounting. Cleanup tomorrow will be in the minus teens with the windchill.
It's so nice to have another layer on our already fluffy yard. :P
More chances for the fluff later in the week. Yay! :(

this has been an absolutely crazy storm. We were expecting up to 14" of snow. Greg left yesterday morning as he was worried if he could make it to the bank this morning.
They were closing shit left and right in preparation for this storm.
We got a mere dusting. Most of what we got was rain since it was so damn warm out.
Mark, I'm so jealous. I so want a storm like that. beautiful!!!!
-
I like fluffy yard pics .
-
I have a crunchy yard !
we started with flurries yesterday
then rain all day. Yahoo !!!
melted a lot of the snow, bad thing is it froze last night
you could ice skate all the way to the bay
Probably break your ass doing it though

We got over a foot of snow between Saturday night/Sunday. Then last evening we got a couple more inches. I'm over it at this point because of the shoveling. We have an electric shovel which helps, but it is very heavy. I'm ready for spring and often wonder why I still live in this area lol.

Are you really shoveling snow ? ... bad woman ;)

Rain is North of us right now, so we got to get moving, to get that 2 mile walk in today.
30 % chance to day, and 80% tomorrow... This is supposed to be the dry season, but we seem to be getting our share of rain.

So there's a polar vortex arriving this evening and by the morning it will be 12F, then a second front arrives Sunday night/Monday morning and we'll go to 4F (with -23F wind chills). Really not featuring that last one since I have an 11am doctor's appointment on Monday.
We will not see a high again of +40F for another 10 days :(
-
Even colder here with the possibility of another big storm this weekend. Boston may get the brunt of it.... again. :P
-
There's mention of possible 2/16-17 Mid-Atlantic ice/snow storm down here but that's still far off and will change surely. We've still escaped with only 5" all season so far.
-
We're having perfect midwestern weather. It snows then gets warm enough to stroll around. I've been walking like crazy since I've not had the ability for a while now. I had several people I know(small ass community) stop and ask if I needed a ride. NO, I"m working off the holiday pounds and I love walking. ;D
Seriously, I love this time of the year when it's not so horribly hot that I can't function
-
We've gotten over 60" of snow so far this winter. This weekend it's supposed to be even more frigid than it is right now (it's 6F), with a low Monday of-9F.
Winter is dragging on....
-
I feel really bad for Boston -- they're getting ANOTHER huge blizzard Sunday morning: 70mph winds, 10 inches of snow. Blizzard watches up from Nantucket north to the Canadian border.
Looks like Mark will get 4-8" :D
I'm scraping by with 1"
-
The latest local weather report says we will probably get between 3-6" Saturday into Sunday. By Monday and Tuesday night the temps will be around -7 and -25 with the windchill!! I can't even remember when was the last time we've seen that here.
Normally I would worry about my precious garden but since we have had about 35" of snow that barely had a chance to melt I think the "snow insulation" will keep much of it safe.
Meanwhile Wumpella is basking in warmth and battling the cactuses that he claims are so dangerous. Does he use a lasso? Dunno.
oh, and the storm later in the week could be a doozy... or not.
-
M, your forecast sounds exactly like ours. We're under a winter storm warning starting tomorrow at 7am through Sunday. It's lake effect snow. Wind gusts up to 40mph, temperatures in the negatives. I'm going to try to,fashion a better kitty shelter so the kitty (or kitties) can somewhat stay out of the frigid temps.

Are you taking care of strays? :-\ :'(

There is a possibility for freezing rain here sunday night monday morning, if that happens we will lose power . It’s gods wrath for all these Alabamy gay weddings .
-
Are you taking care of strays? :-\ :'(
Yes. One was here first and has his own box under our porch. I bought him a warmer so he can stay somewhat warm. The other cat came later and he sleeps in the igloo with straw in it.

At this point I'm gonna call your snow monkey for a good time 😬

It's frigid out with wind chills at -20F. At least the winds have died down for the most part. Yesterday was so nasty I couldn't even stand to smoke (which I do outside).
At least the cats are taken care of. I had bought a "warmer"on Amazon a couple months ago and it's been invaluable. I put it in the microwave for 4 & 1/2 minutes and it stays warm for about 4-5 hours. The cats love to curl up on it inside the box.

-
Same here. We've had winds up to 55mph at the airport and tonight into the morning we may break our 1888 record and go to 0F with -25 wind chills.
What sucks is I have an 11am doctor appointment which involves a mile of walking (1/2 mile each way from the subway station). Not looking forward to that.
Then more snow coming on Tuesday, though we only got 1.5" last night so basically nothing.
-
Blizzard is winding down here,
We had 75 mile per hour winds all morning
Ended up 6" bad , but still blowing around
Poor Boston & urbs got hammered again 😏
Betty, sometimes you can get small insulated
Boxes from the shelters for the stray kitties
I take all my old towels and blankets in for the
Critters at the pound.
Love to hear people taking the time for strays !
-
if it makes y'all feel any better we are gona get 8 to 12 inches of snow tonight. it is sleeting now.. should close us down for a good week lol
-
Looks like central Kentucky is going to get hammered with this upcoming storm. Philly's getting 5-8" per NWS warning, higher amounts south of here in DC/Baltimore. Ours doesn't arrive until early Tuesday morning I believe.
Huge amount of winter storm warnings up on NWS's site. http://www.weather.gov/
-
Latest forecasts show Louisville getting 8-12 inches, with up to 15 inches south. Even a foot on the KY/TN line. Bitter cold temps for the week, so the snow won't be going anywhere. This has shifted north, with southern Indiana getting up to 8 inches.
Louisville should be able to handle this. Farther south, I imagine they will have huge problems. I just hope the power stays on. It flickered earlier, due to the high winds.
-
8)
Currently 71 degrees outside. It was a fantastic day today ! STAY WARM !
Monday and Tuesday still look good, then the rest of the week will be " Bitterly 8) Cold "
Oh yes,, we have the windows open right now ! ;D

I think the people in the warmer states don't need to be posting in this winter thread. They clearly don't know what winter is and wind chill below 0 :P ... LOL and I clearly need to move somewhere warm! Maybe I will hunt for me a sugar daddy from a warmer state! ;D
-
I was hoping we were going to avoid winter altogether in Northwest Arkansas, but no luck. We finally got hit last night. Its -7c now and we got about 10cm last night. Not nearly as much as some northern states but enough to shut everything down until we can get our hair dryers out and clear the streets. ;)
-
Areobe I'm just north of you and we have 6 inches already and it is still coming down. but I believe y'all got ice first then snow right?
-
Well.... I haven't got outside to look underneath and see if there is ice. You might be right :) Are you in Missouri?
-
Yes for a few more weeks
-
3F at 7am when I woke up, and now I'm reading we'll go to 1F Friday morning. Still on track for ~6 inches of snow tonight/tomorrow, though one model evidently is shifting the storm 50 miles further south so I might only get 2 inches. :P
For extra credit the Mount Washington Observatory in New Hampshire recorded a wind gust of 141mph yesterday. :-X
-
yep.. thats beyond cold 8)
Never been to New Hampshire. Seems like I'd be blown away if I did.
-
Richmond is expecting 8-12". Our first measurable snow of the season. Should start late this afternoon and end tomorrow morning. My mother is leaving RI to come visit tomorrow -- bringing the damned snow south with her!!
The grocery stores are being overrun, as I speak
Oh well -- Sid and I head to New Orleans on Thursday, then onto a cruise ship on Saturday -- goodbye winter -- for a little while anyway.
-
I guess we have at least 8 inches. I will have to measure. They just cancelled school for tomorrow. The plows are having a hard time keeping up and the salt stuff doesn't work as well in these temps. Plus, we have all those suburban neighborhoods and even rural areas. You drive 20 miles out of the city and there is farmland.
I imagine school will be out just about all week. Even if the snow gets under control, they are calling for air temps of NEGATIVE 10 later in the week, with wind chills of -20 to -25. Time for a tropical getaway. I love the snow, but not the cold.
-
We had complete white outs two days ago with snow emergencies issued, so no one was supposed to be on the road anyway.
It's 4F right now and will be colder than hell for at least the next two weeks. I need to move to a warmer state also Init. If you find a sugar daddy, see if he has a brother, or sister.
By the way, we have about two feet of snow.
Betty

8) I don't have a winter wonderland of snowfall to show you all, but today Ed and I went to A. L. Anderson Park. This park is about 4 miles north of us, and on Lake Tarpon. It a great park to walk in, as it has a little bit of hill to it, and you really feel the burn in the legs
http://www.pinellascounty.org/park/01_anderson.htm
So, We got a good walk in today !! Lots of families were out, there were some flying kites today.
Also took some pictures ! Enjoy !

Florida looks nice about now. I will be sure to not molest the alligators though, when I visit. Mother-in-law just posted sunny pics of their home north of Fort Myers. It is going to get chilly down there and lows around 35.

still snowing here -- supposedly downtown Philadelphia has about 5 inches of snow. Believe it or not this is our first snow event over 1.5" this season. Still wretchedly cold though at 16F and we will not have a high temp during the day above freezing until Sunday.
I have a friend who owns a house and all of their pipes froze yesterday.

ugh... NWS has now forecast us to go down to -1F Friday night/Sat morning. They keep lowering it. I'm not even sure if I've ever experienced that sort of temperature.

Its going down to 11 tonight here in Bama … I will have to run water tonight or the pipes will freeze .

You got that right Mitchend !
I'd send pics of some big ass snow piles if I knew how
Spring is on the way , I hope ! no big storms in the forecast

I love docudramas . I was laughing this morning at the news, they did news report on how a woman’s patio table was covered with a dusting of snow this morning and then they cut to 3 different live locations near the interstate where the reporters reported there were no problems … and that was followed by the news Miss P had won best in show .

I'm afraid to ask what happened. I'm so sorry. :'(
-
I will spare the details but he went across the road and a boxer killed him. and the boxer was tied to his own yard . Copper was on his turf...
-
I should add I love boxers and I had many growing up as my parents raised them. This one is most the time very friendly so not sure why he did what he did.
-
I will spare the details but he went across the road and a boxer killed him. and the boxer was tied to his own yard . Copper was on his turf...
Sorry to hear about the loss of your dog. The "tied" part stuck out to me. Is the boxer tied up most of or all day? When I see this, the dogs are not socialized and barely get any attention. They often wait around for food and water, so that makes them very territorial. So, they see a dog walking freely and I imagine it threatens them. Of course, I don't know the situation, but the tied up part may explain so much.
-
So sorry to hear about Cooper! I love boxers and was really disheartened that one would do this. I always thought they were friendly, good family dogs.
-
Ted you might be right.. The boxer is tied outside 24/7 only time he is lose is when he breaks a chain . either way the other family feels bad about this too. I kept trying to get to copper and the boxer just kept jumping on him so he couldn't get up I tried and tried even fell and hurt my back again over this.. something I will never forget watching copper hollering for help and me not being able to get to him. I have another 16 yr old little dog I will make sure she never goes up there as one bite from him she would be gone!

No molesting them? Well damn...was really wanting to fondle some gators.
-
We hit a record low/high today. Whoot!!! we hit 4 but it's quickly dropping. It was -12 this morning when I left work without the windchill. And of course, I needed fuel. I debated on waiting but I always start to panic when it's on 1/4 tank. So I stood there in the freezing cold hoping it'd be quick.
Even this winter luving fool is getting tired of this bitter cold not to mention the ridiculous heating bills. I do a little cringe every time I hear that money soaking furnace kick on. My heat bill last March was $660 so I have to wait and see.
OH, and I have one damn frozen line again. The master bathroom toilet has frozen twice so far this year but didn't last year at all. Fortunately, when they built this place, all the water lines were installed next to the heat ducts but the ducts stop short so there's only a few feet where this line doesn't rest next to heat. I gutted that room and insulated overboard but will need to figure out how to prevent it next year.
-
The windchill is-25F and there's like 3 feet of snow in my front yard. So tired of this.
-
Betty I'm with you so tired of this -14 with wind chill today. tomorrow and through Sunday we will be getting it all . starting with snow changing to freezing rain back to rain then snow again.. plus maybe some flooding. only thing we are missing will be a tornado. but you never know that might happen as they are calling for strong thunder storms sat lol... a nice sunny warm beach sounds great about now!
-
We just hit 2F, -20 wind chill. Praise!
-
9 here , wind chill below zero
Tomorrow 36 , Sunday mid 40s
Maybe some of this snow will go away
Bad thing is it will freeze over night 😗
-
NWS has a lot of new winter storm warnings/advisories up: Ohio River Valley and points south, then moving into the Northeast the next day
http://www.weather.gov
I think a lot of it starts as snow, changes to ice, then ends as rain -- I'm due 2-3" of snow before it turns into rain at midnight Saturday. Should be wonderfully messy. I really hope this is the last breath of winter because accuweather is showing normal temps as soon as March arrives.
-
Supposedly, we're expecting our most significant snow fall of the season over this weekend.
I'll have to head out this frigid cold to pick up a load of firewood. Only have a few days worth left and need to be prepared. I too am finally getting tired of this frigidness.

We got down to 35 degrees this morning ! We really had to hunker down last night :P This has been the coldest day so far this winter for us.
The Dunedin, Florida Mardi Gras was cancelled on Tuesday due to a steady rain that was going through the area, But has been rescheduled for tonight. We're still debating on whether to go or not. Dunedin is next door to Palm Harbor.

NWS and local forecasters have upped our snow forecast for Saturday afternoon: now 4-6 inches before changing over to rain, followed by another deep freeze Sunday night and plummeting to 5F Monday night/Tuesday morning.

It's really hard to be optimistic these days with the weather but with that said...
Daylight Savings time is only 16 days away. Yay!
ps- our current sunset is at 5:30.
-
Someone call General Sherman! Radar is showing snow south of Atlanta!
-
It was 78 here today. I went out in Jeans. I think I may have some heat rash going on in the groin area.
The struggle is real people, the struggle is real.

It's really hard to be optimistic these days with the weather but with that said...
Daylight Savings time is only 16 days away. Yay!
ps- our current sunset is at 5:30.
I didn't realize DST was coming in just two weeks. Sunset here is 6:27pm-- tail end of Eastern. I wish they would just change it, so we don't fall back.
Weather-- We've gotten more snow than Indy, so far. Our average is 12 inches. Last year we got 25 inches. This year, we got Halloween snow, thanksgiving snow, and then a few inches on January 23. This week, we got 7 inches officially on the big storm, but up to 11 inches in the suburbs. Then, we got 2-4 inches more depending on where you live in the county. Tonight, we are expecting anywhere up to 10 inches. It is tricky, because freezing rain may come, depending on if we get the warmer air in the city. School was out all week.
-
NWS be playing games again -- revising up, then down, then up, then down... now we're back down to 2-3" of snow for this afternoon. Our local forecaster still has us at 4-6".
-
It's going to be in the 20's today. HEAT WAVE! But then next week arctic air returns, with the high Monday only 9F. Why do I live here?
Betty
-
it is an icy mess here this morning sleet and freezing rain all night looks like an ice skating rink out here... but least it is suppose to warm up in a few hours so it will turn to all rain places are already flooding.. lol time for some sun and warm. and Willy I do not feel one bit sorry for your heat rash! anyway y'all I will be off line for a few weeks moving as soon as the weather gets better. I will catch y'all after the move stay warm and safe love y'all!

I won't be surprised if we get 6" on snow with little turn over to rain. It's been coming down hard for six hours already and it's still 25F. They're still saying it will change to rain by midnight.
I'm wondering though if it does that and then rains for 7-8 hours how much shoveling I'll have left in the morning, or if I should go outside and shovel some before going to bed.
Decisions, decisions...

Shovel now! That snow isn't going to get any lighter at daybreak. I think we are expected to get about the same but I've got "Snowblower Kenny".
Meanwhile, this is going to most likely be the coldest month on record here. I know what you are saying Jeff. Time for SoCal.
Even Gai Pan hates it. He somehow found his own way today to tuck himself in. lol.

btw- where has Michael been lately?
-
I don't know where Michael has been, I hope he's okay.
There's been a few records here due to the arctic freeze. Today it got up to 30F and someone actually wore shorts. But, Monday it's going to be a high of 9F.

I still think you will win the prize again for the worst weather in this here thread. :( :( :'( :-*

GETTING ALL RAIN !!! & temp is above freezing
supposed to be rain tomorrow too.... He Haw !
Hope it follows suit for all us snow goers
Bye Bye big dirty snow piles !!!
It will freeze sunday night though , Bummer
-
Oh Willy,
don't wear that !!
better to have a rash ,
that's just plain wrong , are they held up with Velcro ?
and init ...., what exactly are you packing to come across such things ?
You Go Girl !!!
-
Glad I didn't go out and shovel last night. We had 5" of snow which turned to sleet at 10pm and rain at midnight, so by this morning we were down to maybe a few inches of slush. Right now it's 43F so I went outside and it took me about 3 minutes to scoop the slush to one side and throw down some salt.
-
Michael has been walking in Bowland Forest , Lancashire .
Now back laying down freezing in London . Mean nasty slap face wind flowing over Clapham Common this am so dogs walk curtailed lots off silly fools playing Sunday Football ( soccer ) time I got home tottering like a drunk . Cold buggers my neuropathies and balance flounces off..
-
We ended up getting 9" and it's absolutely beautiful if viewing it from inside, sitting next to a fire. :) We're still breaking record low temps. It's down right frigid...brr
I've had to work quite a bit because of the weather and my close proximity. It's only 3 miles away but treacherous. Saturday morning, I had to drive in 4 wheel low the entire way as no plows had even been out yet. I couldn't see the road and half the drive is along a huge ravine with no guardrails.
I'm ever so grateful that I got a 4x4 recently as there is no way either of my rear wheel drive pick ups would have fared very well.

THE SOUTH SHALL RISE AGAIN! (this is wildly different than what the NWS is projecting for tomorrow so you better hope they are right. NWS totals are half this or less)
-
We are supposed to get up to 4 inches of snow and I haven't even bought bread or milk yet .
-

Lol. Are you really supposed to get snow?
-
Lol. Are you really supposed to get snow?
Yep ... they are saying its a sure thing but that was last time I checked this morning . We were supposed to get ice on the roads this morning so the schools and my clinic I had an appointment at opened 2 hours late ... but no ice . We shall see if the snow really comes .
-
From what I am seeing from the meteorologists I follow on FB the forecast models are strengthening, but mostly in the are from NE Georgia up to Norfolk, VA. After that it just goes out to sea so it will not be coming up the coast and bothering me :)
Raleigh, NC up to Norfolk, VA will get the highest amounts.
NWS definitely is already saying 2-5" for B'ham.
-
Well Jeff, did you get snow? I imagine if you do everything will be closed tomorrow.
It's just the terrible arctic temps here. It's so cold the snow is frozen and the deer are able to cross the private spring fed lake which our neighbors said never freezes. Lol.
Betty
-
Its a balmy 42 out right now, the snow is supposed to start in the morning here .

Betty
I've heard of the Connecticut River freezing solid before but have never seen it this bad. A neighbor posted a video on FB showing a guy driving a large pickup truck on the river. They said the ice measured 18" thick. :o

I want to see a Alabama snowman. I just know your imagination will create something worth a look. 8)

Everything's frozen here too !
The dirt roads have been frozen for weeks
Just got 3 more inches last night !
-
... and so it begins. Ice and snow in East Texas (http://www.accuweather.com/en/us/southeast-region/weather-radar?play=1)! Batten down the hatches!
-
The NAM model updated this morning has the low going slightly further north by the time it reaches NC/VA. FYI & IIRC with the NAM model these totals are maximum possibilities and guidance, not a forecast.
This is also a very wet, heavy snowfall -- not light and powdery. So that means A LOT of power outages in areas hit very hard.

Heading up to Mount Vernon to help Greg pack. In the middle of the night, the main water line for his complex ruptured. It happened in the wall of his main closet and it flooded the entire apartment. He couldn't get hold of maintenance for several hours and it continually spewed water. They're moving him to another apartment but who in the hell enjoys moving in the freezing cold? But, not much to do but just do it.
So yeah, I'm now offically tired of this bitter cold.
-
I bet we get some ice and flurries here ... the whole town is shut down in anticipation of 2 inches of snow that was not remotely a certain thing .

The story of my life … I’m only getting 3 inches .
-
I'm ecstatic to report that in 10 days (March 7th) our forecast is for 50F. We've not been in the 50's since January 5th.
-
The story of my life … I’m only getting 3 inches .
Did you get out there and make me a snowman?
Sorry about the 3". You may need to move north but I've never been able to figure out how to handle 40".
---
And Greg, that really sucks! Hope there wasn't much damage done. Ugh.
Wumpy, I don't even know what to say about your dire situation other than maybe wearing electric socks. Best wishes getting through this!! Maybe Betty could give you a few more tips?
-
We only have a cold rain … wha wha whaaaa waw .
-
NWS has now put up winter storm watches up for the 3 most southern counties in New Jersey so I'll just be missing any snow by a mere 40 miles.
-
OH MY GOD, my yard has almost a quarter inch of snow in it and I have no bread or milk .
-
As for tips, stay in and under the electric blanket!
Our local weather is supposedly in the path of some upcoming snow event. We're supposed to get "several more inches" this Sunday. Hello, we already have over two feet! I wonder if we're ever going to have spring. And oh, our temps are supposedly going to be below 0F the next few nights.
Jeff, you wanted snow didn't you? I swear you had mentioned that. Did you get more snow than what was in that picture you texted me?
-
Jeff, you wanted snow didn't you? I swear you had mentioned that. Did you get more snow than what was in that picture you texted me?
We only got a dusting here last night and it almost gone now .
-
---
And Greg, that really sucks! Hope there wasn't much damage done. Ugh.
We worked our asses off. I don't think I've ever been this sore. They only had a 3rd floor apartment available which meant we had to schlep everything up 3 flights of stairs. UGH!!!!
After about 8 hours, the complex manager stopped by to check on our progress. She actually had the nerve to ask if we'd be done last night as they need to get to work on the damage. I looked right at her and asked "REALLY?" The other Greg is much nicer than I am and even asked if we could have a couple of days since we both work. She said she supposed that was alright but would appreciate if we could get it done quickly.
Thank goodness I forgot to bring my evening meds and decided to come home as I was also exhausted and sweaty. I walk in and it was freezing in here. Some how, the damn furnace pilot light went out. Had I spent the night, I'd probably be dealing with frozen lines myself.
So yuckity yuck, it was an awful day except it showed us how well we work together and handle bad situations.
-
Greg, at least you can find the good in situations. It sucks to move in the winter. I did it at my last apartment and swore I would never do it again. I feel for you!
-
Me too!
Not moving out of here anytime just soon ,unless feet first .
Snowing here again now,sneak attack.
Only 2-4" but it sucks ,I have An hour drive to an eye appointment at 3:00
Yuk !!!
-
What would have previously annoyed me was actually par for the course yesterday. Kept telling him I wanted to head about before dark as I get confused. Didn't happen and I was lost like hell. I used 3/4 of a tank of gas to get home.
The sun is shining brightly today but it's a trick. It's still colder than heck out there.
-
Another day, another winter storm warning -- on NWS's weather.gov the warnings stretch from central Texas to Boston. And from Boston down to South Carolina. Oddly all I am predicted to see is 1-2" of snow topped with 0.1" of ice followed by rain and a high of 41F tomorrow to melt it all away.
Big whoop.
Unfortunately I can't say that this is the last of the season as they're also showing snow/sleet on Tuesday and Thursday.
-
Me ! Kenny & Betty will be shoveling again tomorrow .......
-
Oh I'll probably go out at some point today. Our deck outside the living room needs to be cleared so we can fill up the bird feeder. We broke a record for the snowiest February.
Betty

I've been to some uber gay bed & breakfast inns around New England and the best ones don't know they are so camp and aren't targeting gays. Just get a lady innkeeper with mega-OCD frou-frou taste and you're good to go. Course that was the 80's and 90's.
As for gay on purpose, The Belvedere on Fire Island is easily in the Top 10, no?
http://belvederefireisland.com
I'm sure there are some staggeringly gay camp fests on the Black Sea, and in Greece.
-
There are still quite a few B&Bs on the outer Cape,
Some stay open all winter especially in P Town.
Think I had brunch at the Belvedere ..?
It was in September and I remember a mad rush for the ferry.

Winter in Miami while usually dry can have a bit of rain at times... This was that "bit" of rain we got yesterday....
Downtown Miami:
And, after I swam to my car, this was the view from the driver's side seat at the parking lot --- notice the formation of South Florida's newest geyser...
But, made it to see Jody and have a great time (not a winning time, but a great time) at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood...
Jody sends his best to everyone - And, probably didn't want me to tell all of you suffering the Winter of 2015 up North that he is getting ready to take a swim in the pool at the B&B he is staying at.... Can't blame him for wanting to get a swim in as it is 80 degrees and just a bit humid here.
-
You Go Boys !
Enjoy those 80s ,
Happy for ya !
Wade
-
Another 6" of snow expected here. :P
March better go out like a lamb!
-
Us too !
Wet, heavy, sloppy shit .....
the bay is frozen and white ,with big buckled up cracks ,
from the tide going in and out.
Looks like the moon .
-
Oh I'll probably go out at some point today. Our deck outside the living room needs to be cleared so we can fill up the bird feeder. We broke a record for the snowiest February.
Betty
We broke a record for the coldest February on record. I'm ever so fortunate that I discovered my broken heat ducts when I did. For this period last year, my heat bill for one month was $660 and it wasn't as cold. Was quite happy to receive my bill and see it only be $180.
And now that we're expecting a warming trend, they're calling for mass flooding. We already sit in a valley below lake level and have a difficult time getting rid of ground water.
-
As of now, it looks like we are going to see a repeat of the snow storm from 2 weeks ago. Six of seven models show significant snow for Louisville on Wednesday, ranging from 4-12 inches. The snow is just now finally melting from the sunny places. The dogs have their pooping areas back. Our little Puggy doesn't like his junk in the snow.
Oh, suppose to be 60 degrees tomorrow on Tuesday.

6 inches got above your junk? ;) You are hanging low. No, you guys have had like 60 inches this winter?
-
6 inches got above your junk? ;) You are hanging low. No, you guys have had like 60 inches this winter?
lol.
I think we have had about 50" so far and it's all still there but compacted a bit. Rain expected on Wednesday. I want it all melted by the time we return from our venture to Palm Springs to check out our possible new digs in a year or most likely two.
Can't wait to escape!
-
I hope everyone realizes yet another big storm is coming: Wednesday afternoon through Thursday. I've seen predictions for DC to NYC for 8 inches, and up to 12 inches in the Ohio River area (Louisville to Pittsburgh). New England is getting off easy this time with perhaps only 4-8".
edit: never mind I see this has been discussed :-X
-
this is just SO unfair -- I hope these models are not right
(http://i62.tinypic.com/31613z4.jpg)

Your going to have to do more than pee out your window
to get rid of that mess !
Think we are to receive only a dusting 1-2 "
-

You have had it pretty easy this winter as far as snow goes. We had 6" yesterday, 2" more expected tonight, and 4-8" more tomorrow night. That should bring us up to around 60". Fair? Hmmm..... lol.
Here is our igloo birdhouse. Baby it's cold outside!

-
Cool !
Love your porch !
We had all rain and 40 today .
-
NWS updated forecast -- I suppose I can live with this. However our local newspaper meteorologist is saying 4-6" and higher totals to the south.
My parents in northern Virginia actually have it worse with 6-10"
-
Glad to hear you are not getting buried MP. Even more glad that we will not see too much ourselves.
Thanks Wade. I love the porches too, until it comes to painting.
So... I just went out to check for mail and someone or something stole his carrot nose! No where to be found. ???
-
Not getting buried but supposedly this will NOT be a light powdery snow, but a heavy wet one. We were supposed to change over from rain to snow at 1am but evidently it didn't happen until 6am, but everyone is still sticking to their 4-8" forecast. Maybe I will go out and shovel half way through the event so that it will be easier on my back.
-
Maybe I will go out and shovel half way through the event so that it will be easier on my back.
Good idea. Yesterday I shoveled 1" of slushy snow and today my neck is killing me.
In other news...
Frosty lives to see another day. >:( :'(

Frosty got a fat ass like Kim K.
-
LOL !
-
Going to go out in a little bit and shovel some too.
Not supposed to get a lot ,about 4"
Hey Mitch , thought Kenny was the snowblower !
Poor Kenny has had a rough go of it this winter.

That's what we got and it's horrible. Once the temps dropped, the roads were like a skating ring. Heading home from this work this morning was a bit terrifying. Even with 4 wheel drive, I could barely maintain control even driving at 15mph. We don't go into ditches, we roll down ravines.... :o
But we're hitting 60 this coming week.
-
I got rid of my Toyota pick up after the first blizzard,
Had front wheel dr. It was old ,stick shift, but I loved driving it. Came in handy too! But was horrible in the snow.
Ended up with a Honda CRV
with AWD or I wouldn't be going no place !
the main roads stay cleared, but the back road are an icy mess
The snow needs to stop !
-
I just went out and did some shoveling. There was at least six inches already and now they're saying we will have 8-11 inches by the time it ends at 8PM.
-
Frosty got a fat ass like Kim K.
Hopefully that fat ass won't be around long.
Hey Mitch , thought Kenny was the snowblower !
Poor Kenny has had a rough go of it this winter.
It was too little to drag the thing out. And yes, Kenny has had a rough winter but I think he secretly enjoys it. Works for me. :)

Is this your biggest snowfall of the winter?
-
Is this your biggest snowfall of the winter?
Yes. But I've not seen what our official total is yet.
edit: 6.5-8.5" depending on which part of the city. I'm probably in the middle so 7.5"
-
I will also add that today's snow put us over our annual average of 22". We're now at 23.3" winter-to-date. :P
-
I will never look a a snowman the same ever again.....
We got 12" today !!
Some ocean affect horse shit !
-
We got about 14.5 inches at my house. Highest was about 25". First time since 1978, we've gotten two winter storms more than 8". Going down to -10 tonight or lower. Climate Change is a hoax. I mean, how could there be snow, if it was real? ;)
The dogs wanted us to clear a path this morning. Here's Brian making a bathroom.

Worst winter on the cape since the 70s too !
This was an under estimamated big dump today .
I shoveled out a doggy toilet late this afternoon ,and Olivia climbed up
On a snow pile and pooped ! Go figure...
I'd post a pic but don't know how to use the photo bucket !
-
Are the fish in the pond now ?
-
I will also add that today's snow put us over our annual average of 22". We're now at 23.3" winter-to-date. :P
Oh my! I hope you were kidding. 1.3" above normal on March 5th? You crack me up. :-*
-
Y’all are ungrateful of gods fluffy bounty .
-
Are the fish in the pond now ?
Yep. Koi and Goldfish are cold water tolerant. They just need at least 18 inches depth here. They have been swimming around more the last month. Can't feed them until the water temp is 50 degrees, though.
-
This is magical! From this afternoon through the foreseeable future (OK, well 10 day forecast) not only will we have absolutely no low overnight temperatures below freezing, our daytime highs will all be +50F except for next Friday (44F). We may even reach 60F on Wednesday.
Of course I really shouldn't find this exciting because all it represents is a return to historical averages for this time of year (highs of 51F, lows of 33F).
-
We are still a little cooler here, but above freezing also,
Most important no snow in our 10 day forecast !
Time for a Spring thread...
-
There is still 3 feet of snow here and we are about to say goodbye to it all to scope out Palm Springs for a possible relocation down the road. (probably 18 months) I hope that I/we won't be disappointed but who knows.
Anyway, so long sub-freezing temps, so long icicles hanging out our kitchen window, so long Frosty, so long snow shovel. Hope to not see you all until at least December!! I doubt all of the snow will be gone by the time we return but one can hope anyway.
Palm Springs forecast calls for sunny days and temps between 85-90F. Just the therapy needed about now. :)
-
Have a safe trip
warm up and ,
Have A Great Time !
Wade
-
Thanks for the send off Wade.
A friend told me he would make sure the snow was gone in our yard with his hair dryer.
-
Final send off to winter! Spring arrives today at 6:45PM.
And it's 36F right now at 6am. I can see the storm nearing on radar and it's snowing as far south as my parent's in northern Virginia, but rain south of that. On the plus side it will be +50F tomorrow so it will melt quickly.
-
Think this ones going to miss us,
Thank Christ, I like seeing some ground,
Still have plenty to melt !
-
How much snow is Miss P getting?
-
About 2 hours ago the airport reading was at one inch but it's been snowing since around 7am. It only began to stick to the pavement in the past hour though, and I think it's supposed to stop around 6pm. More of a nuisance event here downtown but I know in the western suburbs the totals are more like 4 inches already.
-
Official count at the airport today was 2.2" of snow though in Media, PA a mere 13 miles directly west of me scored 6.1"
-
Well.... So much for seeing the ground.
We got another inch last night , getting a rain mix now,
hopefully it will melt before it freezes!
-
I've been so busy (and tuckered) since we got back that weather has been the last thing I have been paying attention to... UNTIL NOW!
Another 1-3" of snow tomorrow? Really?
-
M, we're supposed to have snow on Easter. And it's going to be in the teens tonight temp wise. This sucks!
-
Yep,
1-3" for us too ! It will melt quick temps are warmer now.
Easter ! When's Easter ?

Next Sunday, a week from tomorrow.
